Rimmel 001 Black Scandaleyes Gel Eye Liner Review

We know how amazingly the gel liners work, right? Just a few swipes and the gel liner stays on the eyelids forever. I am crazy for the Maybelline gel liner, but I have already used 5-6 jars of it and was looking for something new. That is when I came across this gel liner from Rimmel. Let’s see how the most common shade, black, worked for me.

My Experience with Rimmel 001 Black Scandaleyes Gel Eye Liner:

Packaging: The gel liner comes in a very good looking monochrome box which looks very quirky and is made up of laminated cardboard. Inside, sits the little tub of the gel liner along with a brush. The gel liner tub is made up of plastic with a black cap over it. It is very small and handy and so is the brush. The brush is super sleek, just like a stick, and the bristles are soft enough to glide on the eyes. I picked up the shade “Black” because I am not much into the coloured ones.

Consistency, shade and feel on the eyes: The shade “black” is a dull black colour in the initial swipe. It has to be swiped a lot of times to intensify the colour. I swipe it some 6-7 times to build up the colour and that is when you get the shade that is on my eyes in the swatch. This process is very tedious and irritates me to the core. The main thing that you expect from a gel liner is a creamy consistency which glides smoothly on the eyes but this liner cannot deliver that kind of a consistency. It is super hard and dry. I have to rub the brush 4-5 times into the gel liner to pick up some of the pigment. The overall application causes a lot of tugging and pulling. Although it does not irritate my eyes, a little dry gel liner gets stuck to my lashes which I hate.

Finish and staying power: The gel liner, when built up after a lot of efforts, looks very nice and intense. It has a strong black colour which makes the eyes pop. It has a matte finish which looks very classy. It does not smudge on its own but, if you rub it with your fingers, then it is sure to smudge. It stays put for good 6-7 hours or even more and you have to remove it with a good eye makeup remover to get rid of the panda eyes.

Overall: Even though this liner looks good, it’s still a disappointment. You need to put in a lot of efforts to apply it.

Pros of Rimmel 001 Black Scandaleyes Gel Eye Liner:

• The brush is really good and perfect for a thin/thick lines
• The colour is intense black, when built up
• Does not irritate the eyes
• Stays for good 6-7 hours on the lids and 2-3 hours on the waterline
• Affordable

Cons of Rimmel 001 Black Scandaleyes Gel Eye Liner:

• The consistency of the gel liner is too hard
• A lot of tugging and pulling has to be done during application
• Consumes a lot of time to apply
• Very thick and dry
• The colour has to be built up

Would I Repurchase/Recommend Rimmel 001 Black Scandaleyes Gel Eye Liner?
No, I wouldn’t! It is too hard for application and there are much better gel liners available in the market. So, you can skip this one.
Conclusion: I wish Rimmel works on the consistency and then this liner would become perfect.
