Steamcream Review

Steamcream

Steamcream (one word, not two, according to their website) is a moisturizer for the face, body, and hands. It originates from the UK, and comes in tins with beautiful designs. I’d been longing to try it, so when soon after my birthdayI spotted this particular design—which happens to be my zodiac sign—on sale, I took that as a sign to just buy the darn thing already.

Product claim:
STEAMCREAM represents the latest concept in skincare. Freshly handmade using high-quality, natural ingredients that are fused together by a shot of steam. This unique method makes the cream very lightweight, providing long-lasting hydration for the face. The texture also makes it a perfect nourishing treat for your body and hands too.
STEAMCREAM is handmade in the UK and Japan with fresh, traceable ingredients. It’s super-moisturising, sinks deep down instantly and revives your skin straight away. It makes your skin simply the best it can be, naturally.

I purchased Steamcream intending to use it primarily as a hand cream. The eczema on my hands is at the worst it’s ever been due to frequent hand washing from caring for a baby, and my hands need to be constantly moisturized. The Steamcream tin design I got is one from their zodiac sign series. I find it simple and elegant, though not the best among their many designs, but I think it’s a good choice for my fist Steamcream because Cancer is my astrological sign.

The tin packaging isn’t the sturdiest; there’s already a small dent on the lid, which I think was from when I accidentally dropped the jar. The lid can be screwed on tightly and it doesn’t seem like it would leak if put in a purse, but I prefer to leave it on my vanity at home because it’s nice to look at and I don’t want it getting damaged any further.

Steamcream has a mild scent that to me smells clean and slightly floral. In its ingredients list, there’s Orange Flower, Lavender Oil, and Chamomile Blue Oil, and I think it’s a combination of those that I’m smelling. I find the scent pleasant and calming. Steamcream has a really light texture. It’s a thin type of cream but it’s not runny. It does not feel thick in the least and a moderate amount spreads easily over both of my hands. It absorbs in a minute and doesn’t feel greasy; it doesn’t leave a lingering ‘lotion’ feel.

Yet it leaves my very dry skin feeling moisturized and relieved. The effect lasts for about two hours, which I think is good enough, considering how dry my hands are. It also does not irritate my sensitive, eczema laden fingers, unlike other fragranced hand creams which can make the itching in my hands start up again after application.
I’d bet it’s gentle enough for the face, but I haven’t used it as a full-on face moisturizer. I’ve only dabbed it on areas of my face that I happened to notice were dry and flaking while putting Steamcream on my hands.I’m not comfortable using the same tub I use as hand cream, as a facial moisturizer. It’s just not hygienic and doing that might make my acne come back.Maybe the next tin I buy I’ll use just on my face. Speaking of buying another tin of Steamcream, despite the high price for what is only 75g or 2.6oz of product (I can get a 12oz bottle of Aveeno lotion for around the same price), I find that it’s worth it and I look forward to getting my next Steamcream.

Yes.
IMBB Rating: 4.25/5
Overall: I’m glad to know that in the case of Steamcream, it’s NOT style over substance. It’s a lovely, mildly scented, light cream that moisturizes and doesn’t irritate my very dry, sensitive skin. I do recommend trying it.
