Shaving Tips for Men and Women

Shaving for long has been associated with men grooming. In order to look presentable one has to shave regularly or atleast tidy up the beard style. But, regular act of shaving can dry your skin and lead to itchiness or skin irritation, be it on a man’s face or woman’s arms or legs.

Shaving is more than mere running of razor on your skin. You must follow proper shaving techniques and post-shaving skin care in order to avoid razor burns and bumps. Mentioned below are some do’s and don’ts of shaving:

Shaving tips and tricks:

• Never ever apply shaving products on a dry face if you want to avoid razor burns or shaving rashes. Always moisten your skin with lukewarm water and make sure that your beard is thoroughly wet before starting off.

• When it is your body that you want to shave then showering in hot water or soaking in a hot tub for three to five minutes is a good idea. Doing so will soften hair and open up the hair follicles, making the hair easier to remove and reducing the risk of ingrown hairs.

• Use a shaving cream that has a high concentration of lubricants or has moisturizing ingredients like glycerine or aloe vera in it. The ideal scenario is to leave the shaving cream on your face for at least a minute before you begin cutting, so that your hair are as soft and wet as possible.

• Shave in straight lines and with gentle pressure, rinse the razor often during shaving and move the razor in the direction of hair growth. If you go in the opposite direction, you’ll push the hair follicles straight into your skin and make your bumps worse.

• Clean your face or body with water and make sure no shaving cream residue remains.

• Pat your skin dry and use a lightweight, noncomedogenic product (that won’t clog your pores) on your face. For your body you should opt for a thick fragrance-free moisturizer to sooth and moisturize your skin. Products that contain fragrance might irritate your skin and make it more itchy.

• After you are done with shaving, sterilize your blades with rubbing alcohol to prevent infection. Dull or dirty blades cause skin irritation so make a point to change your razor blades frequently.

• Do not overshave if you want to avoid skin irritations.

Hope these tips will help you get a smoother skin without any irritated shaving bumps.

  1. Very helpful post Era, as i tend to shave mostly. Anything to minimize the skin darkening though? Also could anyone tell me if using an epilator worth it? Should i invest in one? I have been confused about it.
