Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick Gold Dipped Rose Review

Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick Gold Dipped Rose

Hi IMBB Gang, I continue with my saga of stuff I collected from online stores. This one, thankfully is a “wow, I am lucky to find this” type of purchase and I wish I made more of such nice purchases.

Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick Gold Dipped Rose

I am reviewing Revlon Moon Drops lipstick in shade Gold Dipped Rose.

This is what Revlon says about Moon Drops Lipstick:
A Revlon classic! Condition your lips with creamy Moon Drops Lipstick. Helps keep your lips soft and supple, with beautiful, flattering color. 24 shades in both cremes and frosts. EXPERT TIPS:Begin by applying Moon Drops™ Lip Conditioner to prime the lip. Apply then the slant tip bullet directly to lips for beautiful, full-coverage color.

Ingredients:

I couldn’t find the ingredient list either on Revlon website or over the lipstick cover. This is taken from a listing for the product in Amazon.

Price:
It is around $8.99 (from drugstore) and I got this from ebay for 400 INR for 4.2 gms.

Packaging:
Okay, this has to be the cheapest-looking packaging Revlon has. I read that Moon Drops is one of their oldest lines of lipsticks with people describing how they used to use this 15-20 years back. I don’t think they have changed that packaging much. It’s a cheap, green plastic packaging with a transparent top to see the color, but that is very useless as the color you see is usually not how the color comes out. Other than that, this is a sturdy packaging.

Fragrance:
This lipstick has got a strong fragrance that lasts for 2-3 minutes after application. I am kind of used to it and don’t mind it much, but for all sensitive noses out there, this might be a concern. However, I have read a review where they compared the scent to the scent of Chanel lipsticks, but since I don’t have Chanel, I have no clue!

My Experience with Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick Gold Dipped Rose:

This is a very frosted color, which comes across as a mildly pinkish peach with golden shimmers. The shimmers are not at all over the top.  I am not sure if the name gold-dipped-rose is very apt for this, as this is more of a peachy shade than anything rose. The pinkish undertones of this lipstick will be visible on very non-pigmented lips. On my lips which are much pigmented, the peachy tone is clearer. This is a night-wear lipstick in my opinion, as the color and the shimmer is more evident then.  I used this for a day time look as the inner fill color when I tried the new Ombré lips style (I love this style).

This goes mildly sheer on my lips with a single swipe, but leaves a beautiful shimmery peach color and is quite buildable. In my opinion, this is a shade that suits wheatish and darker skin toned beauties much better than the fair ones.  I love how smooth it feels on the lips and also is moisturizing enough to skip a lip balm beneath. This is a very summer-time shade and also suited for an outing or beach party. Staying power is average with the lipstick staying up to 4-5 hours with no eating, but then Revlon doesn’t claim long-lasting effect with this one.

Swatch

In my opinion, this truly lives up to its claim, which is providing a great color with enough moisture on lips. I love this lipstick and I am planning to try other shades as well.  I have not seen this in any Revlon counters and since I’m just a 3-year-old-makeup-convert, I have no idea whether Revlon has ever introduced this here. However ladies, if you get a chance to get this one through your relatives staying abroad, please do try.

The swatch below is taken after a single swipe of the lipstick. Notice that it leaves enough color behind.

Pros of Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick Gold Dipped Rose:

  • Lovely color, frosted peach shade with mildly pinkish undertones and beautiful shimmers that are not at all over the top.
  • Nicely moisturizing and doesn’t settle in fine lines.
  • I usually don’t find frosted shades that suit darker skin tones, but this one truly flatters a tanned or darker skin tone.
  • Provides enough color on a single swipe and is very buildable.
  • Decent quantity and quality for the price.

Cons of Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick Gold Dipped Rose:

  • Contains parabens.
  • Availability is an issue as I am not sure if this is available in India.
  • Strong fragrance that may hurt tender noses.
  • Cheap-looking package.
  • Average staying power, though I am not sure if I should list it as a con since they don’t anyways claim long-lasting effect.

Rating:
4 out of 5 (0.5 deducted for parabens and 0.5 deducted for cheap garish looking package).

Will I Buy Again?

Of course! This is a beauty and I definitely would love to try other nice shades.
