SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Review

I had picked up a few SK-II products in March for IMBB, and I am so thankful that I got to try products from this luxurious brand because of Rati and Sanjeevji 🙂 I am so excited about these products and I am gonna review them one by one through this week.  Today, I would start with the much celebrated skin care product from this brand – SK-II Facial Treatment Essence.  So, here goes the review 🙂

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

A refreshing essence that moisturizes the skin and supports skin cell renewal.

My Take on SK-II Facial Treatment Essence:

It is popularly advised that if you have to try just one product from SK-II, it should be the treatment essence because it creates what you say “first impression is the best impression” sort of thing, and I couldn’t agree more. SK-II treatment essence was the first product that I got to try and it raised a lot of expectations from the brand; however, not all products from this brand met those expectations, more on that in the later posts.  Also, this treatment essence is essential even if you have picked up other products from SK-II in your skin care routine.

treatment essence

SK-II treatment essence is rich in amino acids, vitamins, minerals and I feel it’s a rich face tonic that nourishes the facial skin thoroughly.  The main ingredient in all SK-II products is pitera, which is derived naturally from a fermentation process of rice. There’s a really interesting story behind the discovery of pitera – the main ingredient in SK-II products.  In a sake rice brewery in Japan, scientists noted how the hands of the workers were wrinkle free and smooth compared to their faces. That’s how pitera was zeroed in as the enzyme that was working the magic on the workers.

facial serum

Talking about the packaging, the essence comes in a glass bottle with 75 ml of colorless liquid in it.  I am really scared that one day it will slip off my hands and break into pieces, hence I handle it very carefully.

The essence is of liquid-y consistency which flows freely without any viscosity.  The essence does not have any discernible fragrance, just a bit of medicinal smell, and I am sure it’s free of any added color.

SK-II

Since it has a water-like consistency, it is extremely lightweight and does not feel heavy on the skin.  Also, brownie points for the essence not feeling even 1% sticky on the skin.  I pour out a little quantity into my palm and then pat it on to thoroughly cleansed skin.  I feel application on cotton ball would lead to wastage of this precious liquid 😛

essence for face

Since the essence does not feel sticky or greasy on the skin, you can layer makeup on top.  To tell you the truth, it moisturizes my oily skin so well (in summers) that I skip moisturizer when I am using this essence.  I feel the best time to use this treatment essence is at night, on clean skin. It works overnight and aids in skin renewal process and you would wake up with smooth and soft skin.  Now, the best part is that it’s completely safe to be used around the eye area and on top of the lids – it’s free of chemicals, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and GMOs, and that’s what gives me the confidence to use them over the eyes too 🙂

soft skin

Now, talking about the effectiveness, I could feel the difference within a few days.  For the initial few days, I wanted to see how the essence works alone without help from any other SK-II product. Hold your breath, it works amazingly.  With regular use, you can see the difference in the skin’s texture. Even while washing the face, I can feel how smooth my skin is. It is smooth and soft to touch and feels refreshed, brighter, and with a glow that I rarely see on my face 🙂

SK-II facial essence

A sincere advice from me, if you want to begin your journey with SK-II, you gotta try the essence and then move on to other products, that’s how impressed I am!
