Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer 001 Review

Hi Lovelies,

This is my very first makeup review on IMBB.  Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer review is the very first (and only) primer I have purchased.  I use the MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation and because of my oily-combination skin, I felt my makeup just disappears after some time.  Additionally, my eyeshadow also doesn’t stay for a long time.  As I am quite a newbie to makeup, I asked friends, googled and realised that I needed to use a primer so that my makeup stays put for a longer time.  I wanted to buy a primer from a drugstore brand as I do not wear makeup all the time (I am more of a tinted moisturiser, lipstick, :preen: eyeliner person :pigtail: ), only for occasions/parties etc, and I did not want to spend too much on a primer.

Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer 001 Review

I visited Priceline store and checked out primers from all brands and at last, I settled for this primer from Rimmel London. I had only purchased nail polishes from Rimmel London before, so I was not too sure of their makeup products. There were two variants available and I selected 001 after trying the tester.

Product Description:

Skin primer, smoothes skin and minimises pores. Use on its own or before applying foundation for a longer lasting effect.

Price:

$13.95 AUD

My Experience with Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer 001:

According to my understanding, a primer should soften skin, minimise pores, extend the life of foundation and cover marks and blemishes; however, my main aim was to find a product which would make my foundation last longer. When I tried on the 001 shade of this primer, I was quite surprised at first. This is because the product was quite orange in colour as in peachy orange. My first thought was how could this be a primer, as I expected a primer to be either colourless or white; however, once I tried a bit on my cheeks and rubbed in, it blended perfectly well with my skin. I am NC 43 in MAC foundations (however might not suit skin tones much lighter or darker than mine).

After bringing it home and using it, I feel that this product spreads easily and only a small quantity is enough. After applying, it does not leave a whitish cast nor does it alter my skin colour.  It blends well into my skin tone and I actually feel I can preserve my golden/yellow undertone with this primer.  This itself is a miracle for me as I feel it is very difficult to find foundations in Australia which match NC42-NC44 complexions with yellow/golden undertones.

For this reason, I can only use MAC. After applying this primer all over my face and neck, I could see a visible difference. My skin actually looked radiant, smoother and had a good finish. I cannot really comment on minimisation of pores as I do not have large pores. Also, I do not have many blemishes, so I cannot comment about the depth of coverage; however, it does cover the small and random blemishes/marks I get on my skin occasionally.

I actually felt that I did not need a foundation on top of it as this primer itself gave my skin a good finish; however, this might have been sufficient for me as I am a person who uses tinted moisturiser for everyday wear and foundation only when I “dress up.”

On many occasions, I just used this primer and then topped with lip gloss, eyeliner and blush, totally skipped the foundation. However, when I do apply foundation on top of this, I feel my foundation stays for longer. If used on eyelids, my eyeshadow stays longer as well. The makeup stays for a bit longer, maybe a couple of hours more, but I expected it to last much longer. However, at the price of $13.95, this primer does do a good job. As I haven’t tried any other primer, I cannot make a comparison.

Pros of Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer 001:

  • Quite reasonably priced.
  • Matches my skin tone perfectly well.
  • Makes skin radiant and smooth.
  • Prepares skin well for makeup.
  • Works well by itself if you are after a more natural/daytime look.

Cons of Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer 001:

  • Won’t suit all skin tones.  Primers from most other brands are colourless, so they adapt well to all skin tones.
  • Might not be easily available in India.

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5

Will I Repurchase Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer 001?

Definitely yes, I feel this product works well for the price. Also, this primer never gave me breakouts and did not clog my pores. I will definitely repurchase this.

  4. Thanks Rati,

yes they do make lovely lipsticks and nail polishes as well. Rimmel is bit ceaper than L’oreal, revlon and even maybelline…

  5. For anyone who is a bit nervous about the color of this primer, try the Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro 002. The Pro version comes out of the tube white but goes on clear. I absolutely love the Pro version on my combination skin and tried it after a YouTube make-up guru said she felt it was better than Smashbox Photo Finish Lite!
