Skin Polishing Treatment at Home

We expose our skin to a variety of things everyday – dust, pollution, sun rays and what not! This causes our skin to lose its natural lustre. It is important we do a bit of skin care to pamper our skin and in order to protect our skin from adverse effects of all the pollution and dust. We can restore our skin’s natural glow by doing a bit of more exfoliation treatment at home in order to remove the dead cell layers and even our skin tone. So with the wedding season round the corner, we can try skin polishing at home without spending huge bucks. Please dedicate proper time for this treatment.

Skin care was always an important part of beauty regimen for women and men throughout historic times. Ancient skin care products consist of concoctions of secret formula tonics for smooth and fare skin which was very much sought after as riches and glory. Skin care products were incorporated with natural ingredients that were available easily: beeswax, witch hazel, aloe vera etc. It is said that ancient Greek athletes would apply olive oil and fine sand to protect their skin from being sunburned.  🙂 interesting huh ?
Ok so what are we waiting for ….let’s start with set of basic things we will need to begin skin polishing:
• Pumice stone (loofah/rough body cloth will also do)
• Pure olive oil
• Exfoliating sugar body scrub or facial
• You can use skin polishing kits that are available in the market.

To Face Polish moisten your skin with warm water and use a gentle exfoliant (please find the gentlest exfoliant because skin on the face is very delicate). Start rubbing in a circular motion while taking care to avoid the sensitive area around the eyes. If you have acne problems, use a facial peel to smooth the skin instead of a body scrub. Avoid mechanical polishing of the face if you suffer from acne. Instead use products that contain salicylic acid or alpha-hydroxy formula. ALWAYS MOISTURIZE after skin polishing regardless of your skin type.

To Body Polish, steam up your bathroom and take a warm shower. Turn off the water and start rubbing pure olive oil all over your body. Allow it to soak in for about 10 minutes, to condition the skin and make polishing easier and gentler on the skin. Warm the area by covering it with cotton towel. Now apply a gentle sugar body scrub with your polishing cloth all over your body in gentle circular motions. Apply gentle pressure in order to exfoliate thoroughly. Do not tub too long and hard.  Take the luxury of time while body polishing, working upwards towards the heart. On rough areas such as knees, heels and elbows you can use your pumice stone. Apply Vaseline before hand to soften such areas.

Rinse off the skin polish with warm water. You can leave the oil from your skin polishing onto your skin for moisturization and then wash it off or use another body lotion to moisturize. After skin polishing and rinsing, never rub your skin with a towel, but pat it dry gently instead. Remember, the key to skin polishing is to be gentle and to polish no more than twice per week for perfectly glowing skin.

Now that you know the protocol, you can make your own skin polishers at home. You can try some of these given below:

Brown sugar and jojoba oil

Sugar: antibacterial, Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, the sugar manually exfoliates the skin while you are rubbing, the natural glycolic chemical in the sugar adds to the exfoliation.

Jojoba Oil:
provides moisturization to the skin.

Add one cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup jojoba oil, 1 tablespoon orange oil and four to five capsules of Vitamin E to a glass bowl.

Mix the ingredients and check consistency. If the polish is too thick, add more jojoba oil until it is thinner and spreadable. Rest of the protocol you girls know it already – -scrub in circular motion. Rinse and apply moisturizer.

Sugar and Strawberry Scrub

Use a fork to mash two ripe strawberries. Add in a half teaspoon of almond oil. Stir in 10 teaspoons of raw sugar to make the body scrub.

Baking Soda and Aloe Vera Scrub

Baking soda: is used as exfoliatant. It also has softening effect on skin. It helps prevent acne and also helps in reducing body odour.

Aloe vera: Aloe vera is beneficial for cracked and dry skin. Aloe is used in many skin care products because of its ability to stimulate healthy cell growth and repair damaged tissues.

Pour two tablespoons of baking soda into a dish. Stir in either pure aloe vera gel, either bottled or directly from an aloe plant. Add more baking soda if the exfoliate gets too thin.
You can also create an exfoliate with baking soda alone. Just wet your skin and use it like soap.
Olive Oil and Flour Scrub

Start with two tablespoons of wheat flour. Add in a half teaspoon of turmeric. Stir in a half teaspoon of olive oil.

Hope you girls pamper your skin with these treatments.. do give it a try and lemme know how it worked for you all.

  1. I love scrubbing my body. Infact scrubbing has helped me a lot in getting rid of ingrown hair and now waxing has become easier for me. I don’t find too much time to make home made scrubs so I buy the ready made ones. Love the TBS strawberry body polish.
