Shiseido Senka Perfect Gel Makeup Remover Review

To say this review has been long overdue is an understatement. I have had this and bought multiple tubes of it over the course of 2 years now and have been wanting to write about it ever since I started here on IMBB. What can I say, procrastination got the best of me. I am sure you guys can relate 😛 So let’s get into it.

Packaging: This comes in a big blue squeeze tube that has a cap and is easy to dispense. Nothing all that exciting or different about the packaging. It is minimalistic and functional. There is 160 g of product in the tube. Made in Vietnam.

¥950 Claims (roughly translated).

Product Details:
Removes dirt in pores. Can be used in 2 ways: to wipe off or rinse. Skin will be smooth after use. Can be used on wet hands and face also. It will retain moisture in the skin. Free of artificial colour.

My Thoughts on Shiseido Senka Perfect Gel Makeup Remover:

This product belongs to the same range as the Shiseido Whip facial foaming cleanser.

Consistency: The consistency of this is thin and feels like an emulsion. It is very easy to spread. It just spreads out like a lotion would and actually feels like a lightweight moisturiser on the skin. With the thin consistency it has, I first expected it to really scrub the product out, but it doesn’t take a lot of effort to remove makeup, but I will say, it will take a minimum of 2 swipes (or even more, depending on the product) to remove makeup. So, it isn’t overly great in the efficiency department, but I am OK with this. I wouldn’t recommend it for removing eye makeup though, because it can get inside the eye and irritate it. Even if you start out with a small amount, it always gets into the eyes.

I used this as my primary makeup remover for about a year and it works great for that. These days, instead of using another product for eye makeup, I just prefer using cleansing oils. I also use it to remove swatches and remove mascara or eyeshadow that I inevitably smudge around the eye area. It works wonderfully for that. How long does one bottle last – for removing face makeup, you wouldn’t need a whole lot of product. I would say one bottle lasts a good 5-6 months for me because I don’t use a large quantity every day. Even at the end of the 6 months, the consistency and efficiency remains absolutely the same, which I like.

Feel on the skin: It does not dry up the skin while it removes makeup. I am not saying it moisturises the area but it sure doesn’t take away the moisture along with makeup, that is, it does not strip my skin of moisture. So my skin feels good after using this product. It does not irritate the skin for me. This is the main reason why I keep repurchasing this product. I understand this is because this is a water-based product rather than oil based.

Pros of Shiseido Senka Perfect Gel Makeup Remover:

• Feels very comfortable on the skin – doesn’t irritate the skin.
• Takes off stubborn makeup.
• Easy to spread – thin consistency.
• Inexpensive.
• Free of artificial color.

Cons of Shiseido Senka Perfect Gel Makeup Remover:

• Can get into the eye and irritate it – so do not recommend for removing eye makeup.
• Takes at least 2 swipes to take off makeup.
