Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette Review

Hello lovely ladies,

As much as we all love collecting makeup, we always look for good tools aka brushes for applying makeup. I am very finicky about cleaning my brushes since I break out at the drop of a hat and dirty brushes are no good for sensitive skin, or for any skin for that matter. Though I always have my MAC Brush Cleanser handy, deep cleaning brushes is a must. And we all know cleaning, especially washing the brushes, is so tiresome and is a chore.
Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette

For a long time, I have contemplated buying the brush cleaning glove or mat from Sigma, but the price tag always deterred me. So, when Real Techniques launched a similar, cheaper, but a little bit smaller version, I grabbed it straight away. So, let us move onto the review.

Product Description:
Cleans brushes 55% better versus hand-cleaning with water.  Great makeup application starts with a clean brush. The brush cleansing palette helps sweep away makeup, oil, and impurities from bristles to give you truer, more consistent color application.

  • Performance-grade silicone: lightweight and ergonomically designed to fit comfortably over your hand.
  • Exclusive multi-textured surfaces: designed to gently work between the bristles for enhanced deep cleansing.

Step 1: Slip hand into the palette and squeeze a drop of our brush cleansing gel onto the tool. Add warm water to the palette.
Step 2: Swirl brush into the gel and water across the various surfaces until the brush is clean. Rinse bristles thoroughly, being careful to not fully immerse the base of the bristles. Squeeze out the excess water.
Step 3: Rest your brushes across the surface of the tool to dry or use the panoramic case from our sets to dry brushes upside down.

My Experience with Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette:

Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette comes in the typical plastic case packaging, which is common for all Real Techniques products. The palette is made of silicone, is pretty sturdy and flexible too. It is made like a small tray and is bright pink in color. The palette though looks big, is just the size of the palm. It has a handle at the back through which you can slip your hand in and hold the palette. It just looks like a soap dish with raised texture. 😉

The palette has raised textures of 3 different types, which as Sam and Nic describe, are for three different types of brushes – the big dots are for brushes which are bigger in size; middle pattern for medium-sized ones, and small dots for small-sized brushes. But there is no rule and one can move the brushes on any texture while cleaning. The textured surface is not rough or scratchy and I feel it is gentle yet tough on the brushes.

I dip my brushes in water, pour a drop of baby shampoo on the palette and work my way through, moving the brush on different surfaces and it cleans my brushes and removes all the product remnants and stains from them. I have always found cleaning my foundation brushes the toughest, especially my Sigma 3DHD kabuki brush. I feel that the product settles deep inside the bristles and considering how thick and dense the brush is, removing all the product is tough when you clean it using just your hands. Cleaning by using this palette cleans even the most dense brush and removes all the debris.

After cleaning, it can also be used as a stand to air dry the brushes, but I have way too many brushes than the palette can hold. 😉
How to clean makeup brushes

I do not own the Sigma glove, so I cannot compare the two. Overall, I quite like this palette and it makes my brush cleansing routine a little bit simpler and quicker. I would recommend it, if you are looking for a brush cleansing palette, but do not want to spend extra bucks on the Sigma glove.
