Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Base and Top Coat Review

Hi Everyone,

Nice to be writing again after a gap.  My daughter was down with a viral and she demanded a lot of attention, in fact all the attention and by the time she slept, I was too drained to write or click pics and as she is getting better, I too have time now. Today’s review would feature Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Base and Top Coat which I got online very recently.

My Take on Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Base and Top Coat:

I have been searching for a good base coat as I had noticed yellowness in the nails after using dark shades of polish. I was keen on buying the OPI base and top coat, but I was not as lucky, as all the websites said “SOLD OUT!!!” I came across a couple of brands selling top coats and base coats, since I had used Sally Hansen products previously, I was more convinced to buy this. This product does 2 jobs in one go, it can be used as a top coat as well as a base coat too. I have not so strong nails and the product says it is a fortifying base and top coat and especially designed for peeling and chipping manicures, I was excited to try it.  This comes in a box pack, just as a lot of other Sally Hansen products and the liquid inside is an odourless golden fluid, it almost looks like refined sunflower oil 😛 The bottle is a unique design as the front is curved and the back is flat, the brush is pretty good and covers the entire nail in 3 strokes without brush marks.

Now, coming to the product, it looks and feels like any other base and top coat polish, but as the box says that it infuses nails with vitamins and moisturises to stop brittle nails and as a top coat it keeps the manicure fresh with UV protection. I applied one coat before applying 2 coats of polish and it dries pretty fast – a very important quality of a base coat, otherwise you would have to wait forever to apply the polish. If you like clean manicure, you could use it just on its own because it gives a very glossy and healthy look to the nails.  It works great as a base coat but when I applied it after 2 coats of polish, it took a lot of time to dry and was a bit soft even after a few good hours and I was a bit disappointed with it, but the other day, I gave my polish a generous amount of time (in the world of today having a lot time is a luxury) and it did not have the bad effect, so I came to the conclusion that during my previous manicure, I might not have given the polish enough time to dry and on top of that, I applied the top coat.

Finally, I have come to the conclusion that this is overall a good product and has multiple uses, isn’t that great? I would be using this on a regular basis if I don’t feel clumsy.

  • Good amount of product.

IMBB Rating:

    1. ya jyoti i agree its expensive..but i found no other better ones..I got one revlon top coat too but that one is so crappy i m unable to use that ,this one can be a good option as it eliminates the need to buy 2 separate products *happydance* *haan ji*

  1. The fact that it does a 2 in one job, I think it is brilliant. I use the one by inglot but that is the basic nail hardener and I dont use a top coat since I tend to change my nail paint quite often. This sounds good. I’d keep this one in mind for sure. 🙂

    1. ya Rati that saves time and money too.. do try it its good *nails* I would love to try the one by inglot *drool* as I have been having weak and peeling nails *cry* ,but there are no inglot stores in Hyderabad yet *cry*

  2. wow this sounds great *happy dance* *happy dance* i will want to try this for sure after i am done with all my clear polishes *hihi* 2 in 1 thing is great *happy dance* *happy dance*
