OPI Spotlight on Glitter – Blush Hour Review

OPI Spotlight on Glitter – Blush Hour

Hi all,

I am back with a review of another glitter!! Yes, I am all prepared to infect you ladies with my glitter fever, or may be, you are all seriously infected already. I am the latent case. Anyway, all the same. Today I am reviewing a shade called Blush Hour from OPI’s Spotlight on Glitter collection which is a set of 6 glitters.

OPI Spotlight onGlitter - Blush Hour

Product claim: OPI presents a selection of glitters that are extraordinarily bright, unapologetically colorful, and undeniably fun. That’s a lot of excitement to put in a bottle! New particle shapes and sizes make these glitters out-of-the ordinary. So versatile, you can wear them on their own or layer them over regular lacquer shades to add depth and turn the sparkle up a notch.

All OPI Nail Lacquers contain No DBP, Toluene, & are Formaldehyde Free.

My experience with OPI Spotlight on Glitter – Blush Hour:

This is a mixture of large and small hexagonal glitters in a sheer pink base. The glitters are coloured pink, fuchsia, purple and silver. Altogether it has a gorgeous effect. You could stare at the bottle all day. The glitter concentration is like…..crazy!!! Complete coverage in two light coats!

Now the application. The sheer pink base is not at all thick. So you can layer it without the fear of making a goopy mess. The drying time is super fast. You paint one nail and by the time you do next, the first one is completely dry.

The problem is that when it dries it turns matte and slightly opaque. If you look at it closely, you will see that it almost has a textured effect. So what is the result? Textured base + chunky glitter = super gritty finish. It is so gritty that it gets caught up in clothing, hair etc.

Can you see that tiny white sand like thing all over it? It is the dried base.

Now that is something I despise. I don’t like my nails to be gritty or bumpy. So what do you do? Simple, you apply the thickest possible layer of top coat and wait for it to dry. I checked after 5 min and guess what? Our old gritty had drunk up the top coat like some thirsty traveler. The grittiness had somewhat reduced but it was still bumpy. I applied a second thick top coat layer and it was ok, not very glossy though. In short, you need to be patient if you want this beauty to behave.

Staying power is good. You can wear it alone or layer it over other shades.

Pros of OPI Spotlight on Glitter – Blush Hour:

Beautiful colour
Great glitter pay off
Thin base
Fast drying
Good staying power

Cons of OPI Spotlight on Glitter – Blush Hour:

Gritty finish
Takes many layers of top coat to smooth out
Availability in India

It is such a gorgeous glitter that you don’t mind if it drinks up half the bottle of your top coat each time. Well, it’s worth the trouble you see.

    1. thankoo so much princy *happydance* *happydance* . I know this would luk fabulous over black nail paint but the matte base tends dull the shine of any base color used.

  1. Seriously removing them is such a pain *specs* but for the gorgeous color and glitter finish it has I want to try it *drool* , it is looking absolutely stunning on your nails, love it *nails* *nails*

    1. Thank you dhara *thankyou* Yes removing them is a real headache. But I always use pvc glue as base coat and I peel the whole thing off. It is very easy and doesn’t affect the staying power.
