O.P.I. Matte Top Coat Review

O.P.I. Matte Top Coat

OPI Matte Top Coat
Hey! So I’m back with another review today. Now…I love nail colors! I have been using nail paints for so many years, as opposed to experimenting with makeup which was fairly recent, and I absolutely love trying out a different color, or style of nail paint. A long time ago (more than a year) I had seen a picture of matte nails, and I fell in love with it and searched how to do that, and landed on this – the OPI matte top coat which when applied to ANY nail color, turns it matte! It seemed really edgy, and different and I wanted it as soon as I got hold of it, but unfortunately it was not available here, so when I went to the US, I got it asap. Needless to say I was so in love with it since so long, it couldn’t have failed me! ☺

Description
Commands a second look while at the same time being elegantly understated. This Matte Top Coat has an allure that makes the urge to touch it irresistible and can almost be felt just by looking at it, velvety smooth.

Ingredients
Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Hydrated Silica, Trimethyl Pentanyl Diisobutyrate, Adipic acid, Isopropyl alcohol, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Citric Acid.
(mentioned on the underside)

Price
I bought it for $9 (0.5 fl. Oz. or 15ml) at Ulta.

Packaging
It is the classic OPI packaging, and the cap has ‘Matte Top Coat’ written all over to identify it easily among the others which I find very convenient. The liquid itself is somewhat translucent, unlike other top coats which are completely transparent.

My take on O.P.I. Matte Top Coat

As I already said, I was in love with it way before getting it so I just had to get it when I saw it. It’s one of the best nail products I’ve ever used. You can apply it to any nail color, and it looks so velvety, classy and elegant. I personally prefer nail colors which have a cream finish, and not shimmer or glitter finish, and so I haven’t exactly tried out how the matte top coat would look on them. But for cream finish, it looks great on every color. I have tried it with black, red and fuchsia and I loved every one of them. Here I am wearing it on the fuchsia (Sorry for the slight chipping, I wash my hands too much). You may see in the last post, I was wearing it in black too.

As for usage, first apply a base coat, then one or two coats of nail paint, and I usually wait for about two to three minutes for it to partially dry and then apply the top coat, which dries it very quickly, and while drying you can see it changing to a matte look. That’s one of the funnest parts of doing this! As a top coat it functions great, it wears easily for a week, but starts chipping at the nail tips (as I said, I wash my hands way too much).

Overall, it’s an awesome product for an edgy and different look.

PROS of O.P.I. Matte Top Coat

• A very unique product which gives you the chance for a great new look!
• The consistency is not too thick, unlike other variants in this category.
• A lot of quantity for the price
• Functions as a good top and makes the nail chip resistant.
• Dries nail paint very quickly
• Has no smell so people with sensitive noses can use it easily

CONS of O.P.I. Matte Top Coat

• I can’t think of any!

In short, I am in love with this and will try it out on every color! 😀

    1. You should totally check it out! It’s amazing!! And it looks great on red! *happy dance* *happydance*
      Thanks! 🙂 🙂

  1. Love the effect! I just saw a michelle phan video, you can also get this effect by applying nail paint and putting you nails over steam for the next 10-20 seconds!
But this is a way easier alternative! 😀
