My Experience with The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution:

This Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution comes in a clear plastic bottle. You get 8 ml of toner in the bottle. The bottle comes with a twisted top pointed cap. The bottle is big and not travel friendly. It has a watery consistency.

The Ordinary’s glycolic acid toner contains 7% glycolic acid and has a pH in the range of 3.5-3.7. Glycolic acid is a type of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) – a group of exfoliates derived from sugar cane. Glycolic acid exfoliates the skin and gives a good level of hydration. It also increases collagen production. This toner has 7% glycolic acid which causes a slight irritation on the skin. It really stings when you apply it on acne scars, so please do a patch test before you go forward with this toner. Also, people with highly sensitive skin should be vary about this toner. It has a good pH balance of 3.5 to 3.7 making the glycolic acid in the toner very effective. You need to keep it in mind that a higher level of pH level neutralizes the effectiveness of glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is most effective when the pH range is in between 3.0 to 4.0. Also, this product is formulated with amino acids, aloe vera, ginseng, and Tasmanian pepperberry.

The brand suggests that this toner needs to be used at night and not more than once a day. It is an exfoliating toner, so you can use this product instead of facial scrub. I always use this toner at night after I double cleanse my face and towel dry it. Then, I take this toner on a cotton pad and apply it on face. The irritating sensation the skin stays for few seconds. I follow this up with emulsion, oil and moisturiser.

This glycolic toner has even-ed out my skin texture and made it clearer. Since glycolic acid makes your skin sensitive to sun, using a sunscreen is a must.

Many have compared this toner to the Pixi Glow Toner. I have never used the Pixi toner but many of the ingredients look the same. However, Pixi Glow Tonic contain 5% glycolic acid with a pH of 4.1, so in comparison, The Ordinary Glycolic Toner is better than Pixi glow tonic. Also, the price for Pixi glow tonic is $15 whereas this one is priced at just $8 for 8 ml, which is a good deal.

Overall, I am really enjoying using The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid Toner.

Pros of The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution:

  • Evens out skin tone.
  • Improved the texture of my skin.
  • Affordable.
  • Only a small amount of product is required each time.
  • Exfoliates skin.

Cons of The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution:

  • I could feel a slight irritation for a few seconds.
