My Experience with Remington Ceramic Straight 230 S3500 Hair Straightener:

My Experience with Remington Ceramic Straight 230 S3500 Hair Straightener:

I recently invested in this new straightener because the Conair one that I have had for many years was much too bulky and the plates very wide. I have very long and thick hair, but it is not too curly or wavy, which is why I don’t feel the need to straighten it too often. I invested in this flat iron because I fancied curling my hair with it! I have been reading lately how it is so much easier and quicker to curl your hair with a flat iron as opposed to a curling iron. I thought this would be a good bet for the same because the plates are pretty narrow and fairly long. Alas, I still haven’t mastered the technique of curling my hair with it! I’m just about beginning to get the hang of it.

However, I will review this product and tell you how it fares as a straightener (which is exactly what it is!). I have used it at about 180 degrees, which is towards the lower side on the temperature wheel. One of the advantages of this product is that it has variable temperature settings. This way, you can suit the needs of your hair and prevent exposing it to too much heat if you don’t need it.

The ceramic plates are well-designed, smooth and easy to use. If you brush your hair out well, this flat iron does not snag. However, if you hold it in one spot for too long, it is going to create kinks in your hair.

After I straighten my hair with this, I find that my hair looks considerably smoother and healthier. It also adds a little bit of gloss and texture to the hair. I suppose that’s the sign of a good flat iron. A poor quality one could easily end up making my hair look dull and damaged.

The plate size is pretty good. The plates are long and narrow and make the process of straightening much quicker and more efficient. You can easily work on the crown if you need to and it’s easy to work on the hair at the back with this. I think it’s a pretty good design.

Apart from it being a good straightener, I like its other features like auto shut off after an hour, key-lock (which makes it easy to store and travel with) and the heat-resistant pouch that it comes with. I also like the fact that it has a long and swivel cord. It is also multi-voltage, which again makes it good for travel. You won’t need an adaptor to plug in this device. It is also very lightweight—again a great thing if you intend to travel with this.

It does have floating plates, but I don’t see any great advantage of that, certainly not with my hair. Perhaps it works better for different kinds of hair. So, if you see a flat iron that is more expensive simply because of the floating plates, then you might want to reconsider. All the other features of this product are very good.

Overall, I am quite happy with my purchase. I am sure that flat irons only get better with the price that you pay for them. But for this price, I think I’m happy with what I have got.
