Hi Imbb Friends,

I am putting forth this query on behalf of my friend, whose boyfriend is coming down from Australia and she wants him to bring some good stuff from Australia. Like most of guys, he too is ignorant about these stuff. So, please tell us some good products that he can buy from Australia. Price is not an issue, but quality is, and MAC, Body Shop, anything will do. Please also suggest a good foundation for her. She is fair with a subtle yellow or wheat undertone. She has acne-prone skin (not that sensitive, but once in a blue moon, she gets pimples). Please do suggest some good makeup kits too that he can bring down from Australia.

I am in office and a little bit busy now, but I will be checking your replies at regular intervals.

Thanks in advance,

Visakhi

Best Face Makeup For Older Women

Irrespective of what age you are, you as a woman are always in love with putting makeup in order to look flawlessly beautiful. While a young skin is naturally fresh and less faulty, skin starts to show the signs of aging as our age starts to increase. Hence, makeup is much needed for camouflaging the spots and wrinkles, fine lines and crows feet among the older women.

Makeup is not meant to make you look twenty years younger! Of course no makeup brand can ever do that no matter how much they claim. Makeup is meant to help you look at your best even while your skin starts getting old so that, you can age gracefully! Now, this is yet another of my research articles, I have written keeping the age-factor in mind. Of course, you must have guessed it by now and in case you haven’t, let me declare that in this article I have highlighted on the best face makeup for older women.

As I have already said, this is my research article and I have ransacked the length and breadth of the virtual world to come up with the best makeup ideas that older women can lay their hands on!

Best Face Makeup for Older Women Five Tips While You Choose Your Makeup

1. Avoid face powder or powder-based facial makeup products; it tends to make your skin look lifeless. With age, the natural glow is already lost and powder gives a flat appearance. Moreover, post-menopausal women develop facial hairs and powder makes these hairs clearly visible. While you avoid the powder on face, it is to be remembered that an eye-shadow can be a powder and you can use it without any inhibition. Stay away from glittery shades though.
2. Avoid foundations which promise you a shimmery look with embedded ‘light reflecting’ particles! The fact is that, they tend to make the signs of aging more obvious; hence avoid too much of shimmer in your foundation. A tinted moisturizer or a foundation with a moisturizing cream base is a great idea! Pick a foundation which offers full coverage; this will help to hide pigmentation.
3. If you want your cheeks to look naturally pink and healthy, go for a cream blusher. This will give a dewy appearance.
4. Do not invest in a lipstick of dark shade. Lips start to thin out with age. Dark lipsticks do not look good on thinning lips. Go for lipstick shades that are close to natural colors.
5. Instead of liquid eyeliners, invest in a pencil liner. Pencil liners are softer and better when used on maturing women.

Best Face Makeup For Older Women: Five Application Tips

1. Always use a primer before makeup so that your skin tone looks even.
2. Use a concealer so that you can hide all the dark spots and blemishes. Go for neutral shades of concealer.
3. While using a concealer under your eyes, the inner corner of eye to the middle-point must be patted dry.
4. A highlighter can be used immediately under your browbone and tis will make your eyes look bigger.
5. You must never put mascara on the lower eyelashes.

There are many other tips and brands which I have failed to put in this article due to time and space constraints.

MAC Nightmoth Lip Liner

Ever since Rati posted the MAC looks for autumn/winter by MAC a couple of months back, I was mesmerized by the smoked eyes and berry lips. I was searching for 2 lip shades for months now, berry toned and mauve toned and now I can say that I found both ;)

The face charts from MAC and the look on the models made me search this lip pencil and impulsively get this and trust me, absolutely no regrets ;)

MAC Says:
A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades. Nightmoth is Blackened plum.

Cost: $14

I’ll just jump to My Experience:

Yay’s:

- Its an absolute Wine shade lippie and in my opinion will suit all skin tones.
- Very pigmented.
- Very creamy, so blends easily with fingers/brushes.
- Excellent staying power, stayed for an entire evening and after dinner and all, a light stain remained.
- Fades evenly.
- My favourite shade ;)
- This looks great on its own, but can be mixed and matched with lipsticks and glosses to create a variety of colors, (yup- I am experimenting ;))
- Does not leave lips feeling dry.
- I wear it as a stain too.
- Looks great even with nothing else on the face.
- Leaves a smooth matte finish.
- Its very long, so will last a while.
- Can be sharpened.

Nay’s:

- Expensive :(.
- More suited for evenings, but can be blended and muted for day looks.
- Wastes product while sharpening.
- Did I say expensive?

I am absolutely loving it as it kind of brightens my face and so apt for the fall. I have saved all of Rati’s face chart articles and seriously I’m going to try out at least 3-4 of them, hehehe.

Will I Repurchase?

If anyone can tell me a dupe for it, please do. I want to stock up on this particular shade!

Will I Recommend?
Yes yes yes!!!

Launching with MAC Surf baby Collection (launching next weekend)

MAC describes short shorts as Frosty white champagne.

When I first saw this eyeshadow, I thought of MAC Nylon eye shadow from the permanent line. I checked back at the store and I was right. Both of them are quite similar. So if you have MAC Nylon eye shadow in your collection, guess you should skip this one.

MAC Short shorts eyeshadow is a frost finish eye shadow. It is a frosty champagne gold color. It is not super shimemry or shiny and that totally makes it even more beautiful and easy to wear.

Some features :

Makes an excellent highlighter.

Makes a superb inner corner (of the eye) colour.

You even use it to highlight your face – bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow , higher point sof cheeks and it looks beautiful . It looks soft and subtle without looking fake.

The texture is super smooth and you barely have to make any effort to make it work.

Works great as brow bone highlighter even for those who have heavy brow bone. The eyeshadow is not shiny as such so gives that soft finish to the eyes,

You can use it as an all over colour but I prefer not to use it.

Would work for a lot of skin tones. If you are very dusky, it may not work for you.

Zero fall outs.

Easy to blend. long lasting.

Nicely pigmented.

It is an excellent eyeshadow and it’s a must have to have atleast one highlighter in your eye shadow palette. If you still havent got one in your palette, do check this out. This is a limited edition eyeshadow.

IMBB’s contributor Natasha has used MAC Nylon eyeshadow in two of her looks, you may check those out HERE and HERE Short Shorts is very very similar. MAC Nylon is more golden and shiny than short shorts.

Price : Rs 990

MAC describes Good Lovin as soft peachy pink lipglass.

It is a beige pink lipglass with golden shimmers in it. It is quite sheer and goes almost like a nude gloss on my lips. Infact, this is best worn on top of a lipstick than on its own. It may also make you look washed out if you don’t do up your eyes a bit. Overall, I would say that it is good to have such a shade in your collection but it is not a must have. The shade is particularly pretty for those with fair to very fair complexion.

MAC lipglasses come with a sponge tip applicator. They have a lovely vanilla fragrance but are almost tasteless. They are quite sticky, which give them a nice staying power (almost 2-21/2 hours on my lips and are there even after full meals) .

Good Lovin would be launching with MAC Surf Baby Collection (within 10-15 days) . The packaging is quite pretty. The yellow applicators are quite summery and beachy. It is a limited edition product.

Swatch :

FOTD : worn on its own without a lipstick or a lip pencil underneath.

This lipglass is quite similar to the devilishly Stylish lipglass that came with the Venomous Villains Collection. The only difference I see between the two is that Devilishly stylish is little more coppery and warmer than the Good Lovin’

Claims : Instant eye prep! This quick fix reduces the look of puffy eyes and under-eye shadows while imparting a bright natural radiance to the entire eye area. Perfectly primes the eye for makeup. Use regularly and see those instant benefits become more permanent!

Price : Rs 1600

Vibrancy eye primer came up with MAC Primed for perfection collection. It is part of the permanent collection. I have bene using this for almost 15-20 days now and I am quite pleased with the products.

What I love about MAC Prep and Prime Vibrancy Eye Primer :

This is basically a primer for your under eye area. Just like you have a face primer to go before your foundation, MAC has launched a primer for concealers as well.

It is gel-cream like iridescent looking product that goes on super smooth on your under eye area. It is non greasy, gets absorbed in skin easily and adds a little brightness to your under eyes.

It creates and excellent base for the concealer to go on smoothly without making the appearance of concealer look heavy on your under eye area.

It prevents the concealer from caking or creasing for hours at ago There have been days when I have applied this around 11 in the morning and at around 6 in evening I could see my under eye area looking just fine. I mostly use the MAC studio finish concealer under the eyes and that is not a super long lasting concealer. With vibrancy under eye primer underneath, that has stayed under my eyes for so long and also prevented the concealer form creasing. So many times I have applied this during the day and haven’t felt the need to touch up my concealer while going out somewhere in evening.

It adds a bit of hydration and luminosity to the under eye area but don’t take it as a substitue for under eye cream. However this never makes your under eye area dry or uncomfortable through out the day.

A little goes a long way.

What I do not like about Vibrancy Eye Primer

It has caffeine in it to reduce puffy eyes. Well! but that would happen only if you use it every single day. With this price tag , you’d probably want to use it occasionally.

The pump dispenses more than the required product at times. And really, you don’t want to waste such an expensive product. A tube packaging with thin nozzle would have been a better packaging for this.

Swatch :

Blended swatch :

Overall, I really really like this stuff. I would suggest this especially to women, who have deep lines under their eyes or very dark circles and require to use thick concealers. This would really help to make your thick concealers go smoothly, last long and also prevent them from settling in fine lines for long hours.

MAC Cremeblend blush Something Special Review and FOTDs.

Haayyylooooooo!!! how’s life girlies? I’ve had a bit of a mental block lately thats why was all MIA. Wisdom teeth are bad- no superbad I don’t think after getting 2 I got any wiser.. did you???

Anyway, I thought in all this hoopla- let me concentrate on my happy zone- make up! I remember When the cremeblend blushes were introduced we all were so happy. The energy around it here was sooooo good I almost imagined FG, Rati and I hugging and happydancing. LOLL – see, such simple things give us so much joy… khi khi khi

Chalo, enough of yak yakking. Let me tell you more about this cool baby!
MAC describes it as : “Light Coral”. I got it for $21and it weighs 5.6g/0.19oz.

I first tried it a month back and was amazed that time itself but since my skin is very interesting- it looks powdery and a bit muddy when I just apply it but after an hour its all nice and the colors come out…yes– it has a mind of its own! so I didnt buy it at that time but it kept haunting me- for 1 complete month!!!

Available in 6 shades

Brit Wit Dusty rosy mauve

Ladyblush Warm neutral coral

Posey Warm peach

So Sweet, So Easy Bright yellow pink

Something Special Light coral

Tea Petal Mid-tone reddish brown

Did you notice the shade range is quite neutral. The colours enhance the natural tones of skin rather than adding significant color.
(actually the MUA told this to me ;) )

This is actually my 1st cream blush and maybe for a long long time I wont be getting another and I must say it is one of the best things I’ve got. I wanted a blush that I don’t have to think about.just to be able to put it on and be able to wear anything with it.

The texture is creamy and not so mushy though. Easy to apply with fingers, a stippling brush or a foundation brush (the MUA used MAC 109 on me).

What I like about MAC Cremeblend blush SOMETHING SPECIAL :

1) This is a perfect blush-blush. As in- when you apply it, it looks as if you have got healthy glow on your cheeks and not as if there is some (artificial) color on your cheeks.
2) Very light but very buildable.
3) Even though its creamy, it does not sit on your skin…. like, it just dissolves in your skin.
4) The Mua said it suits almost all skin tones- specially tanned ones.
5) I’m so in love with it- gives me a clean, healthy, glowy look!
6) Stays for more than 5 hours.. And I’m talking about all kinds of weather: scorching sun, mall walks, beach walks… and it just stayed- and glowed (Am I sounding poetic?)
7) With bronzer and a highlighter this will look very Sexy (the MUA quoted).

What people might not like:

1) Some girls like darker blush so they might have to use a base underneath.
2) Is not quite visible in piccys.. you can see a glow but not color per se. I wore it 3 times and showing FOTDs here.. I thought my face looked different each time. you decide

MAC describe Posey as Warm peach.

Price Rs 1150 .

Posey is a warm coraly pink color. It is a gorgeous color for all skin tones. It is the kind of warm pink that gives that nice glow to your cheeks and make you look fresh and alive. Not only it worked on my NC 35 skintone, it looked gorgeous on FG’s NC 42 skintone (she must have checked herself 10 times in the mirror after applying it. ) .

What I like about MAC Cremeblend Blush Posey :

Posey is a gorgeous.. okay …ultra gorgeous shade for all skintones.

It is not thick and blends into the skin like a dream.

It is buildable so you can work with the color of the blush according to your preference.

It is not shiny but has a light dewy finish.

It works well on my normal to dry skin and equally well on FG’s oily skin without giving any extra shine to her face.

The staying power on my skin is more than 5 hours and FG’s around 4 hours – this includes traveling, in and out of AC etc. Even after that I could see a light flush of color on my cheeks.

It did not get patchy at all- neither on FG nor on me.

It looks quite natural, just like your natural cheek flush would look.

It blends easily both with fingers tips and a duo fibre brush.

I don’t know what not to like about cremeblend blushes. I totally loved Posey both texture and color wise.

I first took this photo, then felt that the blush wasn’t showing much.

So I applied more blush and took this photo. Now I am not sure which photo shows more color on my cheeks. You decide.

MAC describes Ladyblush as warm neutral coral.

Price : Rs 1150

Ladyblush is light slightly warm peachy pink. It is a cream blush. MAC has relaunched Blushcremes as Creamblend blushes recently and Ladyblush is part of that as well.

What I like about MAC Ladyblush Blushcreme:

It is a nice cream blush. It glides on your skin easily and blends easily.

On my normal to dry skin, it stays around 4 hours with foundation as a base. I tried it on Navpreet, who also has a dry skin. She did not have any foundation or tinted moisturiser and her skin drank up with blush within one and a half hour or so. On FG’s super oily skin, it stayed for more than 3 hours. She did set her face with powder after applying this blush. It gave a shiny look to her cheeks and she had to blot her face once in these three hours. It did not clog her pores. However, on all three of us it did not get patchy at all.

I would say that blushcreme is mainly for people with normal to dry skin. It gives that dewy look to the skin and on oily skin, it just looks shiny.

It is quite pigmented.

What I do not like about Ladyblush Blushcreme

Ladyblush the color on its own did not suit FG’s warm olive skin tone (NC 42) , mine NC 35 or Navpreet’s NC 30. It was just not blending with our complexion. We could see light pink blush “applied” on our cheeks but it was not going with our skintones . There is not enough warmth in the colour that it would give the natural flush to your cheeks. If you are fair and have slightly pink undertones , this might be a flattering colour for you. From what I see this is not a great shade for most medium to dusky skintones.

The texture is a little gooey and buttery. So storing it in a cool place would be the best thing to do.

Also, for some reason I could not blend blushcreme very well with my fingers. The texture is a little thick and it is best applied with a duo fibre brush.

I am not totally disappointed with the product as a whole because it works well as abase for my pink powder blushes but the colour itself is not too flattering on me. If you are fair NC 20-25 , this would make a gorgeous natural cheek color for you.

The new cremblend blushes are much much better than the blushcremes texture wise. I guess MAC was aware of the shortcomings of these and hence relaunched their cream blushes with a better formula. ( Comparison post coming up today. )

Ladyblush blushcreme swatches : not blended, blended.

And this is how ladyblush blushcreme looks on me. If you closely see , you can see light pink color applied on my cheek plane. The more I apply the more whitish pinkish it looks.

Indian Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating : :-* + 0.5

Ladyblush is quite similar to NYX Cream Blush in Natural . Natural has more warmth than Ladyblush.

PS : I tried it at the store before purchasing but guess the lightings at the store tricked me.

MAC Vanilla Pigment

Hi lovelies!

As I was arranging my makeup, I saw the MAC Vanilla Pigment sitting back there with all the makeup that I had stopped using quite a while ago. When I had first gotten this pigment, this was all I used every single day for almost 6-7 months. Feeling guilty that I was neglecting so many other beauty items in my collection, I (quite grudgingly) put it away for a few months. I pulled it out again yesterday and decided to write about one of the most popular pigments from MAC.

Price: Rs. 1250/- in India. I had got it for $19.50 from maccosmetics.com

Packaging: I have this in the old pigment packaging which is 7.5g. The newer packaging is smaller – 4.5g.

Shade: In the tub, Vanilla comes across as a shimmery off-white color with gold sparkles. However, on the skin, it transforms into a shimmery duochrome fleshy toned light gold and light pink.

What I love:

• Color: Given all the hype surrounding Vanilla, I had gone to the MAC counter to give it a try. The first look at the product in the packaging completely disappointed me. It looked too stark white and very frosty for my complexion. However, the MUA convinced me to give it a try and she applied a little bit on my cheekbone as a highlighter and Wow!! This blended into my skin into a beautiful gold and pink highlighter. It looks so wonderfully complex and is so wearable.
• Great for almost all skin tones: There must be zillions of websites dedicated to this wonderful pigment but I have seldom come across reviews explaining why this would work for medium to dark Indian skin tones. Here’s my two cents: Vanilla goes on goldy shimmery off white color which can look quite contrasting on dark skin tones. I have tried similar looking shades from MAC and other brands but more often that not, those looked too stark on me. This is where Vanilla scores! The secret behind making it work on our skin tones is blending. It is actually quite sheer when it’s blended out. When you first apply it, it looks extremely pigmented and very white on the skin but once you start blending, it loses all its whiteness and leaves a gorgeous light golden sheen. Personally, I think this can work for majority of Indian skin tones (barring maybe very dark skin tones) as long as it’s blended out properly.
• Huge quantity: The full size jar has so much of pigment that in spite of using it so much, I have hardly scratched the surface. There’s so much of product that it should last me at least this lifetime, if not more!!!! Since a little goes a very long way, this is one product which might never be completely used.
• Shimmer: I have a huge problem with MAC pigments. The shimmer in a lot of them are quite chunky and glittery which I am not a big fan of. That kind of glitter transfers all over the face and looks too sparkly. However, the shimmer in Vanilla is very subtle and very pretty, doesn’t transfer to the rest of the face and causes almost no fallout.
• Texture: As with most MAC shadows, Vanilla is extremely lightweight and gets blended effortlessly. The texture is very soft and is not chalky at all.
• Staying power: Needless to say, being a MAC product, this goes on extremely smoothly and stays on for a very long time. However, if using as an eyelid color, I would recommend using an eye primer because this can look quite horrible if it creases on you.
• Mistake diffuser: As a brow highlighter and a cheek highlighter, Vanilla pigment can blend out, soften and diffuse any harsh lines and mistakes. The great part is it can blend out any color – be it a soft blue or a deep plum.
• Multipurpose & Versatile: Vanilla is one pigment which can have as many uses as your imagination takes you. This is one of the most multipurpose products I have in my collection and can be used in so many different ways. Here are some of the ways I have used it in:

My most favorite way of using Vanilla is by mixing a small amount with my moisturizer and applying it all over my face to get a wonderful dewy and glowy look. However, special care should be taken to use a very small amount of pigment as overdoing it will make the effect too shimmery.

Vanilla can be used not just as a brow highlighter but also as an overall lid color. One of the easiest ways to create an eye look with this pigment is to use it with a light hand over the entire lid with an eye base with some mascara and/or liner/kajal.

(In the above picture, I have used Vanilla pigment as an overall lid color, brow highlighter and as a cheek highlighter.)

It looks great when applied on the inner tear duct. It instantly opens up the eyes for a wide awake effect.

I also mix Vanilla with a clear lip gloss or a lip balm to give a wonderful sheen on the lips.

Another way is to apply it over darker shades of lipstick to achieve a great 3-D effect and a fuller pout.

Vanilla pigment is wonderful as a cheek and nose highlighter. It imparts a wonderful golden glow on the cheeks right above the apple of the cheek. However, again use it very sparingly as it can look frosty if applied too much.

It also boosts matte blushes with a slightly pearly luminosity.

Use a little bit on the Cupid’s bow for that full lip effect.

I have also applied it on my neck and collar bone area esp. while going out at nights to impart a glowy overall effect.

Another way of using Vanilla is to mix it with your favorite matte nail paint or mix it with a top coat and apply all over nails for a golden shimmery look.

These are just some of the ways I have used Vanilla pigment. I am sure there would be so many other ways to use this versatile shade.

What I don’t love About MAC Vanilla Pigment:

• Price: It is really expensive to shell out more than Rs. 1000/- or about $20 for a full size pigment jar.

• Packaging: Pigments come in jars with black screwy tops. It is very easy to spill pigments and because there is no sifter, it is very difficult to control how much product will come out.

• Messy: As with all loose powders, it can be really messy and can fly everywhere. As much as I love it, it is quite difficult to work with the tub and risk spillage. I find it easier and cleaner to work with whatever pigment is on the underside of the top.

• Frosty: A little goes a long way and if used a tad bit more than required, it could look frosty esp. on warm skin tones. A light handed application is a must for Vanilla pigment.
• Not suitable for very dark skin tones: Even though it works on majority of skin tones, it can look quite stark on someone who is very dark.

Rating: 4 out of 5

I really like this pigment because of how multipurpose it is. It is one of the staples from MAC. However, I really dislike how expensive it is and how messy it can get. I wont be repurchasing it ever because I don’t think I will finish the whole bottle in this lifetime. A little goes a long way and there’s just too much of product in it.

I have always felt that purchasing a full size pigment is a sheer waste of money as there’s just too much of product. But if I had to buy just one full size bottle, it‘s definitely Vanilla because of how many ways I can use it in. I would suggest you guys try out the pigment in a sample size and figure out whether it works on your skin tone and then decide on whether you want to get the whole tub or not.
