Hair fall is something that causes much heartache to several women across the world. To combat this, Sunsilk has brought out the Hair Fall Solution Shampoo and Conditioner. This has been co-created by Dr. Francesca Fusco, Scalp Care Specialist who is a world leading expert in dermatology and scalp care.

Review: The shampoo comes in a golden colored bottle with a slim shape. It has an easy to open flip cap and the shampoo comes out quite easily. However, the expert opinion by Dr. Francesca shown on the back of the bottle is a bit difficult to read, given the dark background.

The conditioner comes in a tube of the same color as the shampoo and has a flip cap at the bottom. At the back is a description of the 2-Step process to limit hair fall:

Step 1: Cleanse (with shampoo)
Step 2: Nourish (with conditioner)

The directions for the shampoo are to lather up a clean scalp and remove dirt. Rinse and repeat. The shampoo is a bit watery compared to the conditioner. A little quantity suffices to lather up my hair from root to tip. (My hair is not thick and is about 2-2.5 inches below my shoulder).

The conditioner is then to be massaged on the hair strands, concentrating on the ends and washed off after 1 minute.

The smell of the shampoo and conditioner isn’t very strong, and it is hard to actually identify a fragrance.

The shampoo doesn’t lather much, but rinses out well. After washing, my hair felt softer and nourished. It also became a lot easier to detangle, especially at the ends of my hair which has the greatest tendency to become a tangled mess. As a result, there was less breakage and showed less hair on my comb than usual, though I’m not sure about the strengthening of the hair from ‘root to tip’. It didn’t help the frizziness of my hair, either.

If you’re applying oil beforehand, it would take two washes with the shampoo to wash out all the oil, one wouldn’t be enough.

Ingredients:

Shampoo – Water, Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Dimethconol and Tea-Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Cocamedopropyl betane, Perfume, Sodium Chloride, Carbomer, Glycol Distearate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimoniumchloride, Mica and Titanium Dioxide, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Lysine Hydrochloride, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Hydroxide

Conditioner – Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone and Amodimethicone and PEG-7 Propylhectyl Ether and Cetrimonium Chloride, Behentrimonium Chloride, Perfume, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Methyl paraben, Disodium EDTA, Lactic Acid, Lysine Hydrochloride, Panthenol, Hydrolized Soy Protein, Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone

Pros:

1. Shampoo
a. Price is reasonable
b. Long Shelf Life
c. Rinses out well, not a major factor in product buildup
d. A small quantity will suffice to cover entire scalp and medium length hair
e. Hair feels softer and nourished after wash

2. Conditioner
a. Price is reasonable
b. Long Shelf Life
c. Creamy consistency, coats the hair well
d. Requires only one minute for action
e. Helps in making hair tangle free and hence reduces breakage
f. Hair feels smoother

Cons:

1. Shampoo
a. Does not lather much
b. Does not wash out oil completely
c. No pleasant fragrance

2. Conditioner
a. Contains parabens
b. Does not have any effect on frizz
c. No pleasant fragrance

Verdict: The main claim of the shampoo and conditioner was reduced hair fall. I’d say that it is more of reduced hair breakage. After washing, your hair becomes smoother and easier to comb, which reduces the breakage. I’m not sure if continued usage of the shampoo would cause any effect to actually reduce hair falling from the scalp. My main concerns are that it doesn’t wash out oil completely and does not combat frizz effectively. However, it would be okay as a mild daily shampoo and conditioner, provided you don’t apply oil before hand.

Would I buy it again? Maybe, but I would be on the lookout for better versions.
