Pampering yourself would make you look and feel great. Hence, try to take some time out of your busy schedule to pamper yourself for a few minutes everyday, or at least every week! Who told you that pampering yourself goes hand in hand with lots and lots of money? Here are a few ideas by which you can pamper yourself on a budget:
• Spa experience at home- A spa experience is almost synonymous with pampering; but you can easily get a feel of spa in your own way at your home. This is going to be cost effective as well as convenient; you do not have to set aside a whole evening and thousands of rupees in order to hit the spa! Invest in a bottle of essential oil and use a few drops in your bathing water. Make sure that you put on some soothing music and light a few mild incense sticks. Lay your hands on a few spa candles. Make the room dark and light the candles. The fragrance of the incense sticks combined with the aroma of essential oils would create the perfect ambience for relaxation. Give yourself a body wash with your favorite shower gel and at the end of thirty minutes, you feel so luxuriously refreshed! You can get hold of a set bottle of essential oils, shower gel, candles and incense sticks at Rs 500 and the best part is that, they can be used at least ten times each! So, that comes to a meager Rs50 per spa-experience or even less! Now, does not that sound really budget-friendly?

• A Body Massage- Getting a body massage can be wonderful at the end of the hectic day! Ask your husband to give you a body massage and chances are that he would not disappoint you! A budget friendly idea it is since it is not going to cost you a paisa! A perfect way to wind out without shelling out any money; moreover, you get an awesome opportunity to get the much-desired private time with your beloved.

• A facial at home- Give yourself a facial at home. We all have a basic nourishing cream, a cleanser, a facial scrub, a face mask and a toner at home. If you find that a tub of cream is all that you have ready at hand when it comes to basic beauty products, go for the most readily available kitchen ingredients to pamper yourself. Cleanse your face with combination of milk and turmeric, scrub your face with a lemon-sugar scrub, make a face mask with a fruit base depending upon the kind of skin you are blessed with and finally, tone your skin with cucumber juice, rosewater or tomato juice, whichever is available! This rich and lush facial session is going to cost you not more than Rs. 50!

• Sleep- If you are one of those busy persons who has little time to sleep, get a day off (from office, kitchen, motherly responsibilities and wifely responsibilities) by hook or by crook and sleep! Sleep throughout the day and all night! This pampering session comes free, no money matters involved!

• Movies and food- Are you a movie-buff? Get hold of your favorite DVDs (movies can also be downloaded, if that is a cheaper option) and spend the whole day watching movies! Order the cheese burst pizza that you like best or chicken tandoori that makes you drool! Get them delivered at your doorstep and enjoy! For a more cost effective and healthier option, munch on your preferred chicken or fruit salad you have made at home while watching a film. This pampering session would come within a range of Rs30 to Rs200, depending upon the options that you choose.

With these easy ideas, you can not only make yourself feel pampered, but also de-stress yourself and make yourself look great! And never feel guilty for having set some time aside for yourself; remember that you DESERVE it!

How to Become Fair Naturally

Indians have always held a fascination for fair skin. Our dusky and olive skin tones have better sun-protecting abilities than what fair skin offers. Yet, we make a deep association of fair complexion with beauty. So what can you do to lighten your skin tone and become fair? Read on.

1. If you have a bathtub, then pour two cups of whole cream milk into the water, add a lemon and throw in a couple handfuls of ground oats. While you soak in the warm water, the natural skin bleaching properties of milk and lemon will work away at your skin. Oats have exfoliating, nourishing as well as lightening qualities. You will see your overall skin tone become fairer by doing this twice a week for a month.

In case you do not have a bath tub, then you can soak some freshly cut lemon slices in a cup of milk, strain after an hour, add two spoons of rosewater and thicken with yoghurt. This paste can be used as a natural skin whitening cream.

2. Exfoliate your face regularly. Dead cell buildup makes the skin look dull and darker than it really is. Allow fresh skin cells to grow by timely removal of dead skin, and you’ll see a natural glow. If you want to become fair naturally, exfoliation should become a regular part of your beauty regime.
3. When you choose your daily use skin creams, look for an ingredient called hydroquinone. This is a melanin inhibitor. Melanin is responsible for pigmentation in our skin and inhibiting it makes us look fair. When you use a cream with this ingredient, you must never forget to apply sunscreen outdoors, because hydroquinone reduces skin’s melanin content, making us more prone to sun-damage.
4. You can bleach tanned areas such as the face, neck and even hands and feet with one of the cosmetic bleaches available in the market to become fair.
5. Swimming in chlorinated water regularly (but not in the sun) will also lighten overall body skin tone as chlorine is a bleaching agent.
6. Make a face pack with turmeric, olive oil and ground gram flour (besan) and use on a regular basis for exfoliating and lightening complexion. Turmeric also adds a golden glow to the face, which helps you become fairer.
7.For a fair complexion, mix equal amounts of egg white and lemon juice. Heat on a frying pan till it thickens. Cool in the refrigerator. Applying this paste on your face and neck daily will show a gradual lightening of skin.
8. Mash a few quarter of a cucumber along with the skin. Apply this paste all over face and neck and keep for 20 mins before rinsing.
9. Honey, milk, lemon, oatmeal and brown sugar can be combined to make an excellent fairness scrub at home.
10. Another great recipe for fair skin is fennel seeds brewed in water. Fennel seeds are commonly known as saunf in India. You must boil 2 tsps of saunf in a glass of water for an hour on low flame. The water will reduce significantly by this time. Strain out the saunf and add a tbsp of buttermilk or curd whey to this preparation. Apply all over face and neck. Rinse off after 15 mins.
11. Use the pulp of papaya to cleanse twice a week to become fair. Or you can use premade papaya face packs and face washes by popular cosmetic companies. But fresh is always better.
12. Buy a serum containing vitamin C to regularly dab on your face for a fair look. Vitamin C is a natural bleach. The natural alternative to this is lemon, used in most face packs for fair skin, for it is a great source of vitamin C. Applying a mix of lemon juice and yoghurt once daily can show results in as little as two weeks.
13. Always use a good sunscreen of adequate SPF content as per the sun conditions of wherever you stay to maintain your fair complexion. In summers, one usually needs SPF 40 to 60 depending on the harshness of the sun and your exposure to it. Even in cloudy weather, a minimum of SPF 20 is required in most Indian cities.
14. Incorporating many fruits and veggies in your diet and drinking tons of water will ensure you get the right vitamins and antioxidants essential for healthy and fair skin. Dull and dry skin tends to look darker. Keep your skin hydrated if you want to appear fair.
15. Consuming fish oil capsules or eating flaxseeds will nourish your skin with omega fatty acids and keep it younger-looking, fresh and supple. Healthy skin is a must if you wish to become fair, because faults and damage show much more on fair complexions.

Lip Glosses: Lip glosses are my saviour. I have been using them since I was 14-15. Some of the lip glosses you can check out are:

1. Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss: Rs.250.
2. Maybelline Watershine Liquid Diamonds: Rs.180.
3. Lakme Lip gloss: Rs.175. These are available in tubes. Only bad thing is that only three colours are available- Strawberry, Vanilla and Bubblegum. A must-have, according to me.
4. Elle 18 Colorbomb Lip Smoothies: Rs.85. Six shades of these lip glosses are available. But I don’t recommend them. They kind of disappoint.
5. Colorbar Star Shine Lip Gloss: Rs.225.
6. Colorbar Juicy Candy Lipgloss: Rs.199.
7. Lotus Herbals Tinted Lipgloss: Rs.225.

I have used only Maybelline Watershine lipsticks, only because they are more like a gloss than lipsticks (you can buy them if you don’t mind the gloss-instead-of-lipstick thing, they are for Rs.230). However, some lipstick suggestions are:

2. Maybelline Color Sensational moisture Rich Lipcolor: Rs.220.
3. Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipsticks: Rs.225.

Lipbalm: Lipbalms are an absolute necessity for everyone. Whether you apply lipstick or gloss, it is always advisable to rub some balm onto your lips before that.
1. Nivea Lip Balm: Available in various fruit flavours (Nivea Fruit Shine), Liquid Care gloss or plain balms, they are every lip balm-lover’s favourite. Price: Rs.89-Rs.159.
2. Maybelline Lip Smooth: Rs.99. Available in 6 flavours.
3. Lipice Lipblam: Plain fruit flavoured balm (Rs.120) or Sheer Color ‘Magic” Balm (Rs.190).

NAILS

Nothing can beat coloured nails. Whether they are glittery shades or shimmery shades or bright neon ones, they are sure to add oomph and spunk to your look. Every brand has their own nail paints and nail paints are mostly below Rs.300. But the cheapest among them are:

1. Maybelline Colorama Nail Paint: Rs.85.
2. Elle 18 Colorbomb Nail Pops: Rs.45.
3. Streetwear Nail Enamel: Rs.45-Rs.90.
4. Lakme Nail enamel: Rs.90.

However, if you are willing to extend the budget a little , do checkout Colorbar, Revlon and Maybelline Express Finish Nail Polishes.

OTHERS

1. Makeup Remover: Maybelline Eye and Lip Make-up Remover- Rs.190.

2. Nail Polish Remover: Lakme Nail Color Remover (Rs.49), Colorbar Nail Polish Remover (Rs.50).

3. Brushes: Vega Brushes- They are easily available. Price: Starts from Rs.50 (depending on the brush).

Apart from these, Avon (Simply Pretty range) and Oriflame have pretty inexpensive stuff, but since you need a consultant for them, I didn’t mention them.

Sun is essential to us all living beings. Sun rays are an essential revitaliser, they help in the formation of vitamin D agreed, agreed, agreed to it all. But, over-exposure to sun rays can also lead to many problems and sun burn or tan is the most common. Though, face tan is considered beautiful in foreign countries yet in India fair skin scores over it. People do whatever they can to get rid of face tan as soon as possible.

Tips to get rid of face tan:

• Mix sesame seed oil, olive oil and almond oil in the ratio of 4:1:1. Apply it on your skin and let it stay for 20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water using gram flour or a mild soap. This is one of the most effective natural remedy to get rid of face tan.
• Mix cucumber paste with lemon juice and fuller’s earth. Apply it on your face for 15 minutes and then wash it off. It is an excellent anti-tan pack.
• Lettuce juice can be used in packs to remove sun tan.
• Apply raw potato juice on your face to remove the face tan.
• Mix together some gram flour and curd. Add few drops of fresh lemon juice. Apply it on the skin for 15 minutes and then wash it off. Use this pack regularly for few weeks to get rid of sun tan.

• Make a paste using turmeric with a little unboiled milk and lemon juice. Apply it on the skin, it will help in removing tan.
• Take 2 tablespoons vinegar and add 2 tablespoons of water in it. Mix well and dab on gently with cotton wool over sore areas. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash off. This solution is an ideal cure for suntan.
• Take 2 tablespoons of honey and add to it the juice of one lime. Mix well apply over the sunburned or tanned skin areas.

• You can apply buttermilk on your skin twice daily, for about 20 minutes each time. This will cool the skin and help revitalize it.
• A mixture of tomato juice and curd can also be applied to the face or body. Tomatoes have several healing qualities, and curd has millions of good bacteria that help the skin glow.
• Mix together 5 tablespoons of rosewater and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply this mixture to the affected area before you go to bed. Wash it off the next morning. This helps to get rid of the tan.
• Make a paste of saffron powder or turmeric powder and lemon juice. Apply it on face and let it stay on your face for some time. Wash with normal water.
• Apply the juice of tomato with a little lemon juice. Wash it off after 20 minutes with cold water. This will help to remove the sun tan. Continue this treatment for at least 15 days.

This is my very first IMBB blog post and I am soooo Excited…!!!

My this post will cater to all those teenage girls who search the internet frantically for suitable make-up products under a fixed budget. This is because when I first decided to start with make-up (all thanks to IMBB), I couldn’t understand what all to buy: there were too many awesome options and they would burn a big hole in my (as well as my dad’s) pocket! After all, we don’t exactly get enough pocket money to buy ourselves a MAC or Inglot product.

Well, young ladies….have no fear, IMBB is here; I will name all the suitable products you might need and can use for the time-being till you save up for your first MAC haul. And each of these products is below Rs.300.

FACE

Foundation:
1. Lacto Calamine Lotion- At such a young age, one doesn’t really need any foundation. I recommend Lacto Calamine Lotion, which you will get in any chemist or cosmetic shop for Rs.80 (for dry to normal skin) or Rs.72 (for normal to oily skin). They are tinted and also prevents acne.
2. Lakme Invisible Foundation- If Lacto Calamine doesn’t fulfill your requirement, this will surely do. Though the staying is average, this is the best and cheapest foundation that you can get. Price: Rs.185.
3. Lakme Silk Naturelle Foundation: This comes in a tube and is better than the Lakme IF, leaving a more smooth feeling. Price: Rs.275.
4. Lakme Daily Wear Soufflé: I don’t really recommend this but if you are willing to risk Rs.99, then go for it. It might work for you.

Lakme Invisible Finish Foundation

Face Powder/Compact: A must for me, it helps giving me a smooth finish and also prevents to much sweating of your face. Dab on before you rush to college or party or concerts and experience a sweat-free face.
1. Lakme Perfect Radiance Skin Lightening Compact: Rs.150. The best bet.
2. Colorbar Time Plus Compact Powder: Rs.150. Colorbar cosmetics never disappoint.
3. Streetwear Girl Magic Pressed Powder: Rs.70. Though I did not use it myself, I have read the IMBB review and have decided to give it a try. Rs.70.

My Pick: Lakme Perfect Radiance Skin Lightening Compact. (shown below)

Blush: I was never a fan of blushes, but after using it for the first time, I simply fell in love with the whole idea of blushes. A quick pinch of colour on your face will immediately change your complete look.
1. Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Blush: This creamy blush is the cheapest you can find. Though quantity is less, it won’t disappoint you and you will rush to buy it again once it’s over. Only sad part is there are only two colours available. Rs.190.
2. Maybelline Expert Wear Blush: Rs.209.
3. Colorbar Blush: Rs.250. With six awesome shades to choose from, these powder blushes not only have a sufficient amount of product, they also have a huge fan-following.

EYES

Kohl: Nowadays, each and every drug/cosmetic company has got a kohl of its own. The Kohl has been worn traditionally as far the Bronze Age (3500 B.C. onward) by the Egyptian queens. It was originally used as protection against eye ailments. There was also a belief that darkening around the eyes would protect one from the harsh rays of the sun. India’s oldest caste, the koli, used kohl as a cosmetic. In addition, mothers would apply kohl to their infants’ eyes soon after birth. Some did this to “strengthen the child’s eyes”, and others believed it could prevent the child from being cursed by the evil eye (from Wikipedia) :-P. So much for the theory, all in all, Kohl’s are the very first thing every girl uses when she is about to with make-up. The Best. The Ultimate.
1. Maybelline Colossal Kajal: Rs.150.
2. Lakme Black Satin Kajal: Rs.150.
3. Colorbar Kajal: Rs.99.
4. Elle 18 Kajal: Rs.65.
5. Himalaya Kajal: Rs.105.
6. VLCC Kajal: Rs.135.
7. Lotus Herbals Kajal: Rs.115.

Eye Pencils/Eyeliners: These beauties are a must have for everyone. Collect as many colours as you can, you will never regret it. A little bit of colour on your eyes and you are sure to turn a thousand heads.

1. Maybelline Vivid and Smooth Eye Studio Pencils:At Rs. 200 per pencil, you are sure to fall in love with them. They are soft and creamy, water-proof and smudge-proof. Available in 11 colours, ranging from gold to pink to ice blue and sea green, they are a must have in your make-up bag.
2. Chambor Contour Kohl Pencil: Rs. 225. Chambor, one of the semi-luxury brands have these beautiful eye-pencils in dark colours. The only problem is that they smudge and bleed a little.
3. Lakme Glide On Eye Pencil: Rs. 275. With 7 cool colours doing the rounds, you might just wish to check them out.
4. Elle 18 Colorbomb Eye Sparklers: At Rs.85, they are dirt cheap and not very good (you know, “Itna Paise mein, Itna hi milega”), but you can pick up all the five colours they have. Its good when you want to just look at yourself in the mirror at home and don’t really care much about the staying power.
5. Lotus Hypnotica Eye Contour Pencil: Rs. 199.
6. Colorbar I-define Pencils: Rs.250. I haven’t used them (all thanks to their elder brother, the super-duper I-glide pencils) but they shouldn’t be bad.

Note: If you are willing to extend your budget a little for eye pencils, then I strongly recommend Colorbar I-glide Pencils (Price: Rs.325). They have over seven-eight shades and are the best pencils I have tried till date. Once you use them, you won’t feel like using anything else. Also, Chambor Stay-On Eye Pencils at Rs.370 are a pretty good buy.

Black Liquid Liner: Another must-have in your bag, you never know when it might come of use.
1. Lakme Instant Black Liner: At lower than Rs.80, the Lakme liner has befriended millions of Indian women since time immemorial.
2. Elle 18 Colorbomb Blackout Liner: Rs.65.
3. Maybelline Ultra Liner: Rs.225.
4. Lotus Herbals Opulence Botanical Eyeliner: Rs.180.

My Pick: Lakme Instant Liner.

Coloured Liquid Liners: I have got limited knowledge in these. I have only used Lakme and Colorbar Liners.
1. Lakme Jeweltone Liner: Rs.275. Four colours available.
2. Lakme 9 to 5 Intense Shine Eyeliner: Rs.245.
3. Colorbar Waterproof Eyeliner: Rs.195. Available colours are Black, Blue and Brown, but Blue and Brown are never available.
4. Lakme Fantasy Collection Shimmer Eyeliner: Rs.275. These are limited edition shimmery eyeliner in 8 super shades. I suggest pick them all.

My Pick: Lakme Fantasy Collection Shimmer Liner (Note: Since these are from the Lakme Spring-Summer Range, they will be available only for a limited time. Try to grab them fast).

Mascara: I have used only one kind, and I have very satisfied with it- Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara: Available in two varieties; Waterproof (Rs.275) and not-Waterproof (Rs.265).

Eyeshadow: If you are thinking about those huge multi-coloured palettes, then I can’t really help you. But one thing I know is that you can get them cheap in eBay or other online shops, no guarantee about the quality though. I have only used Streetwear cream Eyeshadows.

There are no basic rules which you have to follow while fringing your T-shirt, shirt or any other piece of clothing you are bored with. Decorating t-shirts by using carefully placed cuts can be fun and interesting!

All you need is a sharp knife or scissors, a cutting board or other material that won’t be damaged by your cutting and your imagination.

However, one thing to keep in mind before you go on with your job is to remember getting rid of hem of your T-shirt. After all you do not want any thing hindering you while you are engrossed in creating your masterpiece.

As far as I am concerned I’ll be more than happy to cut a T-shirt but can never ever wear something like that.

Though this fashion clothing originated in the 1960’s it was only in 1980’s that it became a hit among masses. Following are few tips that will help you get the right look with this fashion craze.

• Always remember that leggings are not trousers. Don’t use them as an alternative to trousers and never ever wear them with sweatshirt or short tops until and unless you want to end up looking half naked.
• Avoid wearing short and tight fitting tops with leggings. Leggings are already well fitted, so you do not have to opt for a tight fitting top.
• Play around with proportions and decide which length looks best on you. Leggings that hit mid-calf might look adorable on a tall, skinny girl, but might make a shorter leg look wide.

• Leggings can look tacky with the wrong footwear. Pair them with flat shoes, like –ballet style, boat shoes, moccasins, low-heeled boots, and even oxfords, they all look totally chic with leggings.
• Pay extra attention to your top if you are women with a short physique. While opting for a top make sure that it doesn’t fall beyond the mid-thigh, otherwise it will look as if you are wearing the leggings underneath a complete dress. Also, stay away from cropped leggings as they will make you look even shorter.
• If you’re heavier on the bottom, choose black leggings paired with a bright top which will attract the attention to your face instead of your bottom area.
• For a perfect everyday wear, go for a pair of calf-length leggings with loose-fitting top, somewhere between mid-thigh or knee length.

• Short skirt with leggings is most popular among people. Choose a denim or corduroy mini skirt and pair it with leggings in a coordinating colour. Pleated mini skirt also goes well with a pair of leggings.
• While wearing a shirt with your leggings always remember that, it should be long and have some volume to balance out the tightness of your bottoms. Dolman sleeve tops, for example, are perfect with leggings.
• Pair them with accessories to make a right impact.

According to doctors weak stomach muscles lead to poor posture which, in turn, is responsible for lower back pain, sciatica, joint pain and inflammation. So, flattening your abdomen be it before or after childbirth is not only essential for looking good but also for your overall health.

Generally, you should not begin serious abdominal work until your pelvic floor is strong again. At two months after childbirth, you can begin abdominal work, starting with floor exercises. if you’ve had a C-Section, stick to floor exercises for about eight months. Avoid exercises done while lying on your back with both legs in the air.

Test how ready are you for exercises?

Lie on your back with your head on the floor. Place your hands behind your neck and slowly lift your head toward the ceiling. Hold that position, now place a finger just above the belly button and press down gently. Generally you will feel a gap in between the muscles. See how many fingers (if any) you can get into the space. It will determine your abdominal muscle gap – if it is one finger then you may do all the exercises – if it is two or more you need to be really careful.

Exercises to reduce your tummy:

• Single-leg circle: Lie on the mat with your arms by your sides and your palms facing down. Raise your left leg toward the ceiling, and rotate it slightly outward. Inhale, and trace a circle on the ceiling with your left leg. Moving your whole leg, but keeping your hips still. Trace the circle 5 times in a clockwise direction and then 5 times in anti-clockwise direction. Switch legs and repeat 5 times.

• Abdominal crunches: Place your hands behind your head or crossed in front of you whichever is more comfortable. Bend your knees and keep your feet flat on the floor. When you raise up, be sure you are exhaling and when you lower your back, be sure to inhale. Pay attention to your breath as it will help you train muscles and makes the crunch much more effective. Perform 2-3 sets of 20-25 repetitions. You should really feel your abs working by the time you get close to 20.

• To strengthen the muscles which help you do sideways bending, the position should be lying on your back with one leg straight and the other knee bent. Your hand should be lying gently on your stomach just above the straight leg. Now, try lengthening the straight leg by stretching your heel taking care not to move your bent knee. Keeping your knee straight and shortening the leg, pull your heel slowly towards you and feel the muscle tighten under your hand. Relax and repeat with the other leg.

The flabby bits on the sides of your abs are called love handles. More than love they indicate too much body fat. Start losing some body fat if you want to get rid of love handles.

Apart from the exercises some basic tips should be kept in mind while losing body fat. These include:

•Never skip breakfast: After the whole night starvation our body needs energy in the morning, so whatever we eat will be burned down and stored in the form of fat by or body.
•Eat in moderation: Do not deprive yourselves from the pleasure of eating food but instead try to eat in moderation. Eat small meals six times a day this helps to control blood sugar and thus makes loosing weight easier. Do not eat too little as it would have a negative impact on your body. Nutritional requirements of a body must always be fulfilled.
•Avoid late night eating: Never eat food right before going to bed or after a long period of inactivity as doing so generate our body’s mechanism for storing fat.
•Drink water: Always drink a glass of water before your meals as it will help to fill the stomach and enable you to reach higher level of satisfaction with relatively less food.
•Avoid fatty food: This goes without saying. Pastries, ice creams, rice, curd, milk products like cheese, etc should be avoided. Cut down on red meat and deep fried meals.

Exercises to get rid of love handles:

Trunk Twist:

•Stand with your feet apart (at shoulder width) and your knees slightly bent.
•Place your hands in front of as if you’re about to push something away.
•Twist your torso to the left, while keeping your hips and legs as stable as possible.  Now twist all the way around to the right.
•Try to do 100 reps of this exercise.

Lying Leg Twist

•Lie on your back, with your arms stretched out to your sides.
•Bend your knees at the 90 degree angle and raise your legs up.
•Lower your legs to the left side, so that your left, outer thigh touches the ground.
•Now bring your legs up and lower them down to the right. Do 3 sets of 10 reps per side.

Twist crunches

•Lie on your back with your knees bent.
•Lift your head up slightly and place your hands behind without locking your fingers together.
•Twist to the right bringing your left elbow to your right knee. Extend your left leg out. Do the same while twisting at the right side.

Bending exercise:

•Stand up with your feet shoulder width apart. Fold arms and hold the dumbbells close to your body.
•Flex your hips and legs to make sure your legs remain still while bending sideways.
•Bend to the left from the waist only and extend your right hand to the left. Return to the start position and bring the arm back to the body.
•Bend to the right in the same way and extend your left hand to the right.

Get a Hula-Hoop and Hula Hoop for at least 30 minutes daily to get rid of love handles.

Although there is nothing you can do to prevent tarnishing, taking proper care of your jewellery can prolong this process. Following are some easy things to do:

Reduce the duration for which you wear the jewellery: Make your jewellery the last thing you put on in the morning, and the first thing you take off at night.
Reduce exposure to chemicals: Remove your jewellery when cleaning, swimming and taking a shower. The chemicals used during these activities could cause immediate tarnishing.
Reduce wear and tear: Always remove your jewellery when sleeping. Friction and movement during sleep can cause stress.
Proper Storage: Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place. Always store your silver jewellery in tarnish prevention cloths or bags. The treated cloth of such bags, slows down the tarnishing process and keeps the jewellery from rubbing against harder jewellery that might scratch it.
Cleaning: Wipe your jewellery clean with a soft cloth before returning it to storage to remove any body oils and dirt. Never let your jewellery soak in water, as it could corrode the silver. If it does get wet, make sure you dry it completely immediately.
Polishing: To restore the brand new sheen and polish in your silver jewellery, take it to a jeweller and get it repolished.
Repair: With normal daily wear wired silver jewellery like necklaces, anklets, bracelets etc will eventually need replacing. You may want to have your jewellery periodically restrung to prevent breakage or loss.

Proper care will make your silver jewellery last a lifetime. After all, what can be a better heirloom?
