Shiseido Elixir Superieur Kit Review

Shiseido Elixir Superieur Kit Review

By Ramya Iyer

Hello there gorgeous people!

Shiseido is the most famous Japanese brand and has a cult following all over the world. So, when I found this trial kit at my favourite local drugstore, I was giddy with excitement to try it out, especially since full size of each of these products retail for ¥5000 (close to Rs. 2,500). All the products are type II (shittori meaning for dry skin) and I have combination skin (I need type I, that is sappari), but in winters, I am dry as a raisin, so I thought I would try it out.

Shiseido Elixir Superieur Kit

This kit contains: a cleansing foam II, lifting moisture lotion II, lifting moisture emulsion II, enriched serum and day care revolution SPF 30 with PA+++.  I have been using this kit religiously for the past few weeks now, and I love it. I can honestly say I am seeing the results.

Let’s check out each product in detail:

Cleansing Foam II:

Shiseido cleansing foam II

The cleansing foam is a creamy white product, of which you need just a pearl-sized amount to work into a lather and cleanse the face. Here, foaming cleanser net is very commonly found in drugstores, so you can rub a small amount of the product on the net and work it into a foam (which is what a lot of women do here in Japan). Foam is said to be better and more effective at removing dirt and gunk.  Generally, in the winter, after cleansing, my face feels dry and uncomfortable and I rush to go put something moisturising on my face. This cleanser does not leave my skin dry after use. Maybe I am finally giving my skin some good care! 🙂

Lifting Moisture Lotion II:

The Japanese tend to call their toners as lotion. So, this product is watery and is the first product I layer on after cleansing. This is more of a preparatory step I believe. I gently pat the product on the skin instead of rubbing it in.

Lifting Moisture Emulsion II:

Lifting Moisture Emulsion II

The emulsion is more of a translucent creamy product, sort of what a traditional lotion looks like. This is the main moisturizer and it does its job really well. My skin seems to have markedly improved, as in no more dry patches even when I have nothing on my face. Again, I try patting the product instead of rubbing it in, so it sinks in better.

Enriched Serum:

The enriched serum is thinner than an average serum, but very hydrating. I tend to use this product on my under-eye area and cheeks because they need more moisture. This product is just for extra moisture and hydration than the emulsion. I use the serum in the  under-eye area twice a day.

Day Care Revolution SPF 30 with PA+++:

This sunscreen is a little too moisturizing for me, but is the highest SPF with PA+++ protection. This sunscreen does not leave a white cast and layers wonderfully underneath makeup.  Lot of brands have sunscreen here and they are usually of the highest SPF of 50 because women here are absolutely paranoid (I do not use that word lightly) of the sun. They know UV rays are detrimental to the skin (they literally damage your skin’s DNA) and how it speeds up aging and causes spots and might lead to skin cancer. They wear big floppy hats and carry around UV umbrellas even when it is not sunny. Please wear sunscreen all throughout the year, even when it is cloudy. This is the number one thing you can do to prevent aging. Also, this should be the most important feature of an anti-aging cream (Wayne Goss also says this in his videos). So, if yours does not have it, toss it out and get a new one that does or get a broad-spectrum sunscreen of the highest number (peak efficiency being SPF 50) separately.

Coming back on track, all of these products work and layer beautifully, especially in the harsh winters.  The packaging is also very neat, telling you the order in which you can use the products, sunscreen being the last. I will definitely try out more products of the type I now. Lovely Shiseido never disappoints! 🙂

Price:

¥1,400 (here in Japan).

Pros of Shiseido Elixir Superieur Kit:

  • Very moisturising.
  • Works very well under makeup.
  • Layers well.
  • Cleansing foam is not drying.
  • Sunscreen does not leave a white cast and has highest SPF.
  • Skin stays moisturized from the moment of application till the end of the day – no dry patches at all!

Cons of Shiseido Elixir Superieur Kit:

  • This kit is made for people with dry skin alone (there is no similar trial kit for oily skin).
  • Sunscreen too moisturising (did not work well on my T zone area) for my combination skin.

Would I Repurchase Shiseido Elixir Superieur Kit?

Absolutely, it’s well worth the money. All except the sunscreen.

    1. Yes Arpita I feel even though it is only a trial kit, the quantity provided is generous to say the least. I have been using it for a month now and I still have quite a bit left!
