Early morning rains, a hot cup of tea, a nice lipstick and IMBB. What else can one need for a happy start to the day .Yes , that is exactly how I started my day today and I’m super happy and refreshed. So for a change today, I gave my usual bold shades a break and thought of reviewing a more easy and subdued shade that is, Revlon Velvet Touch Lipstick in the shade Matte Brownie. So let’s hop on to the review.

My Experience with Revlon #50 Matte Brownie Velvet Touch Lipstick:

The packaging consists of a red plastic case with a golden tube inside which holds the bullet. There golden tube forms the golden band on the outside which has the brand logo printed on it. The top of the cap is see through and helps in locating the shades. I find the packaging quite flimsy but nevertheless functional. The lippie click locks and can easily be carried around.

Coming to the shade I would like to call it a brick brown with slight orange undertones which helps in making the shade look quite alive and not- so- drab on my NC 42 skin tone. In the bullet it might look too Gothic but on the lips it transforms into a pretty brown apt for regular wear. This is typically a go-to-work shade and can be worn easily on any day of the week with any sort of make up without a single thought. This again is a shade that can look good on all complexions. I wear it to work mostly as I hate the typical nudes which can look washed out. This adds just the right amount of color to the face without looking over the top.

In terms of texture this lipstick is more of a creamy matte. It feels quite moisturizing on the lips and glides effortlessly. It doesn’t dry out the lips with time and neither does it emphasize the fine lines. I have always worn it without any prior prepping of the lips and have never missed the lip balm. Another point worth mentioning is that the bullet is quite sturdy in spite of being a creamy lippie and I have never experienced any melting in the humid climate of Kolkata and neither does it feel gooey.

Now, coming to the pigmentation, I would say that the lippie is decently pigmented. With one swipe most of the lip pigmentation is covered and with two swipes we can achieve a full blown coverage. The lipstick doesn’t have a distinct fragrance which is a plus as a lot of people are sensitive to scented products.

The lipstick has an average staying power like most creamy mattes do which is 2- 3 hours and disappears completely after a full meal. It however survives light snacks and drinks but transfers quite easily onto the glasses which is really annoying.

Summing up the pros and cons,

Pros of Revlon #50 Matte Brownie Velvet Touch Lipstick:

• The shade looks good on all complexions
• Can be paired with any sort of makeup without much thought
• Quite moisturizing on the lips.
• No fragrance
• Bullet is quite sturdy and not prone to breakage

Cons of Revlon #50 Matte Brownie Velvet Touch Lipstick:

• Staying power could have been better
• Flimsy packaging
• Transfers onto cups and glasses

Overall, this is quite a decent and functional lippie for daily wear and would be a great pick for office goers and for girls who prefer subdued shades in general as it looks good on all complexions and doesn’t look washed out at all.
