Shiseido Perfecting Stick Concealer – 55 Review

Hi guys! How are you all doing? I have been on the hunt for my perfect concealer for a long time and was looking to buy a new one because I wanted a backup to use in case I finished my TheBalm Time Balm concealer (my Holy Grail concealer for now). So when I found the Shiseido counter and saw that they had a stick concealer, I asked the MUA to try a few shades from the darker end of the spectrum, and decided the buy the darkest shade they had. That being said, now that I have it, I would have liked to buy a shade darker than what I have now.

My Experience with Shiseido Perfecting Stick Concealer – 55:

Shade: My shade is in number 55, the darkest of the range. There are only 4 shades available, but can’t really fault them since they cater to Japanese women only and their skin shades usually don’t go outside the range Shiseido have put out. It is more peachy toned rather than yellow toned, so you have to layer some sort of yellow toned product on top, like foundation or powder. Even though this is peachy toned, I find it is not enough to be corrective for my hyper pigmentation, acne scars or under eye dark circles.

Packaging: This product gets a full point from me for packaging. It is stick type, so it is very travel friendly. You can just pop in your bag and can use it anywhere. There is 5 grams of product in the stick, so it will last you a good amount of time.

Coverage: This concealer has good coverage; I would say it is medium to medium plus coverage if used sparingly. It is buildable and you can easily take it to full coverage. This is probably what surprised me the most, since Japanese colour cosmetics are known for their sheer to light coverage.

Consistency/how it applies: One of the best things about this concealer is that it is very creamy and so easy to blend but blends better when done with fingers. I do notice a difference when I use a brush as opposed to my finger; probably the heat from the tip of the finger helps it to spread out better and more evenly.

Longevity: I would say using a primer underneath will be highly beneficial, otherwise it very quickly disappears into nothingness even on my cheeks, where I have normal skin (for reference, I have combination skin). It definitely needs a good moisturiser or eye cream (for under eye area) underneath otherwise clings to dry patches and unexfoliated skin. I would say normal skin ladies will enjoy this the most, because it is unkind to oily patches (breaks down very quickly) and dry skin (clings to dry patches). If you want to make it work for oily skin, then make sure to use a primer underneath and powder on top. If you want to make it work for dry skin, use the best moisturiser you have underneath.

Finish: The finish is demi-matte to matte. I usually top it off with powder to ensure the finish is matte, because I do not prefer a demi-matte finish.
