Rose Water- Dabur Gulabari, Fab India

Rose WaterI remember my naani use to pick fresh roses from her garden to make rose water for her daughters. She used to say,” pat rose water on your face and your face will bloom like a rose. ” ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks to my naani, I have been using rose water since aeons now. Although that’s a different thing that her home made rose water was replaced by Dabur Gulabari in my beauty regimen. Now it’s like I share a love story with Dabur’s Gulabari. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have aย  dry to normal skin and not a sensitive one too but the artificial toners have never suited my facial skin. I tried a lot of toners but all of them gave me nothing more than dry patches near my mouth and cheeks. Then I got to know that rose water is a NATURAL TONER. It doesn’t matter whether you have dry, oily, sensitive, normal or combination skin, rose water takes care of all.

For oily skin here is a trick

Rose water: 2 teaspoon

Mint Water- 1 teaspoon

Mix both the liquids and apply the mixture either with cotton ball or finger tips on your face and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water.ย  This will help you maintain the excessive oil that you especially on your T Zone.

For Dry Skin:

Glycerin: 1 tea spoon

Rose Water- 2 tea spoon

Sandalwood Powder- 1 tea spoon

Mix the ingredients and apply it on your face for 15 -20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water. Apply moisturiser after patting your face dry. Easy Peasy!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

For Dark Circles:

Dip cotton balls in rose water and put it on dark circles for 15 -20 minutes. Do it regularly. This is a very slow process but it works!

Personally I like to try different brands for rose water. Here ‘s my review

Dabur Gulabari Gulab Jal

Dabur Gulabari Gulab Jal-I have seen the product transforming from the little glass bottle with aluminum cover to this chic plastic bottle with convenient packaging. Earlier the ingredient list used to be just water and Rooh Gulab ,Rose Oil. This time when I bought my new bottles, I noticed the change in ingredients.

Here they are:

  1. Aqua
  2. Fragrance (Rooh Gulab)
  3. Rose Oil
  4. Propylene Glycol -A cosmetic form of mineral oil found in automatic brake and hydraulic fluid and industrial antifreeze. In the skin and hair, propylene glycol works as a humescent, which causes retention of moisture content of skin or cosmetic products by preventing the escape of moisture or water. The Material Safety Data Sheet warns users to avoid skin contact with propylene glycol as this strong skin irritant can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage. Can also cause eye irritation, skin irritation, skin drying, defatting.
  5. Methyl Paraben – An antifungal and antibacterial agent used as a preservative in pharmaceutical preparations.
  6. Proplyl Paraben– An antifungal agent used as a preservative in pharmaceuticals.
  7. Bronopol– a preservative used in milk samples intended for butter fat estimation; the reject milk fed to calves causes erosive abomasitis and death due to peritonitis.

I have been using this new Gulabari for around 15 days now and I have faced no problem, so far. It doesn’t dry my skin, keeps my pores in place and freshens me up whenever I use it.ย  In fact, I have felt no change from the previous Gulabari to this one. Price- Rs 30 for 120 ml bottle. The only inconvenience is that the bottle has no spray so I also end up wasting the product every time I have to use it. But what was I expecting in Rs 30? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dabur Gulabari Face Freshner: I wanted to try this new facial freshener. It is a pink colour liquid and has some gazillion ingredients in it that makes it so pink. Personally I like my rose water to be clear and white and not some ghastly pink coloured liquid. Anyways I bought it mostly because of packaging and brand value. It was a total DISAPPOINTMENT. I didn’t mind paying Rs 65 for a facial freshener thinking that it would be an upgraded version of the normal Gulab jal.
Every timeย  I put it it felt as if I was applying some creamy stuff on my face.

It itched.

It gave the red patches on my face.

Hated it. Loathed it. Returned it.

Fab India Rose Facial Water:

100%ย  plant based soothing water is collected during the stem distillation of flowers when extracting essential oils.

Price: Rs 175
Fab India Rose Water

Ingredients: Distillate of natural rose petals.

I can claim that this is by far the best rose water I have used. It is light. It is soothing. It is freshening. It is a pump for easy application. Never felt a dry patch on my face after I applied it.The container is of good quality. Once empty, you can reuse it for your other purposes.

The only drawback is that it is very expensive for a rose water. But I don’t mind paying the price because it is worth every penny.

How to apply rose water?

Ifย  it’s a spray bottle, you can directly spray the product on you face keeping the bottle at least 15-20 cms away from your face. Then pat the water with your finger tips and palms.

If it is a normal bottle- take some product on your plan and apply with with finger tips. You can also use cotton balls for application. I personally feel that cotton ball absorbs most of the rose water and you end up using more product than it is required. However, there is nothing wrong with using cotton balls as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

So ladies, which is your favourite rose water/ toner?

  1. hey rati , I find bitter orange spray really good otherwise .. instantly freshens up .. I also notice a lil brightness in complexion .

  2. Actually true. I am reluctant to use anything else other than a rose water as my toner. Will see how much the packaging attracts me next time I go to Fab India. ๐Ÿ˜›

  5. Hey!
I know this review is really old but its only today that I used Dabur gulabari spray for the first time.
I have used the clear rose water from dabur all my life, never tried the fab india one, but I have to say I am so disappointed!
I was in a hurry to pick the spray thing up, coz at work, with the air conditioners on, my skin has started drying up, so i didnt really read the ingredients. However, now that I am home I went through it, it has some really harmful stuff in it-SLS and parabens are the two tht I know for sure! I knw I am so going to not use this! such a shame, I bought it today! I wish I had read this review earlier! ๐Ÿ™ maybe I can use it as a room refreshner… lol
Dabur surely loses creditability because of this!

  6. hey……i’m a school student.i spend 7 hrs in school…can i use dabur gulabari face freshner for keeping my skin look good????i have normal skin type….how many times should i use it in school???plz help

  8. I’ve been using dabur gulabari gulab jal from eons and I WAS very happy with it, till yesterday. That because, yesterday only, I noticed that it contains paraben ๐Ÿ™
I’ve also used dabur gulabari face freshner, and it irritated my skin alot :hate: :hate: :hate:
Today, I’ve used Fabindia rose facial water and I am very happy with it ๐Ÿ™‚ . Moreover, it doesn’t contain any chemical (actually, that is what the product claims)
    Now, I’m happy happy ๐Ÿ™‚
