MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick

Hello Everybody,

I am here with another MAC review.  I know Jomol is going to be mad at me for this, but anything for IMBB.  Rati and this blog have made me fall in love with this brand so much.  I have never worn a red lipstick in my life thinking it would never suit me, but recently, my love for lipsticks is increasing and I feel that even I can carry them off easily.  All credit goes to IMBB.  I really owe a lot to this blog for giving me so much information and I now know how to choose my makeup and beauty products well.

So, I just wanted to try how I would look wearing a red lipstick and headed to my most favourite brand MAC.  The MUAs there recognize me so well these days and that makes me so happy.  I told one of the MUAs that I always wanted a bright red lipstick, but never tried as I am afraid that I would look scary.  She was very sweet and allowed me to try all the reds in the collection and we finally got three in the list, Russian Red, Ruby Woo and Diva.  She suggested I take Ruby Woo because her complexion was similar to mine and Russian Red was more of an orangish red on me, Diva looked good, it was not red but more of a maroon shade on my lips.

After trying Ruby Woo thrice, I finally made up my mind and bought it.  So, here is my first red lipstick and this is my fourth MAC lipstick.  I am very very happy and a million thanks to Rati for this.

Finish:

This is of matte finish.  I must say I really love the texture.  Some people say that matte finish lipsticks of MAC are very drying, but I love this finish the most.  I have three satin finish lipsticks, but this is the one that I really like.  It is very soft on the lips and not at all drying.

Pigmentation:

The pigmentation is just awesome, just one swipe is enough.  When I tried this for the first time, the MUA laughed at the way I was applying.  I told her that I applied it very lightly as I was afraid it wouldn’t suit me.  This fear was there in my mind, I am NC42 in MAC and used to think that bright colours would never suit me.

Staying Power:

Fantastic, I wore this and it stayed the whole day in spite of eating and drinking.  According to me, the matte finish lipsticks from MAC have the best staying power and I am highly impressed.

Price:

Rs. 990, I think MAC has increased their prices now, earlier, it was for Rs. 900.

My Experience with MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick:

This is my first red lipstick and will always be special to me.  It brightens up my face and I think this would be the best matte red lipstick for anybody.  I am not fair skinned but even I am able to carry this off so well.  One thing I have learnt from IMBB is that we dusky girls should never shy away from bright colours without trying, assuming that it would never suit us.

MAC Fresco Rose Paint Pot

I always wanted to buy a MAC Paint Pot for myself and I was eyeing some neutral shades like the Groundwork or Painterly. When I went to the MAC store, I was surprised to see that they hardly had any paint pots with them! This bad stock story just did not stop with the paint pots but with their fluid lines and mascaras as well! I thought I should check out the other store in Chennai as well. That is when I remembered my Paint Pot in Fresco Rose.

I got the MAC Paint Pot in Fresco Rose with the MAC Tartan Tale “My Scottish Fling” kit. It is an awesome kit and this is a good color to have too. The paint pot is really creamy. The color is pure matte light pink color. The color is too light and I was not very sure whether it will show up on my lids, but to my surprise it did. I was super happy. Mine is an NC40 –NC42 skin tone and I think this will show well on almost all skin tones.

I use this as a base for my pink, peach and purple eyeshadows and the color becomes more bright and vibrant. Since this is in the cream form, it is better to blend as soon as you apply on your lids, else it dries and becomes very difficult to blend.  It does not crease or cake on the lids. Though my lids are not very oily, I am sure this will last long, almost for an entire day. Until I remove this with a makeup remover, it doesn’t fade or come off.

Pros of MAC Fresco Rose Paint Pot:

• Works as a great base.
• Color shows very well almost on all skin tones in spite of the color being a very light pink.
• Does not crease.
• Stays forever. Do we need it for more than 24 hours, I don’t think so. I have tried for an entire day and it just stayed in place through the day!!
• A small amount is enough and this paint pot will last me for my lifetime I guess. The only reason I would change it might be if it crosses its expiry period.

Cons of MAC Fresco Rose Paint Pot:

• I blend this with my fingers, but still I prefer a brush than my fingers. This does not come with any applicator.
• You have to apply this very quickly, else it becomes difficult to blend.
• I prefer to have neutral shades than this pink one as I can use it for various purposes (concealing, etc)., so I think the pink version of the paint pot is not a must-have.
• Availability is bad in Chennai.

Would I Repurchase MAC Fresco Rose Paint Pot?

No, definitely not.  This one will last long enough for me. I wish to try their neutral shades like the Painterly and Groundwork which can become a multipurpose cream base. Unless you are a “pink” lover who mostly uses pink eyeshadows and pink color in your makeup, you can easily skip this, but basically, the paint pot is such a great product of MAC that I think you should own at least one.

MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lovechild Review, Swatch, FOTD

Hey Everyone,

During my last visit to Chennai, I had picked up quite a lot of things out of which this is my new love, “MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lovechild.” I have very pigmented lips, so generally pinks don’t suit me that much and I prefer more of browns and bit darker shades, but this is such a pretty purply pink colour that I am so in love with.

I was actually hunting for a brown shade as usual, but the SA wanted me to try this and insisted me to buy this and I am so glad that I did get it.

Price:

Rs. 950/- for 4.8 gm.

It is cute and small and I can carry it always with me.

Product Description:

An unique lip gloss available in wide variety of colours that can create a high gloss,glass-like finish or a subtle sheen. Designed to be worn on its own, over Lip Pencil or Lipstick,Tinted Lipglass is the perfect product for creating shine that lasts.It’s pigmented,very shiny and can impart subtle or dramatic colour.It contains Jojoba Oil to help soften and condition the lips.Tinted Lipglass is packaged in a convenient bottle with a sponge tip applicator that provides a quick,smooth,even application.

My Take on MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lovechild:

It’s a very pretty colour which will suit many Indian skin tones.  MAC describes this shade as coppered plum.  It has golden shimmer which is not so obvious or chunky, but I feel that is what makes it more prettier.  It is semi-opaque and I prefer to wear it on its own and it is very shiny.

The applicator is nice and it picks up enough product for me to swipe my lower lip in one go.  It is a bit sticky and thicker than the other glosses I have used, but I guess that is what makes it stay longer.  It has a mild buttery smell to it which I like.  It does not bleed and has an amazing staying power.  It stayed for over 5 hours for me with light eating and drinks too and might have stayed longer, but I had removed it.  I am head-over-heels in love with this.  I can’t be without using it, I take it everywhere and I am using it almost every day.

Pros of MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lovechild:

• Very very very pretty colour.
• Very shiny and semi opaque.
• Nice applicator.
• Great staying power.
• Does not bleed.

Cons of MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lovechild:

• Price may be on the higher end for many.
• I don’t like it being sticky.
• Smell may not be liked by everyone.
• Availabilty, only in major cities, I had to go pretty far to get this.

Will I Purchase MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lovechild Again?

Yes, absolutely, as soon as this one gets over and the way I am using it, that day isn’t too far.

Vimi: I am good. Sorry for the delay in starting the chat. We had such an overwhelming response. We had some technical issues. Just got sorted. The session is extended for one hour.
R: May I ask my question? What is the best and easiest way to highlight and contour the face.

Vimi: I use MAC Select Moisture cover Concealer two shades lighter than the skintone and apply it down the bridge of the nose, on high points of cheeks and on cupid’s bow. For contouring, use the studio moisture cover concealer two shades darker than the skin tone and apply it on the hollows of the cheeks , sides of the nose, on jaw and blending it all the way down to neck.

R : and then you use the same color powders to finish off everything?
Vimi : I like to use MAC Prep and Prime Transparent finishing powder.
R. Thanks Vimi. May I ask one more question?
Vimi: Sure
R: What kind of makeup would be best to do with something as bright as MAC Lip Pencil Beet.

Vimi: would you like me to recomment someting natural or more dramatic?
R: more neutral, more everyday kinds
Vimi: You should try a eye liner slight flicked up with lots of mascara no eye shadow with lots of mascar!

MAC Eye Pencil Ebony Review, Swatch

Claims : Eye Pencils are formulated to provide rich, consistent colour using ingredients that have virtually no irritancy potential. They are comfortable to apply and sharpen to a fine point to allow for a precise application. EyePencils can be used to create a sharp line or a softer, smoky effect. They are long-lasting and won’t cake or streak.

Price : Rs 900

MAC describes Ebony as soft black. Ebony is a medium brownish greish black eye pencil. It is actually one of my least favourite eye pencils from MAC.

• It is a muted black color so it lacks the intensity of a super black pencil (which I like).
• It does not sting on water line but first, you have to swipe the pencil 3-4 times to intensify the color and second, it barely stays for 2 hours on my waterline.
• If you use it as an eyeliner on upper lid, it keeps getting transferred on crease area. If you set it with an eyeshadow, it still fades and does not last all day long.
• If you use it as a base for creating a smokey eye, it creases and even makes the eyeshadow face. I used Ebony  on lid HERE
• It sharpens pretty well.
• It goes on smooth on the lid but it is not the creamiest one around.
• It smudges pretty well for creating a soft smokey eye. However it doesn’t smudge too much on me when I use it on waterline. It just fades :-|

MAC Cremesheen Glass Subtropic Review, Swatch, FOTD

Claims :  Lip finish that fuses the creamy, sheen-filled nature of Cremesheen Lipstick with the shine of M.A.C Lipglass. Soft, comfortable, non-sticky. Applies with a doe-foot applicator. Use as a top layer to its namesake Lipstick or on its own.

Price : Rs 1,150

MAC Subtropic Cremesheen glass is a part of Semi Precious Collection. For some reason it is not listed in the official mailer. Don’t know why. Anyway!

Subtropic is a mid tone semi opaque warm coral color with very fine shimmers. It is actually a super close dupe of Fold and Tuck Lipglass that came with the Art Supplies Collection. I completley finished using that some time back and now this one is an awesome replacement.

Creemsheen glasses are not sticky, have a lovely vanilla fragrance and stays on for approx 2 hours on me.

Subtropic is a medium pigmented glass. The micro shimmers just give a nice sheen to the lips without feeling gritty. It goes on smooth on lips without settling the the fine lines. Also, creemsheen glasses are not thick in texture so they feel quite light on lips.

Subtropic is a fantastic shade for most Indian skin tones.Also, it’s once in a while that you get to find such a pretty shade of coral. It doesn’t wash out color form your face and it’s so easy to pull off. Except may be the staying power, the gloss is beautiful. The pigmentation is on the medium side so even those who have pigmented lips wouldn’t be disappointed with it.

Subtropic Swatch : 

And this is how it looks on me. I wear MAC foundation in NC 35 shade.

MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow Dupes

There are 4 eyeshadows I have found from my collection, which are quite similar to the MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow (Review HERE )

Face Eyeshadow Trio Beechwood – Gold color, Colorbar Pigment in Champagne, Estee Lauder Pure Color Palette Extravagant Gold (bottom right color), Inglot M 3 Eyeshadow Trio. 

Inglot one is slightly more bronzy than amber lights. Faces one is slightly muted than amber lights and not as yellow as the amber lights.

Colorbar Champagne pigment is super similar to the MAC Amber lights but is more shimmery than Amberlights. Also, since it a pigment, it has quite a lot of fall out. I could barely find the difference between the Estee Lauder eyeshadow and MAC Amberlights.

MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow Review, Swatch, FOTD

Price : Rs 680 for refill, Rs 900 (pan)

MAC describes Amber lights as peachy-brown with shimmer (frost).

Amberlights is a golden orangey coppery super pigmented eyeshadow. It is not chunky shimmery but has a high sheen to it. Amber Lights for me especially is a total festive color. It looks gorgeous with both Indian and western wear. You can  use it as a lid color and an inner corner color and it totally stands out on eyes. You can pair amber lights with browns, greens, blacks , plums, blues and many more colors. In fact on its own also it gives such a nice look to the lids.

There is a teeny meeny bit of fall out I noticed but really nothing that you can’t fix. When I love the most about this e/s is that it maintains its high sheen all day long. You can wear it with a soft brown eyeshadow during the day and amp it up with darker colors for evening.

Smooth blending, no creasing and fine textured.

According to me, it is a MUST HAVE from MAC eyeshadows collection. Indian women can especially pair this with their lovely sarees and suits.

Swatches :

Here I have used black and brown eyeshadow Sleek Oh So Special palette for outer corners and amberlights on the lid and inner corners.  Lined my eyes with black gel liner, applied kohl on waterline, curled lashes and applied mascara. 

I kept my face makeup quite simple here. Good Lovin’ lipglass (shimmery nude brown)on lips, Colorbar Just Earth blush on cheeks. 

And then I got bored of posing

Definitely give it a try.  You wouldn’t be disappointed.

MAC brave lipstick is a stain finish lipstick. MAC describes the shade as Pink-beige with white pearl (Satin).

Price : Rs 990

It is another cool toned nude pink beige shade. This is the first time I have used satin finish lipstick from MAC . The satin finish lipstick are super opaque but quite drying. BUT they are nicely long staying and they do accentuate my fine lines after almost 2 hours of wear. Brave stays on me for good 4-5 hours and definitely survives through the meals. Also, I find brave is way too nude for my NC 35 complexion. It looks different on me in different lights- sometimes pale pink, sometimes nude beige and sometimes nude pink. Actually both Brave and Angel remind me of Kim Kardashian. She likes to wear such pale shades.

With I have worn brave a couple of times in past week and every time I have either kept my blush or eyes on the heavy makeup wise.Otherwise I feel it drains out color from my face.   I see it working a lot for fair skin tones. It could be a nice MLBB color for medium to fair skin tone colors.

I like Brave for its opacity and staying power but this is not “oh-my-precious” color.

Brave is quite similar to cosmo, but cosmo is brighter than this so works more than this one for me.

Swatches :

This is how Brave looks on me mostly.

With slight light variation, Brave looks quite pale. But just check how “wow” opaque this looks.

Claims : Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.

MAC describes Syrup as Cloudy Pink .

Syrup is a lustre finish lipstick. It is a nude pink color with mauve undertone. One me it looks like a My Lips but Better (pink).

If you have tried lustre lipsticks form MAC you’d probably find them quite addictive. MAC lustre lipsticks are the kinds that you want to keep applying them on and on and on your lips. They feel light and are very moisturizing. Syrup is creamy has a light glossy finish to it. It’s a nice pink nude color and would work on light to medium skin tones. The mauve undertones may work for slight dusky skin tones as well (say NC 40-42). It is an easy to wear color , a nice day time one and goes well with smokey eyes. Without dark eyes or heavy blush it may sometimes wash out the color from face.  It is quite pigmented and no matter how many layers of it you apply on your lips, it never goes cakey. 

It is super moisturizing but the only glitch is the staying power. It stays on for around 2 1/2 hours on lips. But you really wouldn’t mind reapplying it. A great day to day color, looks lovely, feels moisturizing and has a nice vanilla fragrance.

I enjoy wearing Syrup. It’s “my kinda” color.

It is a part of permanent line so you can keep repurchasing it.
