Philips HP8310 Hair Straightener Review

My Take on Philips HP8310 Hair Straightener:

I have been contemplating buying a straightener for the longest time. I have heard a lot about excessive heat being bad for hair, but having curly/wavy hair, I have always dreamt of getting straight hair. Eventually, I bought one straightener from Phillips with model number HP8310.

I chose this straightener because of three reasons, one because it had negative ions that would provide the extra conditioning, second was that the maximum heat was only up to 210, third was that it was reasonably priced and from the brand Phillips which makes other electronic gadgets as well.

I didn’t get any heat/thermal protectant along with this straightener.

The first time that I had used this straightner, I shampooed and conditioned my hair. This tool cannot be used on wet hair, so you HAVE TO ensure that your hair is thoroughly dry. After my hair had dried completely, I partitioned and removed tangles from my hair.

Phillips Hair Straightener

When you switch on the straightener, there is a green light that switches on and it automatically switches off after a certain time. I watched a lot of youtube videos before I started using it and I ran the straightener patiently through each section. After the process, I had lovely straight hair and I was supremely happy with the straightener. I did not expect poker straight hair and did not get any, but the kind of straightening it did on my hair, was to my satisfaction.

In this picture, you can see, one section of hair which is still wavy and the other section of hair which is straightened out.

I would also like to mention here that the negative ions do the conditioning part remarkably well. It removes frizz and smoothes all fly-aways. However, without conditioner, it does not perform that well.

The most important part and it’s a big “yey” for me, I can add curls (loose and bouncy ones) to my hair. I don’t need any separate curling tong or styler. Generally, what I do is, I straighten my hair and in the end, try to add loose bouncy curls and its perfect.

Phillips Hair Straightener

The only hitch for me is that I cannot straighten the hair at the back as effectively and it remains somewhat wavy, but I don’t really mind that. Also, I haven’t still bought a heat protectant yet, so I just use this once a week, but someone who would do straightening daily, heat protectant is a must.

Fully straightened out hair

Phillips Hair Straightener

Overall, I just love this straightener. I should really “pat my back” for buying an awesome product, just love it to bits.

Summing up the pros and cons of Phillips Hair straighener:

Pros of Philips HP8310 Hair Straightener:

  • A multipurpose straightener with which you can straighten as well as add curls to your hair (though not tight curls).
  • Sleek and attractive design.
  • Comes from the trusted brand “Phillips.”
  • Price is quite reasonable.
  • Ceramic plates that distribute heat evenly.
  • Straightens hair effectively.
  • Negative ions smooths out frizzy hair and fly-aways.
  • Heat is only up to 210 degrees, which is sufficient to straighten out wavy to curly hair.
  • 2-year warranty.

Cons of Philips HP8310 Hair Straightener:

  • Cannot be used on wet hair (I don’t think that is a con, I would never try to straighten wet hair).
  • Would not be so effective to straighten out tight curls or coarse hair.

No other cons, I just love this straightener!!!!.

Do I Recommend Philips HP8310 Hair Straightener?

Yes to those girls with wavy hair.

  1. Hi Jomol,

Looks like a very promising product :waytogo: ….. Im currently using a cheaper product from the brand Remington..it does not give the same results :waaa: .. But your hair looks so healthy and shiny :mirror: … Would love to try this …..Philips is beyond my budget though 😥 😥 ….. It would cost around atleat $50 here

  2. Supriya….believe me, my hair is very frizzy, but after I use this straightener, it does seem healthy. Try if you can get this model with ions, I think it might come a litter cheaper :teddy: :teddy: :teddy: :teddy: :teddy: :teddy: :teddy: :teddy:

        1. No idea shivani….but don’t try anything drastic now….if you haven’t used anything before, don’t try now, just use remedies you know…..don’t use topical creams now :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi:

  3. Jomol…..My hair is very wavy too……Did you straighten it yourself or did someone help you…I find it very difficult to do it myself…(some sections wont get straightened :waaa: )…

It is surprising because here in Australia Philips is more expensive than Remington…at least the products I ave checked out so far ….

But if I’m going to get this result (Like your hair :waytogo: ) Im definitely going to try this

    1. Supriya….I had to do it alone…….I just clipped all hair together and then sections by sections I straightened it out….even then, the hair at the back couldn’t be straightened 🙁 you are right……some hair won’t get straightened at the back at all and you know with straightened hair, the side braided hair looks amazing…..you should try it tooo :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom:

    1. Supriya….it does not work like that…..you have to use the same email id here that you have used in gravataar, then it will work, you don’t need to have a blog of your own O:) O:) O:) O:) O:)

          1. Shabaash Nupuriz……tumne usse aur bhi confoos kar diya….I am proud of you   😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

            1. 1. Ife……I think this ion thingy is working for me, I have pretty frizzy hair and I can’t use any hair oil or serum, so I use loreal shampoo and conditioner …..just these two and the straightener now

  21. wow my sis in law wanted something like this as she has curly hair,m sure ‘ll be super excited to hear about this product…nice review jomol, everything is explained very clearly:)
did u get any booklet of how to style ur hair kind, with this?

    1. Srishi….thankooooooooo :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: I didn’t get any booklet on styling, got jsut the 2-year warranty card. I watched youtube videos a lot and they were quite helpful in understanding how to work with the straightener :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: and we have a post here on IMBB that explains how to straighten hair :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  22. you have beautiful hair, Jomol. So nice to see something of you hehe Also your review rocks, I have always wanted to know about this straightener, i do have a query. i have frizzies just at my forehead region. and curls too. but rest of my hair is straight and good. i have remington right now. when i use it my frizz behaves for two hours max. how is it with the philips, will it get rid of frizzy hair for atleast more time?

    1. Praseena…I am sure this thing reduces frizz because usually I have lot of flyaways, but this tends to control that, and I can just clip my hair at the top and leave the rest open and my hair behaves well…..thankoo for liking my review Praseena :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

    1. I know…I wanted to get Braun but couldn’t afford it, its 4000 to 5000….it would have been too much for something I was uncertain about….this one is pretty good though

  23. Wow…Jomol, your hair looks so healthy and shiny. And the straightener seems to work very well.
I have frizzy wavy hair. Had used lot of heat styling stuff last year – starighteners, dryers and they damaged my hair.
    Am off them now.

However looking at your hair am tempted to try this one

  24. Dee….I have to get heat protectant now urgently because I am tempted to try it every other day, I know heat will damage hair eventually, so treading over it slowly :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails

    1. Yes Jomol. Heat protectant is a must.
And you are true, heat will eventually damage the hair, so grab some good heat protectant soon.
Tresemme range worked fine for me.

  25. m vry skeptic regarding using hairr straightners… :chewnails: :chewnails: :chewnails: :chewnails: :chewnails: :chewnails: :chewnails: wese hi i dnt hav good hair… :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥

one class mate f mine uses them n her hair looks super damaged… it’s really scary for me… :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

  26. Keirti, a great deal of care needs to be taken while using such styling products, but regular use can severely damage hair, I am bit careful now :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly:

  27. Hi Jomol!!!!!!!!!!!! I was away for the week n reading all posts now :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  29. I have this one too! its super awesome..
Jomol : do yu have the narrow one or the broad one?.. i bought the broad one and it doesnt help me curl my hair :struggle:

  30. Ragini….I got the sleek one…since its a bit rounded, I can curl my hair too……but the curls are not too tight….they are bouncy….but I love that way…you also try doing the same…… :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo:

  32. Hi Jomol,

Just realised you were a keralite…..is that the secret of your thick and healthy hair? Well, almost all the keralites who I have met have lovely hair., its very think regardless of whether its straight or wavy… :pigtail: :pigtail: :pigtail: :pigtail: :pigtail: :pigtail: Even here in Australia …So I was thinking may be the genetics or the seafood rich in protein or is it the coconut oil?

Can you give us some advice/ or an article about the secrets :announce:

  33. he he….Supriya….yesh I am a keralite…..usually all keralites have thick and long hair, I think that’s because of the climate, the herbal oils we use, curry pata, and FISHHHHHH….but I do not have very thick hair, used to have, but the water where we stay is quite heavy with salts and is not at all good for the hair, and I did have damaged hair but now I am taking supplements, and its back on track. Also, I cannot keep any nourishing hair oil or serum overnight in my hair as it gives me headache, so the only thing I can do is take good protein and iron rich food O:) O:) O:) waishe thanks Supriya….you made my day yesterday, and you are making my day today too…love you :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi:

  34. :thanks:

:puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi: to you too…

I was not too fond of fish, but now im trying to include more seafood atleast for the sake of my hair…Also Im trying to regularly oil my hair with parachute coconut oil…( These I learnt from my Keralite neighbours)…

The water here has too much chlorine I’m having a hair loss problem :methinks:

Also Im planning to visit Kerala this year, for the very first time  Hope I can have “karimeen” onboard the houseboat 😉

  35. You know about Karimeen :woot: :woot: :woot: wow :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: karimeen is one of my favourites too Supriya…..I love seafood a lot, in fact, I do not eat fish that has not come from the sea…weird, but true :shying: :shying: :shying: :shying: You are really lucky to get seafood…….       and you are visiting Kerala…..in which month are you going……… :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

  36. Have booked the tickets for September…..wanted to avoid April/May because it will be very hot (Again my neighbours advised me :nono: )…. couldnt get enough leave till September, so there is a long wait…. we are planning to book a package wich will include munnar, thekkady ,kovalam and backwaters as well……(Hopefully it will be our second honeymoon :shying: )

We can get frozen karimeen in Indian shops here, imported from kerala…I have tried karimeen with puttu in a Kerala restaurant called Malabar hut

  37. Supriya…………you know already so much about Kerala……..I feel like a pseudo-keralite before you :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: puttu and kadala is my favourite :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: Have you tasted the malabar biryani        Supriya…..you have given me a major hunger pang now :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: and yes, September is the best time to visit Kerala, the monsoons and rains are there and yes, enjoy your honeymoon :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :pompom: :preen: :preen: :preen: :preen: :preen:

  38. Havent tasted the buriyani…..I have had appam though…. soo yum…..
We get so many food products from Kerala exported here….

I have been my research for the holidays , that’s how I know about all the places there….have seen nice ads on you-tube by Kerala tourism board….

  40. Thank you, Jomol, thank you!!! I have been considering getting a hair straightener for a while now. My hair is wavy and very frizzy and ruins every look no matter how well I style my outfit. This is an answer to my prayers!! :thanks: :thanks: :happydance:

  41. Fab if your hair is very frizzy…..do condition your hair first and then wait for the second day after you have washed your hair. By the second day, your hair will kind of settle down and on that day, you use this straighten….but I am so happy I could help you :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

  42. hey same pinch jomol and neha i have this too!!! my dad got me from Qatar.. :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

  43. i have the wide one…i love it too much to be away from it.i take it with me on any small trip…best investment till date

  44. Hi jomol i have this one.. it was a gift from someone very spl :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

it straghtens well.. i have tried it on curly and wavy hair.. it works well.. thing is it heats up too fast n heats up too high.. so i keep on switching it off n only use it after a min.. coz if i use immediately u can see how ur hair has been damaged a little.. well i never used heat defense so i cannot blame it on the straightener.. i never got poker striaght hair too unless i used a method to do it n it stayed till i wash my ahir next time lik for 3-4 days.. gr88888 product from philips…

  45. Hi, i ws thinkin of buying a straigtner and ws lookin for reviews that’s how i got here.. got inspired by the review that i went ahead and ordered it from infibeam.. i just got the prdct nd i hav a cpl of questions..

  46. hi, i am new here. i need one suggestion. i have thick and wavy hair. so, will you recommend this straightener to me? and how long does the straightening stay?

    thanks.. 😉
and by the way i just love love love your hair… ! :inlove:

  47. This doesn’t make the hair poker straight, does it? Mine leaves the ends curled out, no matter how hard i try. 🙁 Also, the outer body gets heated pretty quick.

  48. I bought this straightener after reading your review.Your review is superb.Great job!
I have very long and very thick hair. Its straight but very frizzy that`s why I needed a flat iron.I bought this one.But I am not satisfied with this product. After straightening I get split hair in the middle. It doesn`t give me sleek hair,as I always wanted.

  49. Hey jamol

  50. Nice review. I just got the product but I find it too hot. I mean 210 degrees is quite lot for my hair, it seems. Is it safe to use this high temperature for hair?
Also can you suggest a good heat protectant.
I wish this had heat settings so that I could use it better.
