Jordana Lipsticks in Shade Amber, Bronze and All Spicy

Hi Dear IMBB Readers,

Recently, I had to attend a marriage function and suddenly I realized that most of the lipsticks I own are suited either for day wear, office wear or at the max, beach wear. I didn’t have the staple party colors for desi wedding- bright reds, coppery oranges or flashy purples. I adjusted with a shimmery gloss and decided I will get a proper party color soon. That is when I spotted these shades in Coollifeshop.  I have not seen Jordana products anywhere else including stores and for a brief time on an Indian online shopping site.

I got this for 134 INR each from coollifeshop though the price mentioned in website is $1.49.

Amber is described as Orange Copper shade and Bronze is a true bronze-y shade, both with pearl reflective shine finish. All Spicy is described as a gold-toned peach shade with both pearl as well as duo-toned luster finish. I am assuming by duo-toned luster, they imply multiple shade effects for the color.

Packaging:

This is an okay-looking cheap plastic package with transparent cap that helps in deciding the color.

My Experience with Jordana Lipsticks in Shade Amber, Bronze and All Spicy:

When I first tried these out, the first thing I noticed is the fruity smell. This smells like watermelon plus some other fruit and reminds me of fruity-tasting bubble-gums. I kind of like the smell and it doesn’t stay for long. The next thing that I noticed was that these lipsticks are kind of waxy and so not-creamy that I have no idea why they claim this is creamy. I can compare this with the feel of a crayon pencil, though may be a little softer than crayon. This glides smoothly enough over lips if I apply a lip balm first, else it feels too dry on bare lips. All the 3 shades are decently pigmented.

Amber is a true coppery orange shade that is very good along with ethnic dressing and is very good for night wear and the shimmer is not at all over the top.  This can be easily built upon and looks really good when the eye makeup is muted and emphasis is on lips. It can either be used for casual outing to give a bright pop of color with a single swipe or a jewel-toned look for night wear. This shade will best suit dark-toned skins and might look a bit garish for fair skins.

Bronze is a much pigmented brownish coppery bronze-y shade that would suit any skin tone and is a must-have shade for party wears; it goes with any dress – ethnic or western.

All Spicy is a peachy shade with golden shimmers that shows pinkish tints on lips. The peachy undertones are quite muted and on layering give a very beautiful pinkish look. This goes sheer on a single swipe and can be easily built upon. I like this color best for casual outings and day wears as the pinkish shade plus golden shimmers makes this is a very summery shade. This again would suit most skin tones, except very dark skin tones. I think this will show up best on non-pigmented clear lips.

Now comes the best part, these are very long lasting! Surprised? I was too! I didn’t expect it from a 1$ product, but when I checked my makeup after 3 hours and one meal, the color (Amber shade) was still on and didn’t look much faded at all. I re-applied it with a single swipe and it lasted for another 3 hours! I didn’t expect this from All Spicy which is a paler shade, but shockingly the shade lasted for 3+ hours. So now, this is my go-to lipsticks when I need long-stay lip colors and want to experiment with colors.

Pros of Jordana Lipsticks in Shade Amber, Bronze and All Spicy:

• Good number of shades to select from.
• Not very expensive.
• Long lasting color which exceeds expectations!
• I like the fruity fragrance.
• Shimmers are not at all over the top.

Cons of Jordana Lipsticks in Shade Amber, Bronze and All Spicy:

• Drying effect on the lips.
• Waxy feel on the lips.
• Nonavailability in India.
• Cheap-looking packaging.
• Doesn’t exactly match the claim of being creamy, Jordana should change the claim to “Long stay”!

Overall Rating:

4 out of 5 (0.5 for drying effect and 0.5 for waxy feeling).

Will I Buy Again?

Of course yes, I think these lipsticks have in them all that is expected from an inexpensive lipstick, i.e., decent pigmentation plus decent staying power. In fact, I think for a cheap lipstick like this, staying power is really good. I am planning to experiment with some shades I’ve not yet tried like Black Cherry and Raspberry.

Honey  (left ) is a lighter shade of Revlon Colorburst lipstick peach. It is sort of sheer and you’d have to so quite a few swipes for the colour to actually show. Those with pigmented lips, stay away from this one.

Blossom (right) is a nude brown lipstick with golden sheen. Again, not very pigmented.

There are 5 new shades launched in Colorbar Long Wear Lipstick. I liked this shade range more than the previous one, which included mostly browns. The lipstick shades are 09 Plum dressing, 10 chocoholics, 11 get ready, 07 kiss me, 08 keep blushing.

09 Plum Dressing :

Plum dressing lipstick is a deep wine coloured lipstick. On swatching,  it doesn’t come as dark as it looks in the tube.Surprisingly it looked quite a wearable shade.

As the name says, it’s a chocolate brown lipstick without any hint of shimmer or shine.

It’s a bright tomato coloured lipstick. It so much reminded me of MAC Heartless Lipstick.

Kiss me is a every day beige brown lipstick. For some it would be nude lipstick and for some it would be my lips but better shade.

I loved this shade.. It ‘s a cool toned soft pink with a hint of mauve. Umm. a little like MAC Cosmo Lipstick.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Naturel Lipstick range has two more new shades in the collection. The store didn’t have the testers for these lipsticks so could take only photos and not swatches. Hope you get shade ideas atleast.

Review & Swatches of Marks and Spencer’s per una lipsticks-Shade 20 & 34

Marks & Spencer is one of the UK’s leading retailers with over 21 million people visiting their stores each week which sell clothing, food and home ware and work hard to provide their customers with the highest quality products, service and shopping environments.

If I have to associate with Marks & Spencer, then it would be for clothing & Accessories but it’s not a place I would have associated with my make-up purchasing until I got its makeup set from one of my relatives staying in England. The makeup bag included a Foundation, Bronzer, 2 Lipsticks with matching Nail paints, a bottle of Perfume, 2 eye shadows, a Blush, Highlighter pearls and an eye lash curler all from M&S. Out of these, I have already finished the foundation & the nail paints. Rest everything I’m still happily using.

So today, I’ve come up with a review of the 2 lipsticks from Marks & Spencer. The 2 shades which I own don’t have a name tag but just a number associated with it. I tried looking for the same shades in nail paints as maybe they have discontinued this packaging and came to the conclusion that they are Valentine and Raspberry according to their website. These are:-

34 – A nude shade with brown undertones (Valentine).
20 –A dark pink shade (Raspberry).

Small description given by the company:-Soft and creamy texture of the lipstick. Hypo-allergenic Carmine free and Animal Free – no ingredients of animal origin as the company is strictly against animal testing.

Now, they come under the brand “per una” owned by Marks & Spencer . The 3 cute little hearts on the lipstick cover is “per una’s logo”. My say on these lipsticks is that they are quite nice, different from the usual shades which I see/ own in other cosmetic brands. They are super pigmented and applying a single coat leaves the lips in full color. They are very creamy in texture and glides easily on the lips. After applying them, my lips feel hydrated and moistened. The shades are a bit frosty. They have their own shine so I don’t apply any gloss over them. Their lasting power is also high. Easily stay on the lips for 5 hrs or so without having food. Both the shades are quite wearable either during day or night. While one is a bright pink shade which lights up my face, the other nude brown color suits Smokey/dark eye makeup. I am not a big fan of “nudes” but I used to wear this soft brown shade a lot at my office (when I used to work). You can easily make that out by the amount of lipstick left.

I can’t say anything about their price right now because I got them as gifts and I am not able to find this packaging of Marks & Spencer lipsticks online even but the same shades can be seen in the other Marks & Spencer lipsticks. They are not available in India still, I’ve not seen them in Marks & Spencer outlets here, but can be purchased online at http://www.marksandspencer.com and even www.ciao.co.uk Marks & Spencer lipsticks price range is between 2.50£ – 9.50 £ for 4 gms of product(around 185 to 700 Rs).

Good Points about Marks & Spencer Una Lipstick

• Very moisturising. Lips feel quite supple after applying.
• Great color pay-off. One swipe is enough to give pigmentation.
• The packaging is sleek yet sturdy. I love the 3 cute hearts on the silver cover.
• No need to apply gloss separately as they have their own shine.
• No drying up of this product- Even after owning them for around 3 years, they still look & feel the same.
• Good lasting power. One can use a good cleanser/makeup remover to easily remove them.
• Product is not tested on animals.
• They don’t have any kind of strange smell or taste.
• One can find different yet beautiful shades of lipsticks ranging from lower to higher range.

Bad points about Marks & Spencer Una Lipstick

• Not available in India. Have to be purchased online but all products are not shipped to India.
• High delivery charges. Company charges around 10£ as shipping charges so its costly.
• Don’t try to match up the shades with your dressed. You won’t succeed coz shades are quite different from the color of clothing which Indian women wear/get.
• Only shade number provided but their website now shows shade name so difficult to get the perfect match.

Rest is all good. These are classic beauties which need to be part of everyone’s makeup set. You’ll love them instantly. One can easily find great reviews of M&S lipsticks online.
Will I repurchase them: Definitely if ever I get a chance to have them here in India through my cousins again.

Choosing lipsticks is based on many different factors and, depending on what you are after, it can be very daunting. You need to choose regarding your skin tone, lasting power, moisturizing power and the list could go on. Below is a quick and easy guide with some number 1 recommendations for your next lipstick expedition.

First we should distinguish lipsticks by learning the types of lipsticks.

Long-wearing Lipsticks: These are the lipsticks that claim to stay all day through the kisses and everyday wear. If you’ve used one of these you know that’s not the case. Don’t waste your money, there are cheaper and easier ways to help any lipstick last through-out the rough wear and tear. A small tip to keep your lipstick lasting longer is apply your first coat, then dab your lips with a tissue and then apply another coat. This will hopefully intensify the color while keeping it on. Matte lipsticks, tend to stay on longer than shimmery so opt for matte if your after long lasting. Another at-home tip is, once you have applied your lipstick, brush a tiny amount of foundation powder over your lips. This will give a great finish to your lip color while locking in the staying power.

Matte Lipsticks: These lipsticks usually contain kaolin as a primary ingredient for staying power and give lipsticks a no shine, no grease texture. These lipsticks tend to be drying, but if you’re looking for staying power, matte is a good option. Matte is also great for day time wear as it is not shiny.

Sheer/Stain Lipsticks: The pigmentation of sheers and stains is not very high. They tend to be more moisturizing then other types of lipsticks. They also tend to wear easy but leave a nice hint of color. Sheer / stain lipsticks are great for day wear, something light and moisturizing while your on the job.

Moisturizing Lipsticks: These contain lots of conditioning ingredients such as shea butter. These lipsticks tend to wear off easy due to the moisturizing ingredients in them but if you have dry lips, always place a lip balm on before applying your lipstick. This also will help prevent lipstick staining on your natural lip color. Have you ever worn a lipstick all night, especially a brightly shaded one and then when its time to remove it, it still leaves a slight stain to your lips? Well use a lip balm before, or you can rub a small amount of you foundation on your lips before applying. These old school remedies work swell!

Now this is one of the most important points when choosing your lipstick color. It all comes down to your skin complexion. But by all means if you enjoy wearing a certain color that doesn’t match your skin complexion, then keep on wearing it.

Dark Skin Tone– is best to wear lip colors that contain more pigment such as rich, dark toffee colors, deep plums and reds with a blue undertone. This one to the right is a number one choice for dark skin tone. MAC- Pro Long wear Lip Crème / Extended Play Color. Cost usually $40.00 – $50.00 US dollars.

Fair Skin Tone– great to choose berry shades, true reds and reds with blue undertones. Also a great option is to go for a softer look with peachy and beige undertones. This skin tone is marginally popular, so finding a color for this skin tone is easy. Another popular lipstick is – MAC – Venomous Villains Lipstick / Innocence Beware Color. Cost $40.00 – $50.00 US Dollars

Medium Skin Tone- its great to wear deep reds, with a yellow undertone to really brighten up a medium skin. Sheers, creams and ,mattes can also be used with using many pink, rich and deep colors on this skin tone. A great color by MAC is – Lipstick – Color – Fabby. Cost $40.00 – $50.00 US Dollars

As well as judging what color you should wear with your skin tone you can also classify a completion by warm and cool.

Cool Undertones
Women with medium skin tones and cool undertones may have a very faint pink tint to their cheeks or may even have pale cheeks.

Warm Undertones
Those with medium skin tones with warm undertones may have a yellow, beige, peach or gold hue to their skin.
One easy way to determine your undertone is by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If the veins look blue, you’re likely a ‘cool’. If the veins appear greenish, you’re likely a ‘warm’.

Have you ever brought a lipstick then gotten it home and tried it again, and hated it? Well, well never fear, the worst thing you can do is throw it away. So just hold your horses. The best way to mix lipsticks is by experimenting, with all your colors. Add darker colors to lighter colors, complete opposite colors together and you will be very surprised at what your out come will be. Another little trick that I use if I really don’t like the lipstick color is mix a little of lipstick with a small amount of eye-shadow. It makes a great, long lasting lip color, which you didn’t have to purchase. You can have a different color of lipstick everyday!!! Fab!!!!

Lipstick can be a tricky part of make-up, but remember to be confident, wear a suitable color and be your-self. With these handy little lipstick tips you will never fail.

Chambor Powder Matte Lipstick: Review and Swatches

I am more of a ‘lip person’ than an ‘eye person’ (if you know what I mean) Women who claim to possess only two to three lipsticks which they buy, use and exhaust within a span of one year belong to a breed I don’t understand. They are an alien species existing on this planet in some remote corner where I never tread My mother strongly feels I suffer from an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) of hoarding lipsticks. Since the aforementioned OCD has now acquired gargantuan proportions, I am often compelled to denote her a few out of my treasured collection in a bid to keep her pleased and appear ‘normal’:)

My tryst with lipsticks began some four years ago with Colorbar matte lippies. Today, I own close to 25 shades from their matte collection. Since I find the remaining 20 (out of their total 45) either too dark or too light for my taste, I felt it was time for me to hoard up another brand. In my search for a new brand that offered a new texture and formulation to matte lippies I came across Chambor Powder Matte Lipsticks three months ago while casually tottering inside a mall

Chambor Powder Matte Lipsticks

Price and Weight: Rs 415 for 4.5 grams (so you get a tad more product than your regular 4g or 4.2 g lipsticks)
What Chambor claims: Non – drying triple action formula which (a) has anti-ageing properties to soften and smoothen lips (b) SPF 15 to protect against sun (c) hydration effect of Vitamin A and Jojoba oil. It contains no animal ingredients.
Total shades: 12 when these mattes were first launched in India in April 2010. Four or five new shades have been recently introduced in addition to these 12.

I would be reviewing fourteen shades.

1. Rose Fantasie: A pretty mauve lipstick with deep pink undertones that would suit a lot of skin tones. Pair it with a neutral eye during day or top it up with gloss for evening wear and see your complexion glow 
2. Desert Rose: A terracotta brown with very tender peachy undertones to it. The shade reminds me a lot of Colorbar’s Full Finish lipstick ‘Tempt Me’. But Desert Rose is a creamier version of the same so it tempts me more than ‘Tempt Me’ Also instantly reminded me of deserts, camels and Rajasthan where I spent 3 years of my childhood . And Oh! Also the song by Sting “Sweet Desert Rose, la yeah-ee yeah-lay”

3. Fronce Rose: An earthy brown with slightly orange undertones. A very wearable shade for most Indian skin tones.

4. Pink Devil: Similar to Rose Fantasie but lighter and more pink than mauve. Suitable for fair to very fair complexions.

5. Brun Cider: It is a coffee brown with black undertones (Don’t know how else to explain it!). I do not find this very wearable. A shade which will instantly add 5 years to my age and so is a blow to my vanity

6. Coral Reef: A gorgeous coral colour with strong pink undertones. A personal favourite.

7. Rose Fresque: Darker than Pink Devil but lighter than Rose Fantasie, this shade is actually a mix of both. Makes my complexion glow even on a bare face minus any make up. Along with Coral Reef, it is another favourite.
8. Dusky Earth: A regular chocolate brown colour which I find too dark for my liking though not hideous like Tender Chestnut below. Dusky Earth is a pretty shade in its own right and reminds me of ‘Verve’ by Colorbar.
9. Fantasy Nacre: A cherry colour with slightly brown undertones. Good for evening wear.
10. Mauve Fantasy: A deep mauve minus any pink undertones, bordering towards plum but not yet quite there. Apply this lipstick along with the same colour on long nails to achieve a Gothic look.

11. Tender Chestnut: A chestnut colour similar to Brun Cider but 2-3 shades darker than it. Apply this lipstick along with auburn coloured hair, medium and dark brown eyeshadow to achieve a Gothic look.

12. Indiana Fusion: Lovely auburn brown with orange undertones. Reminds me of Colorbar’s ‘Twig’. I used to wear that shade everyday during winters last year )

13. Brique Rose: A terracotta brown with pink undertones. The picture above does not do justice to this beauty, neither does the one below with me wearing this lipstick. The SA recommended it to me claiming that every customer who buys any of the Chambor mattes always takes this one home as a rule. Now I know why. It is a colour that gives me a pout, matches well with both Western and Indian outfits of any colour and doesn’t look over the top even when paired with gloss. I absolutely adore this one.

14. Rubis Rouge: I am not into reds but for those who like collecting reds and oranges, this is a beautiful red with orangey undertones.

What I like about Chambor Powder Matte lipsticks:

• Dermatologically tested so I believe very few people will break suffer from any allergic reactions or
  break-outs after using them.
• Water resistant and long wearing: My Colorbar mattes stay put for hours on end but the lighter shades do tend to fade with meals or when topped with a super moisturising clear gloss. I can eat, drink and make merry in my Chambor Mattes with or without a coloured/clear gloss and it stays put much longer!
• Claims to have spherical powders to get the ultimate matte effect: I don’t quite understand what this
  means but the moment the SA swatched these on my hand, I ‘felt’ the skin touch, sensation, and the
  texture of these mattes to be very smooth and of superior quality.
• Awesome pigmentation that gives you colour in one swipe flat.
• I have very dry lips and always use a colourless chapstick beneath all my matte lipsticks. But with these lippies I simply exfoliate my lips and apply them directly. The colour spreads beautifully and evenly without making my lips feel dehydrated.
• I also have a number of very visible fine lines on my lips and till date no other matte lipstick has
  diminished their appearance to such a great degree as these.
• Lightweight formula which does not leave any gunky or goopy residue towards the inner rims of my lips.
• Amazingly Non-feathering.
• For those whose days are guided by the names of lipsticks, this range has the most beautiful names !
• I am sensitive to lipsticks that emanate any kind of smell. But this one has a very mild and pleasant fragrance which does not overpower your senses as you carry on with the daily hurry-blurry of life

What I don’t like about Chambor Matte Lipsticks

• There is nothing wrong with the packaging but I find it a tad too simple. Though it is a very sturdy and ‘easy-to-carry- in-my –purse lipstick’ yet one that I don’t like to flaunt. It does not make for a ‘pretty-out- of- the- purse lipstick’ like the Maybelline Colour Sensationals. Frankly, these just look a bit ‘Auntyjee’
• The packaging for all the shades is exactly the same so I have to first find the tail end of the lipstick, read the microscopic names and then choose and apply. So those not blessed with a good vision or a good memory will have to twist the lipstick to choose the shade if they hoard many of these
• I often feel that some of their pink shades make my lips look slightly thinner as compared to my
  Revlon and Colorbar mattes which make my mouth appear fuller.
• Limited shade selection with too many browns-reason why I did not swatch all shades. I would have liked more pinks, corals and peaches so I hope they come up with more shades soon.

But then these are drawbacks that I am rather readily willing to ignore given my break-up with Colorbar and a new found love in Chambor .

Verdict: Absolute value for money and a must-have for those into mattes.

Would I purchase Chambor Matte Lipstick again: Yes, without doubt. They will definitely sit pretty in my never-ending and bulging-out-of-the-fridge (that’s where I store all my lipsticks) matte collection But now I need to purchase a new fridge for my makeup:-D

Oriflame Visions Lipsticks: Six more shades from the collection

(For diao5 and ame, lovely Chennai girls who read my lipstick reviews without doubting my sanity )

I am famous (or rather infamous ) for my lipstick collection which is increasing by the day. I marvel at girls who wait for a lipstick to finish before buying a new one. But there are way too many colours out there and it will be eternity before I can buy some more if I wait for my lipsticks to finish. As a result I pass on lipsticks to my friends and family, as I usually know their preference of colours. Many of the following colours by oriflame are safe to be passed on because I bought these through catalogue shopping as I was very curious to try the remaining shades of these mini 2.5 gram lipsticks. I already have reviewed six shades of these on IMBB and these are some more I picked up. The shades offered in total are 18 and I have exhausted all those that I like and hence can ignore these visions lipsticks in the future.

What I love about these:

• A lot of shades for everyone’s liking
• The right size so you can rest without worrying about picking up the wrong shade and wasting money
• The right size and money to pick up more as back up
• The price that suits college goers and office goers in case they want to match colours to their outfits
• Variety of colours and finish to match all your outfits
• Variety of colours to suit all complexions
• All the colours I have are quite pigmented
• None of these I found to be drying on the lips
• I have not had any unwanted reaction or problem with these even though they are cheap
• The packaging though looks flimsy is quite sturdy, I have not had any problem with the tube of any of my twelve from the collection
• Cute small packaging to carry along
• Corals, mauves, browns, reds, picks and nudes, the collection offers a great choice

What I dislike about oriflame visions lipsticks:

• Catalogue colors are misleading
• Packaging could have been better, but considering the cost, it meets expectation
• Some colors are little similar
• The shade names printed at the back are so tiny so i have a hard time reading them, although this is not major flaw or anything
• Some shades stain lips

Hope these shades along with the previous review help u guys to have an idea on what experimental colors you can pick up. I will start with my favourite

l-r almond brown, ice caffe, cocoa cream , sparkling ruby, storm, mauve magic

Almond brown: it’s a nude very light frosted light goldeny brown lipstick. It comes close to the natural lip color with just a light shine. It is not creamy or shimmery but a nudey brown color with a little glaze. It is one of my favourites and also helpful to tone down some dark colors.

Iced caffe: it’s a light brown darker than almond brown lipstick. It’s a kind of nudey brown again. Will suit all I feel.goes on very light on the lips.

Cocoa cream: It’s a chocolaty brick brown lipstick. It is a cream finish shade and will be a favourite with people who wear browns. It would be passed on to some friend. It could have been my favourite if it was more brick. The texture is very creamy and smooth, very pigmented.

Sparkling ruby: It’s a bright red with golden undertones. Definitely a party wear but some how a very decent red which I can carry. This lipstick not creamy but shiny. Can be used as a bridal red too as it perks up the complexion. This is the only red in the range.

Storm: This lipstick is a mild mix of brown and mauve and has a glaze finish to it. Donno how to else to explain this shade. Its slightly hard to get the exact color on the lips and comes on light. Its great for office wear and will suit most Indian complexions.

Mauve magic: It is an obvious mauve color on the darker side. Its on the shiny side, not matte. This is also finding a new home, I cant carry mauves. People who like purples, will love this shade.

The remaining colors from the collection which I do not intend to pick up are party purple, vampire, pink lips, chestnut brown, black cherry and damson crush.

These are all on the darker side. My favourites will be almond brown, hot chocolate, pick berry, coral red and nut brown. I don’t regret buying these lipsticks as these are totally worth the money. They are close to the simply pretty range from avon which is 4 gram but has a lot of shades to offer. The best part is that u can pick up many experimental colors which u would want to try but not want to spend much on like purples and reds. They are so cute and compact to carry and are not fragile in spite of the delicate looking tester-like packaging. If you want to start with oriflame, I recommend picking up at least one of these.
