Colorbar Beauty Fever Makeup Kit (Limited Edition) Review and Swatches.

Hello IMBBians this time I am reviewing the Colorbar Beauty Fever Makeup Kit (Limited Edition). I first saw this kit in IMBB a very long back and decided to go for it.. but I needed a strong reason why I want to have it for to tell to my mother.. so I told my bf (now fiancé ) to gift me this one whenever we will get engaged. After many its and buts he agreed and now presently I own it.. and I loooving it. This is a great makeup kit for the people who are new in makeup and want to try different colors on them before going to the high end brands. And I am one of them.

So to start with it, the product claims that, Beauty Fever Makeup Kit (Limited Edition) is a triple tiered palette for the eyes, face and lips plus all the tools you need to put together endless looks. Crazy about colour? Need Plenty of makeup options at all times? The Colorbar beauty fever makeup kit has everything you need. It is indeed an artist’s arsenal. It is big on style with eye shadows, blush, lip-gloss, soft touch lip color, compact powder, eyeliner and eyebrow pencil, all adapted to mix and match perfectly.

Ingredient list: Is not provided I guess it will be the same as their individual products, I mean I hope so… not sure about it..

Packaging and contents : it is a cute designed and compact make up kit. Can be taken in a bag very safely,, no fear of misplacing the contents. It has an inbuilt mirror. It contains 16 eye shadows… yes you read it write 16 eye shadows, 4 lip colors, 2 lip glosses, 2 blushes, one pressed powder, one black eye pencil, one eyebrow pencil, one powder puff, one eye shadow applicator, one tiny small brush I think it’s a blush brush and one lip brush.

Price: Rs.950/- for an entire kit. I guess if I divide the price only for e/s then each e/s will cost around Rs.60, which is just superb.

Colorbar Eye shadows : There are pretty 16 eye shadows in this kit. These are 1.8 gm each in quantity. The colors are white, silver, yellow, brown, canverry, red, pink, lavender, black, shiny white, lime green, dark green, aqua blue, metallic blue, beige and matte brown. All the shades have shimmer to them except the last two. Remaining all are with different degree of pigmentation and shimmer to them for e.g. the brown, shiny white, black and aqua blue are very well pigmented. Some appear a bit chalky e.g. the white and lavender. Some are silky e.g. yellow, canverry, pink, lime green. Some are not true to its color e.g. canverry and red, both are not at all canverry (I think it should be cranberry, it is spelled wrongly by them) and red. Some of them lack pigmentation and color payoff. I find them a bit less in quality as compared to their single e/s dibbis. I have their copper crush e/s and I find it pretty good in quality as compared to any of the e/s in this kit. The dibbiwala e/s is smooth and fine. Coming to their staying power, it is directly proportional to their pigmentation. More pigmented the color is more is the staying power. They all smudge and fade completely after 3 hours or so. But it is not the same when applied with a good base. I use Revlon Crème Eye shadows as base. And they stay longer. In the swatches I have applied this base and each e/s is 2-3 times applied. Out of all I personally loved the shimmery brown and black one.

Colorbar Lip colors: there are in total 4 lip colors and they are from their soft touch range and 0.8 gm each. I have one lipstick from this range and the quality of is quite similar. Pigmentation is good. They stay on for more than 3 hours without eating or drinking. And the colors provided are good. I don’t know which shades are these. So finding them again will be a problem for sure, as I liked the third one very much.

Colorbar Lip glosses: there are two lip glosses provided in it. one is a clear gloss with silver shimmer and other is a golden colored with golden shimmer to it. both are jelly like in consistency may for them to get fit in this kit and avoid being runny. These are good ones and I liked them.

Colorbar Blushes: there are two blushes in this 3gm each. One is a brown colored and other is a pink coloured. The shades are not named but I think first is the plum brown and second is the cosmic rose. Correct me if I am wrong. I own their just earth blush and I find the quality is the same as their individual blushes.. Both are very nice. As I don’t use much of the blushes so it saved me from buying more blushes in haste. I love the pink one.

Colorbar Compact powder: it is 5gm in quantity. I think it is their time plus compact powder. The shade is the lightest one provided and it suit me the best. The staying power is quite good. Next I will go for their compact powder.

Colorbar Eye pencil: there is a small eye pencil in black which is 0.6 gm in quantity. I cannot compare it with their I define or I glide pencils as I don’t own any of them.. I know its silly to talk this on IMBB,, but I will be going for them soon. The pencil is average kind nothing much to say about it.

Colorbar Eye brow pencil: it is a dark brown colored pencil for defining eye brows and I like it. it is again 0.6gm in quantity. After applying it in morning my eye brows remain defined till evening so I am happy about it.

Colorbar Brushes: Last and also the least. I think they have provided the brushes for name sake. They are hardly useful. The lip brush is good as compared to the other one but I think it can get lost at any time. The blush brush I doubt about it. it is tiny brush and I use it for blending my eye shadow in the crease. I know it’s silly but I don’t like to waste anything related to beauty and I use it in some way or the other. The powder puff is too small and need a delicate hand on it. Mine got a tear when I used it in hurry one day. The e/s applicator is a typical sponged one and I am not liking it.

Overall verdict:

It is very good buy for beginners. One can mix and match different e/s colors with blush and lip colors. As I said each of the e/s will be costing Rs.60 in total, also I am getting the other things with it, which is a great deal. I liked all the stuff provided except the brushes… I think I am getting too greedy :P.

Will I buy it again? I think this one is enough for me. But I will be gifting it to my friends to open their doors of mind towards makeup.

Overall rating: I will give it a :* :* :* :* rating. -1 because looking at of some of eye shadows I felt like cheated.

I tried many make up looks with this but only two were worth showing to you so here are they. I am not a pro at it but could not resist showing it to all of you.

How to do a Classic Red Pout

Hello all you lovely gals!!!

A red pout is as classic and elegant as a Little Black Dress. Remember Marilyn Monroe, or closer to home… Rekha??

A Classic red pout is unarguably the most coveted and desirable look. It has always been and will always be in.
It can be combined with Indian and Western outfits alike. But it is an out and out formal look. I am gonna try and create a similar look here. Let’s go step by step.

Here’s the makeup and makeup tools that you’ll need:

What is the one most important thing required for the Classic red look? Red lipstick??

NO!!! It’s a concealer. A flawless, even and preferably matte complexion is very vital for the red look. Then come your rest of the things.

Here’s my makeup and makeup tools that I am using-

• Face: Maxfactor’s Pan Stick in Bisque Ivory, Maybelline’s Whitestay UV compact in Fawn
• Cheeks: Colorbar’s Just Earth Blush
• Lips: Lakme Bridal Sutra Glide On Lipcolour in Bronze Glitter (lip liner), Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Rum Raisin
• Eyes: Maybelline Shadow Stylist in Casual Brown, Colorbar Duo mascara, Lakmé Eye Artist pen.
• Makeup Tools: Foundation sponge, Lip liner Brush, lip filler Brush, Powder Brush, Blusher Brush, Eyebrow Filler, Eyeshadow Brush
• And tones and tones of ATTITUDE!!!!

Step 1: Create a flawless base.

• Use Pan cake, Stick foundations, concealers… Anything!!! But the face should be flawless. Check out the above photos.
• Apply a coat of concealer on and around your lips as well.
• The makeup can be heavy. But no uneven skin tone and no natural look!! This is unabashed makeup at its best.
• I prefer a matte look but as you can see above- Rekha’s makeup is quite dewy but heavy nonetheless!!
• Here’s my base makeup- (I think I look scary!!!)

Step 2: Start painting the pout.

• It is very important to use a nice sharp matte lip liner in a colour closest to your lipstick.

• Outline your lips and fill them in with the liner. I have thin and slightly lopsided lips. So I outline my lips on the outer side of my natural lip line to cover it.

• Don’t mind the concealer patches in the corners of my mouth. I blend them at the end. This helps me see the line clearly in the corners.
• Now take a lip filler brush and carefully colour your lips starting from the centre and going outwards. Take care to stay within the lip liner.
• The lipstick I am using here is not the typical Classical Red… I have that one too, but I look like a vampire ready to strike in it. This is the reddest I can go without looking awkward. Do spend time to find that one prefect shade of red that will light up your face. If the red you have is not suiting you, don’t wear it. Take your own time.
• This shade looks pretty red on me, but on someone with fairer complexion, it will look coppery brown. So don’t choose your red lipstick by the routine hand swatch. Look for an outfit of yours that is in reddish hue. Wear it when you are going shopping. Match the lipstick with the colour and feel of the fabric.
• I look hideous in a tomato red or a blood red. But coppers, golds and all sorts of metallic colours look fabulous on me. (Check out my funky Leopard print kurti in the pic!!!) So I chose a coppery red with satin finish.
• If you look good in a blood red chiffon sari/kurti or a tomato red T-shirt, you should go for that colour, probably in matte finish. This is just a rough guideline to shortlist your products.
• The best thing would be to ask the SA to apply the lipstick on your lips with a lip brush. (Carry a lip brush with you!!!) The true colour will always be evident on the lips only.

• Take a tissue. Fold it in half and keep it in your mouth. Press your lips on it.
• Now take a powder brush or puff and dab some loose powder onto your lips.

• Apply a second coat of the red lipstick. This will help set in the colour and make it last longer.

• It also prevents bleeding and feathering of the red colour.

Step 3: Eyes

• Give a wash of a nude eye shadow on the entire eyelid. Highlight the brow bone with a lighter shade.
• Define the eyebrows. Well groomed and filled eyebrows give clarity to this look.
• I am drawing a very fine line with the Lakmé Eye artist pen on my upper lash line. If you are clumsy with liners you can completely skip this step. We do not want a thick or sloppy line.
• Apply 2-3 coats of mascara on upper and lower lashes. You can use false eyelashes for added drama.

Step 4: Cheeks

• We need to just give a hint of colour on the cheeks. I am applying just one swipe of the Colorbar “Just Earth” blush. If you have a very round face, you can sculpt your cheeks with some bronzer.

That’s it… We are done baby… You can rock this look anytime… It looks good at daytime and nighttime both. But I do it only for formal occasions. It tends to look OTT otherwise.

Okay,  long awaited The Body Shop India Sale is on. I picked up some stuff from there today. The sale says upto 50 percent off but most products are 15 percent off and a very few of them are ar25, 35 and 50 percent off. People are just buying buckets full of stuff. It’s time you too rush as well!

Members have an advantage of extra 10 percent off. So it means if you are a member you could avail the benefit of 25% on a 15% off stuff. The membership fees is Rs 500 and you would get a 10% discount through out the year.

I would review the products that I bought in coming week so that it might be helpful to some of your guys.

Some updates:

I went to Shopper’s Stop to check out Lakme’s Satin Finish Lipsticks. First the SA didn’t even know that something new was launched by Lakme. The stock was displayed right in front so I only told him that these are the new launches. Second, I wanted to check those out but they didn’t have the testers. The guy gave me an offer to pick the lipsticks only by their number. Third, I asked him for a 527 shade. They had all lipsticks in only 423 shade. Sigh!! He didn’t even know the price. I was so annoyed.

The same Shopper’s Stop has an offer going on Maybelline lipsticks and nail paints. Buy two get one free. I selected two shades and then asked if I could choose the third one. They said that there is only one fixed shade. I asked them for the free shade but they had no clue about it. Reason, the Maybelline SA had gone out for a lunch and no one else but him could give an info about the free shade. Finally, didn’t buy anything.

I had no more enthusiasm to look for stuff at other counters so I headed straight to the Colorbar’s store.

Boy! they never fail to impress me. I think they have included someone new in their staff and the girl was so smiles and warmth. To give you some updates about makeup:

• Colorbar has launched some 8-10 shades of blushes and in some gorgeous colours from browns to peaches to plums to gold and silver shimmers. I picked up another one.
• They have come up with coloured kajals. Right now in two colours-purple and black. the packaging is one to fall in love with. It’s shiny black packaging with a little red ribbon hanging at the bottom. How cute is that.
• They have come up with duo lipsticks. These lipsticks are only for their stores and would not be sold online. They are created on the concept of changing your look from day to night.  They are two lipstick shades joined with each other from between. One shade is lighter for the day time and the other one is darker for the night time.  The third shade you can create by mixing the two. Price is in the range of Rs 375 or 400. Forgot!
• And new nail paint colours as usual.

It’s a peachy blush witth sliver shimmer and it’s called Cinnabar.

The SA was very sweet and made my shopping a happy experience. I so love colorbar, they are really doing some thoughtful and quality work.

Inglot has the same 40 percent off going on their nail paints. Inglot has the face primers (Rs 900)and eyeshadow primers (Rs 490). The eye primers look like the MAC paint pots and the face primer is a transparent silicon gel that comes in an tiny tube.

Just in case you guys try any of their primers. Do let me know. I am yet to try primers.

By the way, have you guys tried Maggi’s Pazzta. I love it. It’s such a lazy people meal.

I used Mac Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation today so I thought I’ll give you a little update on it before reviewing the product officially.

Two updates:

1. I applied my Colorbar’s Peachy Pink blush today on top of Mac Satinfinish foundation and the blush stayed on my cheeks for almost three hours. I had skipped applying powder on top of foundation and directly applied blush. Girl o’ girl! it was there on my cheeks and I still looked fresh. After almost three hours the blush was kind of fading out but nothing before that.

This means that Lakme’s Nine to Five foundation was eating/ drinking my blush? Or is there some other logic behind it? lol!

2. My hubby gave a compliment again. He said my skin was looking flawless and fresh. Yay!

I was actually feeling guilty that I did such a good review of Lakme’s Nine to five foundation and it didn’t work for me only. I just want to say sorry but I was not trying to mislead you guys or promote Lakme. I don’t get paid for any reviews that I do on this blog. I am just trying stuff myself and telling my experiences on the same.

Colorbar Blushes

Colorbar Cosmetics Blushes

I have been using Colorbars’ blushes for past 8 months. Time is ripe to do a review on them. Also this post is especially dedicated to Palak from TeenagerWoes who had patiently waited for my review. This one is for you sweetheart.

Key Ingredients: Talc, Aluminium starch, octenylsuccinate, Nylon 6, Isostearyl, Neopentandate, Polybutene, Cyclohexasiloxane, Butyl Stearate, Ethyhexyl, Methoxycinnmate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cyclopentasiloxane, , Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben,  Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben (I thought I had left organic chemistry way behind :P)
May contain: Red7lake, Iron Oxides, Manganese Violet, Titanium Dioxide, Mica

Note: I have not done much search on the ingredients. If you have any info about any harmful ingredient, do let me know.

Price: Rs 250 each for 6 gms of blush.

What are colorbar blushes?

They are pressed powder blushes.

Why should you buy colorbar blushes?

1. Beautiful range of colours from pinks to browns to gold.
2. Do not dry your cheeks at all. My skin gets pretty dry in winters but never ever have I felt any dryness caused by these blushes. In fact, my skin looks smoother and glowy with them on.
3. Not very pigmented but are quite build-able.
4. Look very natural.
5. Give a gorgeous glow to your face.
6. Convenient Packaging.
7. Inbuilt mirror
8. Comes with an okayish brush. In fact, I find the bristles pretty smooth. If you are travelling and you don’t want to carry an exta brush, this brush wouldn’t fail you.  Nothing great about it but can’t say it is bad.
9. Comes in a transparent cover  packaging. So would would never have to waste time searching the colours.
10. Decently priced

Why shouldn’t you buy Colorbar blushes?

1. They do not stay on your cheeks for very long. Very disappointing in that area.
2. They tend to break and turn into powder, if handled roughly. In fact, they can be quite messy at times. (Check Cosmic Rose blush photograph)
3. No information given about the application of blushes.
4. I am a little confused about their manufacturing- the trademark says “Colorbar USA“, Contents “Made in Italy”, “Manufactured in Thane”,” Marketed by a Colorbar, New Delhi”. Would someone explain the logic to me? Or should I feel highly privileged that I am using such a globally manufactured product?

How to store Colorbar Blushes?

The blushes come in a square cardboard box. It is best that you store the containers in them only. This would prevent your blushes from breaking. I threw away the carton of Cosmic Rose and it broke and broke and churned itself into a messy powder.

Color by Color Report:

Colorbar has six shades and not five, as listed on their website.

1. Cosmic Rose:This is where my love for Colorbar’s blushes started. It a light pink colour blush and would look very pretty on people who have a fair and pinkish complexion. Non glittery.
2. Just Earth: I use it as my bronzer. I have a fairly fair complexion. This is a medium brown colour. Non glittery.
3. Peachy Pink: This is my favourite colour these days. It gives a warm pink glow and I think it will look the prettiest on most Indian skin tones. It has a little bit of golden glitter. But when did I say I don’t like glitter? Looks beautiful any time of the day. It is such a gorgeous colour. Oh My!
4. Trace Gold: I bought this one by mistake. I was looking for a bronzer but the foolish sales girl convinced me that it works great as a bronzer. It is not a bronzer, girlies. It is a highlighter. Actually, I am happy that I ended up buying it. As the name suggests, it has no colour, only traces of gold. You can use it as a highlighter either on top of your normal blush or right above your cheeks to give a hint of highlight. It is best if you use this with the brush that comes along with it. This brush will give a better hold than the normal blush brush.
5. Fuschia: I am yet to try this one. But I think fuschia would make a best blush for people who have wheatish complexion.
6. Plum Brown: No tried this one as well. But again would work as a great bronzer for people with fair to wheatish complexion.
