Hey Girls,

Since the time I was young, I have been a huge fan of kajals. I have tried almost all kajals available in the market. I am not really a fan of using kajals laden with chemicals on my waterline. For that, I prefer herbal kajals and then I came across Mumtaz Herbal Kajal and I fell in love with it, so I wanted to share my experience with all of you.

My Take on Mumtaz Herbal Kajal with Almond Oil:

This is the Mumtaz Herbal Kajal with almond oil and it’s the “gold series.” It comes in a cute gold pack, looks more like a lipstick case. Its like a twist-up normal kajal. On application, it feels cool and the best part is that it stays cool for a long time and not just on application. It feels great, though it smudges after like 3-4 hours, but I end up using it a lot. I use it on my waterline usually. I have been using this for a week now, so cannot comment on its “lash growing” properties. I just love how it makes my eyes feel and I am in awe of this kajal. I love this kajal and will keep using this because it makes my eyes feel fresh and stay fresh.

Under white light, one and two swipes

Pros of Mumtaz Herbal Kajal with Almond Oil:

Feels cool on application and the sensations stays for a long time.

Cute packaging and travel friendly.

Good intensity of colour.

Herbal hence safe for use on waterline.

Cheap.

BIOTIQUE ALMOND KAJAL REVIEW

I am yet to come across a girl who doesn’t like black Smokey eyes or just lots of kajal or kohl in the eyes to accentuate the look. It is said that your eyes are the mirror of your true self so who wouldn’t want them to be the most Perfect. Most of the girls in their teens start as a gloss and kajal person before turning into makeup lovers, I did and I am sure those who are reading the post also did so the importance of a good kajal increases many folds.

My hunt for a perfect dark non smudging kajal never ends( though I know there’s no kajal on this planet which wont smudge), I keep trying different brands ranging from Lotus, Himalaya, Hashmi, Avon, Amway to Biotique. I personally prefer herbal kajal as they don’t contain any harmful chemicals . I have very sensitive eyes. I have already done a review on Hashmi Kajal. today I will share my experiences with Biotique Kajal.
Product being reviewed:

What the product says?
Almond Kajal pure sesame oil, Sweet Almond oil along with extracts of Eclipta Alba and India Gooseberry nourish the eye area. This natural blend prepared in traditional Ayurvedic method improves your vision and promotes the growth of eyelashes. Made from natural extracts, you can apply this Kajal everyday to add sparkle to your eyes.
Packaging/ Price/ Quantity
It comes in a black twist up plastic case (like that of a lipstick), the cover is a little flimsy and might break if it falls from the hand. The price is 99 INR for 3 Gms. It is quite travel friendly and there is no need to sharpen.

My take on Biotique Almond Kajal:
I bought this kajal only for its ingredients since all of them seemed just perfect for what I was looking. It has a creamy texture and an intense black colour, just two swipes on the eyes is enough to get a nice pigmented black colour. Though it fared well on the ingredients part , as in my eyes did not sting when I applied but I was disappointed with the results, after one hour of application , the kajal had not only smeared but also it had run down on my under eye. My eyes looked like a paint brush tray in which black colour had been dissolved. It did not even stay for half an hour. These are the swatches:

biotique swatch

(Top: two swipes, bottom: one swipe)

Pros of the product:
1. Creamy texture glides on smoothly.
2. Travel Friendly.
3. No need to carry a sharpener along.
4. Nicely pigmented, gives jet black colour to the eyes.
5. It has herbal ingredients.

Cons of the product:
1. Not only it smudges, it flows down the eyes( this reason is enough to stop a person from purchasing it)
2. Flimsy cover.
3. The staying power is very poor.

Will I repurchase?
It’s a big NO for me and would advice the readers also not to try it.
IMBB Rating
1 out of 5(- 4 for smearing and +1 given for the herbal ingredients)
Love,
Shivani

Make your own Kajal / Kohl at home

Kohl

Kohl or Kajal is one of the first make up product that most girls learn to use. And rightly so, eyes are the window to the soul, and every girl has the right to dress up her ‘window’. While kohl is widely available in any part of the world, its ingredients are a mystery to all. Kohl brought from stores is heavily diluted and processed in chemicals.

Why home made kajal is better than commercial kajal / Kohl -
Today everything has changed; the commercially and industrially produced kajal is causing harmful effects on the eyes. Today no one produces the homemade pure kajal. Some of the impurities found in kajal are charcoal, which is added for getting dark colour, silver nitrate, which gives kajal a glow and if it is used more than 2%, it causes problems like irritation, burning and redness to the eyes and another impurity found is the lead content. Even the kajal container also is very often not sterilized and cause diseases like conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers.

Source

Do you eyes a favour, and make natural, chemical-free kajal !!

Ingredients –
1.	50 ml Til (sesame) oil OR pure cow ghee (preferably ghee over oil)

Stand

2.	1 Big Silver lamp that can accommodate 50 ml oil\ghee
(If silver is not available, any other lamp will do)

3.	1 long thick cotton wick
4.	1 copper plate (the ones used in poojas)

Procedure -
1.	Keep half tablespoon of ghee\oil aside, pour the rest into the lamp, put a wick and light the lamp.
2.	Place the copper plate on top of the lamp in such a position that the flame touches the plate. Fixate the position of the plate with the help of a stand.
3.	Place this lamp in a place with no wind blowing, let the lamp burn over night, or as long as the oil burns. This will approximately take 10 hours.
4.	When the oil is burnt, you will see a thick powdery black residue on the copper plate. This is the base of your kajal.
5.	Take the half teaspoon of oil you had kept aside in the start, and pour it into the black residue, drop by drop. Rub the residue and oil with one finger for a minute or two. Make the kohl as consistent as you want it. Ideally, it should have the consistency of eatable butter. Too thin and your kohl will smudge, too thick and it will be in lumps.
6.	Your kohl is ready to use. Put the kohl in an airtight box. Refrigerate it for 2-4 hours before the first use. Remove and store it at room temperature.
7.	Apply on your eyes.

Application –
Wash your face and hands. Take very little kajal / kohl on your finger, a q-tip or, as Courtney Cox does it, a match stick. Apply lightly on your eyes.
Home made kajal is VERY dark, so one of the ways to use it is, put heavily on eyes at night before going to sleep, wash your face in the morning\after bath, the remaining kajal leaves a beautiful , natural tint on your eyes, which no makeup artist can replicate.

Advantages & Disadvantages of home made kajal / kohl–
Advantages –

Extremely long lasting with no adulterants, undiluted and herbal.

Hygienic, healthy, and can be used for medicinal purposes too.

The colour that you get is pitch black, won’t fade as hours go by.

Disadvantages –

Possibility of smudging, especially on the skin is high.

Colour is so dark, that it might be hard to get out at the end of the day.

Beauty Use –
Home made kajal will be with you for years to come, it comes with no expiry dates. Women in small towns make kajal once every few years, and don’t have to worry about it finishing up fast. The reason why it remain for years and years, is because it is concentrated, so every time you use, you will just need literally one drop of kajal. Those of you who are big fans of dark eyes MUST make kajal at home . This kajal is best used on the upper water line and the lower waterline. You can use it on skin as well, but smudging is possible. Nevertheless, it just might work on your skin, so give it a try.

Kaajal

Medicinal Use –
If your eyes burn from all the pollution or for any other reason, Apply lightly at night before sleeping. Your eyes will water, washing away all the impurities in your eyes. You will feel a lot better.
Kajal is also said to improve eyesight. When you apply kajal, it massages the underside of the eyeballs, which in turn results in better blood circulation and hence, better eye sight.

Warning –
Home made kajal is made from pure ghee and lamp residue, which when applied on eyes, will burn your eyes, and water them. So be careful about applying it for the first time, apply VERY small amount. Get used to the burn for the first few times and then move on to heavy application.
The burning sensation is NOT BAD FOR YOU AT ALL, the burning just means that the impurities in your eyes are being worked upon, and watery eyes rinse away the impurities.

VlCC Kajal vs Lotus Herbals Natural Kajal vs Himalaya Kajal

I would like to give credit for this craze to IMBB. A little while ago I was not a kajal person. I am a liquid liner person for years but tried my hands on kajal long time back. But racoon eyes made me feel that I can really pass it and also I felt kajal made my eyes appear smaller. But not with the right style and better complexion and over all make up kajal can actually help my eyes look bigger. I don’t over do it for fear of smudging but I am now quite comfy with kajal. This article will basically be comparison between the features of these three kajals – VLCC, Lotus Herbals and Himalaya . You can pick according to preference.

Matte, more staying, very black

Why pick Lotus Herbals Kajal?

Staying, more quantity for lesser price, cooling effect and decent packaging, blackest of the lot

Why pick Himalaya Kajal?

For the ingredients. castor oil helps promote lash growth, this also mentions Hypoallergenic

No harmful chemicals and Opthalmologically tested

Camphor and almond oil are common to all three

Why not to pick VLCC Kajal?

For the price

Why not to pick up Lotus Kajal?

Umm could not think of anything

Why not to pick up Himalaya Kajal?

Oily sheen makes it sheer instead of dense and the packaging looks like cheap plastic. Himalaya also smudges most out of the three.

Ratings :

Lotus Herbals Kajal : :heart::heart::heart:

VLCC Kajal :heart::heart: :heart::heart:

I personally found the matte one to be better for me but you can pick according to requirement. Camphor has been used for years in Indian home made kajal of soot as it cools eyes. Almond oil is effective for dark circles under eyes. Triphala is also a cleanser for eyes. I found all the kajals to be easy to be applied on upper and lower lash line. Though it is sure to smudge if get the kajal between the lashes where it may accumulate and smudge through the day. I tried it on at upper waterline and went to bed but all smudged badly when I woke up. All these kajals are standard quality but choice varies as to the finish of the kajal and the brand.

What is Lotus herbals Natural kajal?
100% natural kajal that relaxes & soothes eyes through the day. Smudge-proof & long lasting, it contains botanical extracts of camphor & almond oil to pamper eyes & promote lash growth.

Price : Rs 115 (Indian Rupees)

Kajals make a staple part of my makeup routine. I have been using kajals/ surmas since childhood so to me, differentiating between one kajal to other becomes pretty easy. As far as cosmetic kajals go, I have used Lakme, Biotique kajal, Himalaya kajal, Shehnaz Hussain’s Kajal and Lotus Kajal. I would say Lotus’ is the the best Kajal I have come across.

It does not smudge on my eyes. A lot of people say it smudges on their eyes but it does not smudge on mine.

The camphor cools my tired-burning eyes after hours of working on computer.

Comes in a comfortable bullet packaging.

It gives a nice shine to my eyes.

I like the packaging.

It is very black, which I like.

My only problem with this kajal is that it comes with this tiny cover. The probability of losing it is pretty high and then my whole kajal is going to go for a waste.

Would I purchase this product again?

Heck, yes! This is my Holy Grail kajal.
