Sephora Collection 8 HR Mattifying Compact Foundation Review

Skin type: Oily-sensitive, acne prone
Skin tone: Fair/light with yellow-neutral undertones

Hello friends!

Hope all of you are enjoying your days. I am also packing my stuff for our week long trip to Los Angeles. Yay! My husband is banging his head looking at the luggage while I am in dilemma regarding which makeup products and shades should I pack. Considering I come from IMBB family, it is natural to have a bag full of cosmetics even if we move out for a day or two. 😛 My little gal is also busy in deciding which footwear and hand bag will match her dresses for 5 days. 😀 Anyway, let’s talk about my next purchase which seems to be a decent pick, but sadly I am not counting it in for my trip. Please read more to know about Sephora Collection 8 Hr Mattifying Compact Foundation in the shade Vanilla!

Product Description:
What it is:
An oil-free compact foundation that mattifies skin completely for up to eight hours and ensures a shine-free finish all day long.

What it does:
This oil-free compact foundation instantly mattifies with results that last for up to eight hours, revealing a natural, flawless complexion with zero shine all day long. Along with containing micronized pigments that blend into the skin, this wonder foundation reduces the appearance of pores, evens out the complexion, and hides imperfections for a perfectly smooth complexion. Bonus: it comes packaged in an elegant compact with an exclusive design that includes a wide mirror for touch-ups throughout the day as well as an ergonomic half moon-shaped sponge to apply compact foundation precisely and flawlessly.

My Experience with Sephora Collection 8 HR Mattifying Compact Foundation:

The pressed powder foundation comes in a smart black packaging with a magnetic closure cap along with a full size mirror. Its crescent shaped sponge applicator looks classy, but I am not a fan of such sponges. Overall, I find it pretty travel friendly. Sephora Collection released this pressed foundation in some 20 shades and I see that Sephora marked the shades in “R” & “D” brackets rather than being specific in description.

back

However a little digging in helped me to understand the shade better as in all shades marked R will work for rosy-cool undertones and D is meant for doree (gold) aka yellow-warm undertones. So relying on their French-inspired nomenclatures, I picked up the shade “Vanilla (D22)” considering my skin tone. It is certainly a close to perfect match of my skin tone and I am sure this pressed foundation has every possible shade for many skin tones.

ingredients

However I am not overtly impressed by this concept. I have tried many decent pressed powder foundations from both low and high-end brands. Hence, I can certainly say that I am not impressed by the price and quality this one delivers; sorry Sephora, not this time! I like the finely milled, soft texture of this mattifying powder, but it is an irony that it fails to control oil even for 8 hours. Oh yes, I see that wearing it alone over well primed face gives me decent 5-6 hours of oil-free face time but after that my skin becomes slightly greasy and needs touch-ups. Without primer, it does not work for even 3-4 hours.

texture

I never use that rubbery crescent sponge it comes with because that sponge feels useless; it neither helps in getting the desired coverage nor it feels comfortable on my skin. I am happy that it (the powder) does not dry out my skin and it has quite a forgiving formula to let go of slightly dryness and uneven texture. The powder does have a tendency to cling on to dry patches. I noticed that it provides sheer to medium coverage on my problematic skin, which makes it promising enough.

packaging

But then, it does not help much with the redness on my face (caused due to acne & acne scars) and mild pigmentation; I still need a color correcting concealer. I am a no-makeup person and don’t mind showing up my problematic skin. But when we use particular product we expect it to fulfill certain terms, right? And, that’s where this product disappoints you a bit. I would like to mention that the formula of this foundation is very mild as it has never broken me out or aggravated my acne prone, sensitive skin type. It won’t emphasize fine lines or ageing skin further.

I just feel it will best suit normal, combination skin types better, considering the decent oil control property, fine milled soft powdered texture and the soft matte finish it delivers on my skin. I might give it a skip as I have better options in my kit currently.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Sephora Collection 8 HR Mattifying Compact Foundation:

• A finely milled, soft pressed powder foundation
• Suitable for even problematic skin
• Feels feather-light on skin
• Helps in blurring my pores and uneven skin texture
• Soaks up excess oil and dullness for decent number of hours
• Doesn’t accentuate or aggravate acne prone, sensitive skin
• Doesn’t feel drying on skin
• Doesn’t emphasize fine lines or pores
• Makes skin feel soft and shine free
• Smart, sleek and travel friendly packaging

Cons of Sephora Collection 8 HR Mattifying Compact Foundation:

• The rubber sponge seems useless to me
• Doesn’t provide much coverage
• Can’t control oil for upto 8 hours
• Might cling to dry patches
• Pricey

I feel it is a pretty decent powder foundation, nothing unique or fancy about it though. It can be a hit or a miss, and for me it is a miss.
