Emma Watson Inspired Eye Makeup Tutorial

Let me just start off by saying that I’m CRAZY about Harry Potter. I first heard of this magical universe created by Rowling when I was 15 years old and have been hooked on it and followed every book launch and every movie premier closely. I have seen their movie premier’s red carpet coverage live on the internet whenever possible and have always admired Emma Watson’s edgy fashion style. Her eye makeup for the New York premier; in July, 2011; of the last HP film made me want to faint with admiration. I fell in love with that look and have wanted to recreate it immediately! As you can see in the following images, it is just brilliant! It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea as it is an extreme look, but there is so much ethereal beauty in the colors and placing of the colors that I was captivated. (I felt a little bad for her because as you can see someone forgot to brush away the black color fall out!!!!)

I did try it out then but my first attempt was sad and I never went back to try it out again. But thanks to the IMBB community, my confidence in recreating this magical look increased manifold and I wanted to give it yet another shot. I did not have gold foil with me, so I decided to go for glitter. As some of you may realize, playing with glitter makes me happy! I wanted the look to be slightly more wearable, so I decided not to take the black color so high up towards my eyebrow in the corner. So, this is not a replication of the work done by her MUA, but my interpretation of the look. I hope you all like it.

I first wanted to start by making my eyebrows dark and in sync with the intense eye look. So, I used a black pencil and dark brown powder to darken/shape my eyebrows.

As I would be using glitter and black color, I did not apply any below my eyes just yet but applied only some on to my eyelids and up till the brow bone.

Taking a black kohl pencil, I started marking out a shape that I wanted the black color to be in.

When I was satisfied with the shape, I started filling it in with the same black pencil till I was satisfied with the intensity, leaving the inner corner bare.

I then blended out the harsh black edges a little.

In the inner corner, I applied some bright gold color and blended it out but only a little as I wanted to concentrate the gold only in the inner corner. I applied the gold on both the upper and lower inner corner.

I then applied some liner/kohl on my waterline and the lower lash line, slightly thickly, and joined it with the black color on the upper outer corner.

Taking some eyelash glue on a brush, I applied a little amount of it on the outer corner.

I then applied and dipped the same brush in some gold glitter and patted it on to the still tacky glue.

I repeated applying the glue and glitter with the same brush till I was satisfied with the shape and intensity.

I then used some tape to stick away the glitter fall out, applied concealer, thick coats of mascara and that’s it, done!

With utmost modesty, I would just like to mention that this has been my favorite look that I have done on myself EVER. Creating this has been a wonderful experience and the fact that it is associated with HP makes it even more special!

Glitter Lashes Eye Makeup Tutorial

Hello Beautiful Ladies!

This makeup look is so simple to create but can drastically add so much glitz and glam to the eyes. This was a product of sheer experimentation. So, let’s get right into it.

Products Used:

Faces Canada Sparkles Glitter Stack.
Lakme Insta Eyeliner.
Estee Lauder Kajal Pencil.
Estee Lauder Projectionist Mascara.
Faces Sparkle Dust in Rainbow (only 2 colors from this stack – Purple, Pink).

Start by prepping your eyes with some primer/concealer, etc.

Apply black kohl all over the eyelid up till the crease area.

Blend it out with a brush and keep adding black kohl till you are satisfied with the depth of the colour.

Take some purple colour on a flat brush and pat it on over the black nut only near to the crease. Blend it out for a smoother transition.

I wanted to make the crease and outer V a bit more darker, so I added some more black with whatever was left on the brush I had used earlier to blend out the black kohl.

I then added some pink colour above the crease to further blend out the purple colour and also took that pink colour on the lower lash line.

I then added some black liquid liner on the lower lash line and extended it up above to mark out the extent of the cat-eye liner that I wanted.

I then completed applying the eye liner. I wanted an exaggerated winged-eye and that’s what I tried to aim at.

Now, comes the absolute fun part! I applied a very heavy coat of mascara and then working very quickly, patted my index and thumb finger over some purple glitter, & “pinched” my lashes with these 2 fingers, so that the glitter would coat the still wet mascara on the lashes. I “pinched” the entire length and breadth of my lashes in an effort to coat all lashes with as much as glitter as possible.

Brush away the glitter fall out and that’s it! Done!

It’s a look I completely love! I cannot wait to try it with all colours of glitter that I have. It is subtle yet impactful. It looks really pretty off camera especially. Its only when I blink that it is noticeable that there is glitter on the lashes. Otherwise the lashes just appear thick and long.

I was worried about the fallout throughout the day but I had it on for nearly 6 hours and counting, and the fallout is minimal, negligible even. Thank God!

I haven’t done a smokey eye look since a long time, it feels, but today, I decided to create a colorful smokey look perfect for spring. Coastal Scents 42 Matte Palette.
Coastal Scents Hot Pot M27 and S03.
Wet’N’Wild Petal Pusher.
ELF Eyeshadow Squad in Pretty N’Pink.
Rival De Loop Hypnotic lashes Mascara.
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk.
L’Oreal Liquid Eyeliner (gold one in black).
Rimmel Eye pencil in Black.
Coastal Scents Eyeshadow Primer.

Step 1:

Apply a thin layer of eyeshadow primer and a white sticky base so that the eyeshadow sticks a lot better on the eyelid.

Step 2:

Put a matte bright orange eyeshadow on the eyelid under the crease.

Step 3:

Take a matte medium brown and put this in the crease of the eye.

Step 4:

Take a shimmery highlight color and apply that under the eyebrows.

Step 5:

Take an even more shimmery eyeshadow and place that in the inner corner of the eye.

Step 6:

Take a shimmery purple eyeshadow with a blue undertone and place this right under the lower lash line.

Step 7:

Apply your mascara , eyeliner, and eye pencil if preferred and you should have a smokey eye that looks close to this one.

Shimmery Brown and Matte Black Eye Makeup Tutorial

Hello Ladies,

This is my first eye makeup tutorial.

Products Used:

NYX Eyeshadow Base in Pearl.
NYX Long Eye Pencil (Black).
BH Cosmetics 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette First Edition.

So, let’s begin:

Step 1:

Apply eyeshadow base/primer on the eyelid. I have used NYX Eyeshadow Base in Pearl and blend it well on the upper eyelid. This eyeshadow base itself is shimmery and it helps in building the intensity of your eyeshadow and adds shimmer to matte eyeshadows too.

Step 2:

Apply matte black eyeshadow on the outer corner (outer V) of your eyelid and extend it further into the crease. Let it be darker at the outer corner, gradually fading into the crease.

Step 3:

Apply matte medium brown eyeshadow on the outer 2/3rd part of the eyelid, blending it into the black eyeshadow on the outer corner.

Step 4:

Apply shimmery golden yellow eyeshadow on the inner 1/3rd part of the lid blending it into the medium brown eyeshadow applied on the 2/3rd outer part.

Step 5:

Now, take a shimmery brown eyeshadow and apply it just above the crease and blend it into the black eyeshadow in the crease (smoothen the edges formed by the black eyeshadow).

Step 6:

Apply slight shimmery highlighter on the brow bone and extend the same towards the inner corner of the eye in a sweeping motion.

Step 7:

Apply black eyeliner on the upper lid, lower lid and waterline (starting right from the tear duct). Connect the eyeliner applied on the upper and lower lid and smudge a little below the lower lid at the outer corner. Set the eyeliner with black eyeshadow to avoid further smudging and you are done!

I haven’t applied mascara here, but if you want, you can curl your lashes and apply mascara or for more dramatic effect, you can also apply fake lashes.

Pigments Eye Makeup Tutorial

I have read and heard often that many find it hard to work with pigments. Another thing I’ve read and heard equally often that many do not prefer shimmery eye shades because they may look over the top. So, I thought I would do a look using shimmery pigments and hopefully show that they are not that hard to work with nor do they look like your eyes are glitter bombs. It’s the amount you pick up with your brush, the blending you do and the colors you combine that decides how subtle or dramatic your eye makeup ends up. So, let’s get the tutorial started and hope you guys like it!

Products Used:

Faces Sparkle Dust in Rainbow (only 3 colors from this stack – Teal, Purple, Pink).
Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Quad (only the Highlighter color).
Florelle Kajal.
Lakme Insta Eye Liner.
Different brushes and applicators.

A close up of the 3 pigments used (it is really more of a teal/green shade, don’t know why it appears so blue).

When working with pigments, one may worry about fall-out. To minimise the fall out, pick up a tiny amount of the pigment with your brush and swirl your brush in the reversed lid of that pigment jar and tap the excess pigment. This way you can ensure that you pick up only a little amount with negligible fallout. It’s better to go back to pick up color than to put on too much and worry about removing some.

Step 1:

I applied foundation/concealer/primer only to the upper lid and not on the lower. This way, if there is any fallout, I can brush it off before applying anything.

Step 2:

I then applied the green/teal pigment over my eyelid, from the lash line to just below the crease. I had to go back twice more to get the required color. I always pick up very little amount of pigment.

Step 3:

With an angular brush, I then marked put the crease and created an outer “V” shape with the purple pigment. I first concentrated on just placing the color, can always blend it later.

Step 4:

I then blended the purple out by picking up VERY little pink with a fluffy blending brush. Using a pink around the purple helped in merging the colors better. I blended ensuring that when I opened my eyes, the green would more visible on the eyelid and the pink/purple stayed on the crease area mostly.

Step 5:

I then cleaned up under the eye with a concealer using a brush to create a sharp edge where the purple ends at the outer crease.

Step 6:

I took a thinner brush and picked up more of the pink pigment and placed it below the lower lash line and also took it sharply beside the purple/pink in the crease. I also applied a little amount on the inner corner.

Step 7:

I applied a highlighter color on the brow bone ensuring to blend out any harsh lines above the crease created with the pink/purple. I then applied kajal in the waterlines and then went for eyeliner (I used liquid here).

I applied the eyeliner such that the VERY thin wing or flick is right in between the purple and the pink line I drew on.

I then drew the eye liner below the lower lash line ensuring that it was an extension of the flick/wing and I used my kajal pencil to fill in any gaps that were left between the black in the water line and the black of the adjacent eyeliner.

That is it! I was done.

The camera adds more shine to the makeup; from afar it doesn’t look very “shiny-shiny.” I love these pigments from Faces! Applying pigments has turned out to be easier than I originally thought it was and when using shimmery colors, I tend to use contrasting shades as the colors can cut into each other and the attention goes more to the different colors used than to all the shimmer.

7 Reasons you should Invest in a Gel Eyeliner

I love gel liners. I just have one black liquid liner , which I rarely use. I thought I’d give you some reasons why gel eyeliners are so super awesome .

Gel Liners are more forgivable than the liquid liners.I find them easier to apply as compared to liquid liners -2-3 strokes of brush and I am sorted.
They dry very fast as opposed to the liquid liners. So there are less chances of ruining your perfect eyeliner application.
You can double up your gel eyeliners as a base for smokey eyes or use them as a kajal on waterline. Those who always look for super long lasting kajals, try using gel liners for waterline. You’d be surprised how long they last. They are super long lasting.
I have rarely come across bad gel liners. I have used gel liners from Maybelline, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, Inglot, and MAC. I like all of them.
If they dry out, you can mix them with Inglot Duraline and they’d be new again.
They come in a variety of colors.
They come in adorable pots.

Hello My Lovelies!

Today, I’m going to be showing you a picture tutorial of the eye makeup I had applied recently.

Following are the steps:

Apply your favorite eye shadow primer and apply NYX eye shadow base in white all over the eyelid.

Apply a light brown eye shadow in the crease and slightly above it; blend it properly.
Take a darker brown and apply it on the outer corner of the eye, outer 1/3rd of the eye and in the crease. Blend it properly with the lighter brown previously applied.
Take a crease brush and make an outer V with a matte black eye shadow. Blend this on the outer 1/3rd of the eye along with the brown with a fluffy/blending brush. Note: All colors used so far are “matte.”
Take some shimmery golden eye shadow pigment and apply it to the remaining 2/3rd of the eyelid. I’ve used the “Faces Stackable – Enchanted in Golden” shade with a flat shading brush. Blend it well with the blacks and browns.
Use a highlight color on your brow bone and on the inner corner of the eye (tear duct area) and blend it well with the golden pigment.
Take a pencil brush and apply the golden pigment on the bottom lash line (inner 1/2 of the lash line) and apply a dark brown on the outer half of the bottom lash line. Blend any harsh lines.
Go ahead with all the colors again if you want to intensify the colors or if you have lost any color due to excessive blending. DO NOT BLEND the golden pigments too much. They tend to fade away, so use small patting motions when applying pigments.
Line your water line with a black gel liner. I’ve used the Inglot gel liner.
Apply eyeliner on the upper lash line and slightly wing it. Extend it on the inner corner to make your eyes applying slimmer and more feline; this is mostly used in “Arabic” eye makeup. You can line the bottom lash line as well. I have skipped it since I didn’t want it to look extreme.
Curl your lashes and apply your favorite mascara.
Apply concealer below your eyes and cheek bones to hide away any discoloration or eye shadow fall-outs.

Note:

You can also use false eye lashes, I have skipped this step since I’m not a fan of false eyelashes. If you want a more subtle look, you can use only dark browns and skip the black eye shadow.

How To Avoid Wedding Makeup Disasters

Your wedding day is the most special day of your life. For better or for worse, cynics might add, but heck, why would you even have a wedding day unless you actually wanted it to be the most special day of your life and on your happiest day, nothing can be ALLOWED to go wrong, especially your makeup. Here is your full-of-common-sense guide on how to avoid makeup disasters on a wedding day (especially if its yours). Here’s hoping you won’t be the blushing bride because of too much blush!

Buy Your Outfit Way Before Your Makeup, Jewelry, and Shoes:

Everything has to be coordinated, which is why you have to select your wedding dress way before anything else. Even if you are tempted to go over to the makeup counter and splurge just a tiny bit on that fabulous new shade of lipstick, you just have to have, save on your makeup budget. Be practical and buy your dress and shoes first.

Choose the Right Foundation:

Seriously hunt for the right foundation. Brides are often women who don’t have the time or the will to apply foundation. However, as a bride, you cannot go without it. Therefore, a mistake that brides often make is buying the wrong shade of foundation, especially Indian brides who mainly have a wheatish complexion think that looking like a vampire is probably the point to a foundation, which is why they always end up with shades much lighter. However, tuck that fairness myth safely away in the dustbin where it belongs. Gorgeous skin does not mean having one that makes you look like Morticia Addams. It is about a healthy glow, an even skin-tone and no blemishes. Therefore, look for the foundation that is closest to your skin tone. See that it offers superior coverage. Buy a liquid foundation rather than a powder one as this is winter. Always get it tested on your jawline and even a considerable part of your face upwards from there. The store is likely to have tube lights, so its best to go foundation hunting during the day. Ask for a mirror, go out of the store, study your jawline closely in the day light and then see whether it suits you.

Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturizing:

Have a proper skin care routine from at least a month before. This is for all you lazy gals out there who never quite take care of themselves. CTM – cleanse, tone, moisturize twice everyday. Exfoliate and apply face pack about once a week. Go for a facial before the wedding (its YOUR wedding after all) and be sure to CTM just before you apply your makeup.

Face Primer and Eye Primer:

Purchase a face primer and an eye primer if possible. A lot of people think that primers are unnecessary, but priming ensures that your makeup stays on longer without having to apply and re-apply too much. You cannot let your makeup fade out on your wedding day. Also, primers protect your skin.

Blush it Up:

Buy a peach blush if you are wheatish to dusky and a pink one if you have a lighter complexion. The Maybelline blush is both affordable and good, so no need to splurge on a more expensive one.

Coordinate Lipstick and Eyeshadow:

Buy your eyeshadow and lipstick coordinated with your outfit. Indian weddings tend to celebrate excess in everything, but it is high time to break away from that. Your wedding outfit is bound to be “heavy,” therefore you have to play it light and subtle with your make up. If you are going heavy on your eye makeup (especially if you have big, beautiful eyes), go light on the lipstick and vice-versa. Buy your shades accordingly.

Attractive Eye Makeup:

For eye makeup, shimmery eye-liner is a great idea. Ditch that black liner and kajal. It is time to go bridal with a bang. Lakme has a great line of colorful shimmery liners, even a transparent one to go with any color you want. For your lower waterline, go for NYX eye pencils. NYX also has a white pencil that is of great use. A lot of make-up artists tend to fatten the eyeliner and apply a thick line of kohl. That looks great of rock chicks, but they also make the eyes look small. Everyone loves big eyes. This is where a white pencil comes handy. They just make your eye pop! Also, never forget to get some mascara magic on. Use colored mascaras only if it co-ordinates with your eye shadow. Otherwise, use black or transparent mascara. Definitely, use a water-resistant one. Curl your lashes with a curler. Apply at least two coats and brush out clumps. Do not use falsies. This is your wedding, not a fashion show. Use a eyebrow pencil or some brown eye shadow to fill out the eyebrow. Use an eyebrow comb to sharply define your eyebrows.

Go For Red or Pink Lipstick:

For lipstick, use either a red or a pink. Stay away from browns, nudes and maroons and any other dark colors. Use red only if you want it to be the focal point by keeping the eyes and the outfit lighter. The best bet is to go with a pink that suits you. Also, do not go for a gloss, or a lipstick that has too glossy a finish. Search for something less glossy, but not matte, deeply pigmented and very smooth. Long-lasting is of course heavily desirable in this case, but do not depend on it even if it claims to. Always have your lipstick in your clutch purse. Also, you ABSOLUTELY must use a lip liner. I cannot count the number of brides I have seen with horrid bleeding lipstick lips. Co-ordinate the lip liner with the lipstick. Buy it a shade lighter so that the line doesn’t show.

Highlighter and Bronzer:

Get a highlighter and a bronzer only if you have faith in your makeup artist (or yourself). All brides get their makeup done by someone else, preferably a professional. However, if you have been practicing your makeup skills enough, you might want to do it on your own. However, contouring and other makeup subtleties are hard to master and even professionals often aren’t able to do it perfectly. Therefore avoid this step unless you are absolutely sure of it. You have your regular makeup covered anyway.

10. Choose the Correct Makeup Accessories:

Buy the most functional brushes, sponges, q-tips, cotton balls, makeup swipes. An artist cannot work without his tools- his brushes and his hands. Therefore, do not invest on an expensive lipstick and forget all about brushes. Half of the art of doing your own makeup lies in your tools. Buy a foundation brush and a sponge. Use the first for applying and second for blending. Definitely use a blush brush. Use an eye brow comb. Buy an eyelash curler and always have your disaster saviors like q-tips and cotton balls handy. The MAC brushes are the best, but you can also buy the very affordable Vega and Faces brushes. Read reviews on www.makeupandbeauty.com to know which ones to buy.

Get a manicure and pedicure:

We never quite take care of our hands and toes as we should. However, manicures and pedicures pamper and beautify. Definitely buy TWO nail polishes (using the same color on fingernails and toes is not a good idea).

Be Sure to Smile and Be Happy:

Don’t be nervous! Even if things don’t go according to your plan for the wedding day, what is most important is that you are getting married to who you love. Nothing makes a bride more beautiful than the glow of happiness on her face!

P.S. Almost forgot. Make sure ALL your makeup is WATER-RESISTANT!

MAC Liquidlast Liner in Point Black

Hi Friends, I am so happy happy these days as there are more and more MAC products entering my kit. I have nice big eyes and I am always on the look out for best kohls and eyeliners. These are a must-have in any girl’s kit. Thanks to IMBB, I am going mad after MAC these days and have stopped looking at other options outside. Today, I am reviewing my favourite product which is called the Liquidlast liner from MAC. The shade that I bought is called Point Black. It is the blackest of black, I really mean it.

I have bought so many black eyeliners that look really black when applied, but looks a shade lighter after it dries, but this one is amazing. I bought this when I went makeup shopping before my wedding. I wanted to have a full MAC makeup kit, but ended up buying only the essentials because of the budget. I was on the lookout for a waterproof black eyeliner. The MUA showed me this. I was initially skeptical about the waterproof thing and kept asking her again and again if it was really waterproof as there are many brands that have this tag, but they are actually not. The MUA told me that it was the best she was giving me and she applied it on me. She created a thick winged look and I really loved the color and texture so much. It dried within a few seconds and so, I went ahead and bought it.

About MAC Liquidlast Liner in Point Black:
A rich colour liquid eye liner that combines long-lasting wear with a non-smudge, non-flake precision line. Goes on effortlessly. Applies with its own brush to draw a perfectly defined line. Available in a wide range of classic and trend shades.

Packaging:

The packaging reminds me of the Lakme Nine to Five intense shine eyeliner. The brush is amazing, very pointed and neat. I shake the bottle and then use just one stroke to get a thick black line.

Price:

I do not remember the price exactly. I think I bought it for approximately Rs. 1100.

Pros of MAC Liquidlast Liner in Point Black:

Intense black.
Waterproof.
Smudge-proof.
Does not cause irritation to the eyes.
Just one stroke is enough, so it lasts many months.

Cons of MAC Liquidlast Liner in Point Black:

It is a little difficult to remove as it is waterproof. I tried removing it with my Revlon eye and lip makeup remover (already reviewed here), but it was still difficult. However, it did not irritate my eyes during the removal.
Price is a bit on the higher side.

The MUA suggested that MAC makeup remover is the best for such liners, but I was not ready to spend so much on a remover, now, I realize its worth.

My Verdict:

This is the best eyeliner I have ever owned, but I only use it for parties where I need it for a long time.

My Rating:
4.5/5, and -0.5 just for the high price factor.
