Philips Satinelle Epilator Hp6400 Review

Philips Epilator Satinelle Hp6400

Hi All! This is supposed to be my first article on IMBB and I am really proud to be a part of this blog.  I had never tried any gadget for hair removal until now because I couldn’t afford it before, but hair removal creams never worked well on my rough hair texture and I was never very comfortable doing shaving because ingrown hairs within two days of shaving used to freak me out.

Philips Epilator Satinelle Hp6400

I googled to find out the best solution for hair removal and found out that the most appropriate ones were electronic shavers/epilators.  I had already used an electronic shaver from the local market and was not too happy using it.

So, I thought of getting an epilator, which would be cheaper in price, but from a reputed brand.  I bought Phillips Epilator Satinelle HP6400 at an offer price of Rs. 1000 (the market price is around Rs. 2000).

When I received the package, I was excited to see a handy gadget with a stylish look.  The product HP6400 has no attachments like the Braun epilator which comes with 2-5 attachments, but when I browsed the net, I found out that the other models HP6401 and 02 have one attachment each and I had got HP6400, which has no underarm epilator attachment.  I was a bit disappointed, but since I got this at a very low price, I was okay with it.

Phillips Epilator

I tested the epilator on my leg.  The pain was somewhat bearable on my leg, but when I used the epilator on my thighs, it was kind of a funny feeling.

It works with rotating disc with speed level of 1 and 2.  The epilator removes the hair from its root, but if you move the epilator really fast, the hair breaks up rather than getting uprooted, so it is better to refer to the user manual before using such a gadget.

Epilator

Thankfully, I didn’t get any skin bumps or redness and it works perfectly on me and I am really happy about this method of hair removal rather than waxing, shaving, or using hair removal creams.

If you haven’t used such a hair removal gadget before, I suggest you go for this model, but if you really need something which would work for underarms, then please go for HP6401/HP402 (I don’t know whether these are available through online shopping websites because I could only see HP6400).  This epilator is really worth the price and I am loving it!!

Pros of Philips Satinelle Epilator Hp6400:

  • Compact and stylish, lightweight.
  • Less pain compared to waxing.
  • If you use it in the correct way following the user manual instructions, you are bound to remain hair free for more than 3 to 4 weeks (based upon your body hair growth).
  • Affordable price range of Rs. 1500-2500.
  • Available online through various online shopping websites.
  • Long cord wire of 250 cm, which is helpful in using the gadget conveniently.
  • Easy to clean the epilator attachment.

Cons of Philips Satinelle Epilator Hp6400:

  • Since it is an electrical gadget, have to be careful while using it and follow the user manual instructions.
  • This specific model is specifically for removing hair on legs and non-sensitive parts of the body and cannot be used for underarm or bikni areas, but Phillips HP6401 and 02 have sensitive caps and can be used in sensitive areas.
  • Some people may develop bumps and redness of the skin after epilation.
  • Can only be used when the skin is dry and cannot be used when the skin is wet.

  1. Hey Kavitha,

I have the same epilator too..and I think it has worked decently with me..but it hurts na..when it pulls the hair!! :tremble: I used to get redness from it after every use..But I’ve learnt to cope with it now..the trick is to apply a nice body lotion 15 minutes before you start epilating…this will make your skin moistened and won’t give any rashes the way it comes on dry to super dry skin!! 🙂

And welcome to IMBB!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

      1. hain?? what oil?? I just apply very light amount of body lotion..just to hydrate the skin..so that it doesn’t hurt when I run this epilator..I didn’t understand what you wrote!! :(( please explain!!

        1. And I apply the lotion 15-20 minutes before..so that it gets all absorbed to give soft and supple skin..warna toh this hurts badly on my super dry body skin. 😐

        2. Kimi…..rati is telling ki in waxing…..skin should be free of oil and lotion because then hair won’t come out fully…..that way she is asking ji…ki..will it remove the hair completely O:) O:) O:) O:) O:)

          1. Mere liye toh aaraam se hataa deta hai…..and moreover my skin remains dry only on the outside…just that it gets more hydrated…20 minutes is more than enough for a body lotion to get absorbed…

            1. oh…..waise…usually na….parlour people tell us na ke dont apply any body lotion or butter before waxing because then the hair would not come out fully…that’s what Rati meant I think…….thanks for the info Cali…..my parlour aunty tho refuses to wax me if i go with body butter 🙁 🙁 :(( :(( :(( :(( :((

    1. Kimi wouldnt applying a body lotion make it difficult for epilator to remove the hairs? ?:)
In parlors they usually say not to apply any body creams or lotions before coming for waxing so jus thinking ?:)

      1. Arey baba..I apply it 20 minutes before..and somehow that has worked fine with me..I never felt any oilyness or greasiness..and hair comes off easily through epilator causing minimal redness…I didn’t say I apply body lotion and immediately start running the epilator!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

            1. Kimi woh baat nahin hai….actually, some skins like mine retain the body lotion ka and body butter ka moisture and then waxing becomes tough even for that day….you are lucky that it gets absorbed…mera nahin hota aur parlour aunty body lotion detect kar ke…muje baga deti hai 🙁 :(( :(( :(( :((

              1. he he..actually na..I use very light moisturizer for this..not heavy body butter types…and ponds body lotion is best for that..its super light….get absorbed quickly…otherwise..whenever I used to epilate with my (super) dry skin, I’d get white skin flakes coming off and horrible redness……with this technique….like applying lotion some 15 -20 minutes before..I dont get any bumps..or flakes and skin redness also is quite less… 🙂

Waxing toh never suited me jomol..I always used to get red red rashes…no matter where I get it done!! :((

                1. actually waxing se, i used to get small clots, blue blue types which turned, but i had no other way, slowly i got usd to it… :mirror: :mirror: :mirror: :mirror: :mirror:

                  1. blooo dots? me used to get ugly cluster of red red dots everywhere…that used to itch so badly..I used to end up getting a wound scratching them…I used to get waxing done when I was learning swimming…but ended up getting wounds everywhere that looked really horrible!!..the reason why I ended up getting electric shavers and then epilators!! 😐

                    1. haan….actually blood clot ho jaata tha na kimi….first tho it would remain red…then it would start getting blue blue as if someone had beaten me up….but later, it got okay…I think the people who did it were not properly trained or something….I changed the parlour and it got okay O:)

          1. mujhe bhi samajh aagayi kimi. :puchhi: :puchhi: :puchhi: Actually waxing mein they apply the wax na which becomes slippery n doesn’t come out well if there is any kind of lotion/moisturizer on the skin. ismein toh it just picks n pulls the hair. So no need to worry abt the lotion part. i also used to do the same thing.  :haanji:

        1. i think parlour wale waxing k time lotion k liye isliye manaa krte hain..coz fir wax ache se stich nh ihogi body pe n ek barrier rhega skin n wax k bees. bt epilator k case mein v dnt hv 2 apply anything 2 remove hair….tbhi toh its fine if u apply lotion 🙂

    2. yes dear!!Exactly knowing the tricks works well!!i really hate hair removing stuff before, now epilator is become my fav toy :teddy: now!!i am really loving!! and thanks for ur welcoming :thanks:

  2. Nice review Kavitha, I had an epilator long time back, a philips satinelle ,but not sure if this was model…I hated epilators after that..It gave me so much redness, and hurt so much, I thought I’d rather go unwaxed …lol… :jog: :jog:

        1. i thot the eeeks said it all.. she is quite sweet actually and a lot of the house work gets done without any tension but a Mil is a Mil you know..a little bit of stress..so much so that I even picked up a booked called ‘I am not stressed’ by Deanne Panday.. :hihi: :hihi:

            1. booked called ‘I am not stressed’ by Deanne Panday. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: me want me want tht book too :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa:

              1. kaafi accha hai book. wasnt aware that acidity was also caused due to stress (for the most part atleast)..i keep picking up books like these and never read. if my husband is around when i am picking them up he’ll be literally after my life to keep it back.

  3. i recently purchase the braun epilator cum shaver. i am pretty happy with it. I really dnt find time to schedule appointments at parlour and get waxing done. 🙁 It kinda hurts bt i found the pain bearable. and redness i feel can be combatted with a toner. 😀 I am soo happyyyy…. :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: all i have to take care of is regular exfoliation or the chances of getting ingrown hair is quite high.

    1. Same here Rati..I got the Braun epilator so many years back and till now it’s working fine…it’s really awesome. Only thing na..if I wait too long between the epilating sessions..it will hurt a bit 😀 😀

  4. Morning..I have super sensitive skin which turns red after even threadin or waxin..so epilators n razors are a big no no for me..but this looks so handy..nice review

  5. Hm…seems pretty good…but I’d rather get the ones with attachments. :haanji:
But I mst admit…this epilating business seems…Rather painful. :tremble:

  6. me always scar from this type of products ……my skin is sensitive even get red bump after waxing :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

  7. Heheheee Kimi…actually naaaa we are all so conditioned by waxing and parlour instructions not to apply moisturizer/lotion of any kind…even though I understood what you are telling I am still thinking thinking about it. I mean it makes sense..obviously it will get absorbed and all..but I don’t know why..I always ensure my skin is dry and no moisturizer 😐 😐 I should try your method some time..it’s just I have to get it into my head somehow 😀 😀

I have the Braun epilator…love it..

    1. You know what Rads..sometimes…when my hair doesn’t come off easily na..I rub a bit of talc..that makes it smoother… 😀
I’ve had such horrible experiences with waxing everywhere na..I am just too scared of it now…can’t dare getting it done anymore!! :tremble:

I have both Braun and Philips!! 😛 and I have electric shaver too from Philips only..that was by first buy for hair removal when I was searching for some alternatives for waxing..me louuu both..and that Braun eyebrow and sensitive areas wala trimmer is really amazing…though it stops working on its own sometimes for unknown reasons…I have to give it jhatkaas like the way we give to a pen when it stops working and then its motors starts rotating..that is the only annoying thing I’ve found in it.

      1. Haaan I want to get it too..I remember you telling it’s good na. I should buy that…and I didn’t get my Braun here..the voltage doesn’t match or something and last minute I left half the things there. You know packing repacking adjusting for weight. We left half the things here and there…like we would have got some gadget and not got the cable kinds :(( Anyway so no braun with me now…want to get one now 😐

        1. U know what Rads..me got these handy eyebrow shavers this time..reallllllllly amazing..they are shaped the way that you simply have to rotate them below your eyebrows and the eyebrows get shaped..I am really amazed at it… 😀

            1. I’ll send you the photee after going home…they look so cuute..I saw it in one youtube video actually..and then I saw it in mall..and immediately bought it!! he he..

              1. Hee okayyy…whenever you have time you send me! I am like one chimp…but thankfully it’s winter now so I can stay this way. Eyebrows tho I am doing on my own..and I am quite okay with it since my usual parlour lady used to make them like straight lines…is slightly better now..but this thing you are telling about would be awesome help…

      2. Hey Kimi!

u seem an expert here on epilators O:) can u plz suggest a gud epilator for my dry skin n which cn remove hair from sensitive areas too? :shying:

i feel so lazy to go to parlours 4 waxing :daayan:

  8. after reading above comments from all… i am confused that whether i should go for epilator or not..

@rati – after using epilator is it that hair grows faster and more, im worried

    1. Priyanka, I don’t feel it grows any faster. Some people feel it grows back thicker or more prominent kinds…but I have not had that experience. It’s been the same condition for me all the time 😛

      1. Same here Priyanka..My hair growth has been normal..in fact sometimes I feel it has been reduced now..donno..I think this has something to do with the environment and hormones…I never had any fast or coarse hair growth problem…and I’ve been using shavers and epilators since 8-9 years now!! :))

        1. :thanks: kimi..thanks for sharing ur experience, now im gonna try this..as i bored of visiting salons for this. something @home is the best option.

by the way kimi last month my reception was ther and i browsed for prebridal on imbb ans saw ur pics after marraige it was awesome liked it..

  9. 😯 :yikes: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble:
any kind of waxing is okay for me
    i wud wax myself
but epilate :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble:
    but thnks a lot

    as such u get red bumps thru waxing 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥

  10. i m also havin philips satinelle but wth attachments, even an exfoliatin glove n shaving head is included! My most fav att is the ice cool pad ,which is 2 soothe ur skin after epilation! It costed a lot(around 3500 bucks) but i m loving it! :yahoo:

  11. help help gals…does epilators work like waxing? like this thing removes the hair from its root or just kinda gives a close shave..wana know that.. :teddy: 😉

      1. some wat similar to shaving if u doesnt use in 90 degrees!!i hardly see very few ingrown hairs after 10days,i really have a fast bady hair growth dear!!i feel kinda control now!!!:) :stars:

  12. I think i need to try this… looks good
kimi… plz tel me the model number of braun eyebrow trimmer, i want that for upper lips

  13. I used one of these in my teenage years and it hurt like hell. Every two weeks or so I would be like chalo ab try karke dekhte hain…..and as soon as it touched and plucked some hair i would cry with pain.
Now Im wondering why did it hurt me so much when so many of you girls have used it and found the pain bearable :tremble: :tremble:
Waxing is much MUCH better than this

P.s- I get red bumps with waxing, no matter from where i get it done. any way to stop that?

  17. Hey girls  …. 3rd Feb was my marriage anniversary  and i had to select a gift for me :present: … I searched online for some shavers and got surprised to know that electric tweezers do exist :yahoo: … I had been using waxing and threading since last 7-8 yrs & was tired of all these :headbang: …
When I got to know about epilators, I had to buy one no matter how much it pains :waaa: … I read reviews about braun and philips and decided to buy Philips 6400. I ordered it on flipkart in 1700rs. The product reached me today morning 2 days after my wedding anniversary :worship: ..

Initially I was scared of using it but when i tried it on hands, it was almost painless for me :yahoo: … So i went on using it on legs as well… Though I have a low pain threshold but i was so used to threading on my legs that the epilator didnt hurt a bit…

It takes almost same time as waxing… No allergies yet…I usually get bumps after 5-6 days of waxing… Let’s see what happens after using this…

Anyways I am very very happy with my epilator… :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  18. 😀 I am writing this post just one week after the above post of mine…. I want to tell you that i tried it on under arms too  …. Earlier i used to shave my underarms because i had waxed them 2-3 times previously but couldn’t tolerate the pain of removing all hair in one go… But the epilator is such an ease :teddy: ; though it rather pained… I am happy again :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
PS: Yes i got bumps too but they go away once the hair sprouts out of the skin… :happydance:

  19. I also bought the same model Hp 6400 and it says here I shouldn’t use it on any part of my body except legs. Is this true? or is it safe to use it on my underarms? Thanks
