The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil

After reading about the benefits of all kinds of vitamins, I too wanted to add some to my skin care routine. I checked out The Body Shop in SGS Mall, Pune and tada, they have Vitamin C and Vitamin E range.

Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant which fights the aging process and can be used for treating a variety of skin issues. The body shop Vitamin E range consists of around 20 products with Face wash, Moisturizers, Mask, Face oil, Scrub, Face serum, Eye cream, Toner, Soap, etc. I was using Olay 7-in-1 serum and cream religiously during that time and hence did not want to buy another moisturizer and so Vitamin E Facial oil became the chosen one.

Product Description by Body Shop:

An aromatic, pre-moisturiser treat for the skin to boost moisturisation, nourish the skin when used as part of a daily regime. Absorbs quickly into the skin to leave it feeling soothed, silky-smooth and perfectly prepared for your daily moisturiser. Ideal for dry skin. Non comedogenic.

985 INR for 15 ml.

Main Ingredients:

• Wheat germ, rice bran and soya oils – are naturally high in Vitamin E.
• Grape seed and jojoba oils – to nourish.
• A blend of essential oils including rose – to soothe the skin and the senses.

Triticum Vulgare Germ Oil, Corylus Avellana Nut Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Glycine Soja Oil, Oryza Sativa Bran Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Boswellia Carterii Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Linalool, Citronellol, Limonene, Geraniol, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Vetiveria Zizanoides Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa Seed Oil, Chamomilla Recutita Extract, Citral.

How To Use:

Gently massage onto face and neck before moisturizer. The oil comes in a hard bottle with a dropper. The cap can be unscrewed to take out the dropper and simply squeeze the black tip to drop the oil into your hands.

Texture and Smell:

Consistency is the same as normal coconut oil or other cooking oil. It is free flowing and not very thick. It has a strong smell which I will not call very pleasant or floral, but it fades away after half an hour or so.

My Experience with The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil:

I use this oil in my night-time regime only.  I wash the face, massage 3 to 4 drops of oil, and then apply moisturizer over it. Initially, I did not notice much difference. Usually, the next morning, there would be a glow on my face because of the oil, that was it.  However, as days passed by, I noticed visible improvement in my skin texture. My pores became small, sun tan got removed, acne marks faded super fast, fine lines reduced and I got very healthy skin with no dryness at all. I promise, I am telling the truth here and only truth. :haanji:

In the initial few days when I went to sleep after applying the oil, I had nightmares of me waking up with bumps all over the face; however, nothing of that sort happened. I even suspect there is a rosy glow to my face nowadays :mirror: I am loving it!

Pros of The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil:

• Keeps the skin well moisturized throughout the day.
• Easily absorbs into the skin, only a very light greasiness remains which can be easily blotted away.
• With continuous usage, skin becomes smooth and healthy.
• Helps in fading scars or acne marks.
• Non-comedogenic, did not break me out even after applying moisturizer on top of the oil.
• Can be used before applying your usual moisturizer to get added benefits.
• For oily skin, there is no need for another moisturizer after applying this oil.
• Helps in removing the sun tan.
• Pores and fine lines get reduced, although do not get completely diminished.
• Lasts for a long time since only 3 to 4 drops are required to cover the entire face and neck.
• The dropper is handy for taking out the oil and there is no spillage or wastage.
• Safe to use daily, I have been using it daily for the past 1.5 months and I am very happy with the results.

Cons of The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil:

• The price is on the higher side.
• It will make the face oily if applied in a larger quantity, it is better suited for night-time healing.
• I have combination skin and it did not break me out, but oily-skinned ladies should check first if this will create pimples before starting to apply on a daily basis.

Will I Range The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Oil?

Yes, it will take a long time to finish up this bottle though.

The Body Shop Floral Acai Body Butter Duo

My Experience with The Body Shop Floral Acai Body Butter Duo:

I absolutely love the scent of this body butter; it is a floral berry scent, very subtle, delicate and soothing, not at all overpowering. This was the only reason I liked this duo more than the others. The darker half that is for the drier area is less fragrant and moisturizes my knees and elbows very well. The lighter side has a strong fragrance which spreads evenly on applying. I use both the sides before bedtime so that it can soak into the skin and give a luxurious and soft feeling in the morning. It gives a buttery feeling, but gets absorbed very quickly without leaving any oily traces. It doesn’t feel sticky also. I think it’s a perfect combination to take care of dry skin in winters.

What I Like about The Body Shop Floral Acai Body Butter Duo:

• It an amazing way to keep your skin feel fresh and soft, taking extra care of the drier areas. No need to have a bunch of creams and lotions.
• The light moisturizer works really well, spreads nicely without any sticky oily feeling, leaving your arms and legs soft to touch and floral to smell.
• The thick buttery cream serves perfectly in keeping knees, elbows and feet smooth and supple. No extra rubbing required, gets soaked in the skin very easily.
• The fragrance is fruity, floral and delicate, not at all overly perfumed.

What I Did Not Like about The Body Shop Floral Acai Body Butter Duo:

• I found the quantity very less.
• Not suitable for oily-skinned beauties and a big “no” for summer.

The Body Shop Earth Lovers Apricot and Basil Biodegradable Shower Gel

Hi Girls, This is my latest purchase from “The Body Shop,” which was about four months ago and this is my very first review on a Body Shop product. I was just browsing the store and my eyes fell on the Earth Lover’s range. As someone who is really concerned about pollution, I was quite attracted to this product.  This range from The Body Shop is free of sulphates, parabens and colorants.

This range had six variants:

• Pear and Lemongrass Shower Gel.
• Fig and Rosemary Shower Gel.
• Lemon and Thyme Shower Gel.
• Watermelon and Eucalyptus Shower Gel.
• Cucumber and Mint Shower Gel.
• Apricot and Basil Shower Gel.

Why Did I Choose Apricot and Basil Shower Gel over Others?

I love the fragrance of apricots:) I’m not very fond of eating apricots though.  I sniffed all the testers from this range and felt this variant best suited my personality. The fragrance was very fresh and vibrant. When I tried this tester, I found that the smell of apricots was strong and there was a hint of basil as well.  I bought apricots from the store especially for this photo

Directions for Use:

Lather up in the bath or shower using hands or a bath lily. Rinse thoroughly.

My Experience with The Body Shop Earth Lovers Apricot and Basil Biodegradable Shower Gel:

The product itself is transparent and not too runny.  It comes in a green transparent bottle with a flip-flop cap. The label has been kept simple.  I use this in the morning to wake me up. The apricot fragrance is so refreshing and has a yumminess to it. I would also describe this fragrance as cute and young. When I use this in the morning, I feel happy and energized.  My bathroom smells wonderful for at least five minutes after I use it. I like the fact that no colorants or sulphates are added, so it makes me feel less guilty using it.

I like this product even more when I think that even without harmful chemicals, (SLS for lather and colouring to make it attractive), it works well and smells great.  It lathers well enough for me; however, you can’t get away with using too little quantity and because of that, might not last too long.  Also, this does not moisturise your skin, so a body lotion is definitely needed.  This smell lingers in your body only for about 10 minutes, so it won’t clash with the body lotion that you will use.

What I Love about The Body Shop Earth Lovers Apricot and Basil Biodegradable Shower Gel:

• The fragrance, fragrance, fragrance
• No harmful sulphates, colourants, so does not harm the user nor the environment.
• Very refreshing.
• Quite cheap compared to the other TBS shower gels of the same size.
• I love the simple yet sturdy packaging with the flip-flop cap, only the amount needed can be taken out without wastage.
• Does not dry nor tighten the skin.

What I Do Not Like about The Body Shop Earth Lovers Apricot and Basil Biodegradable Shower Gel:

• Not an ideal product for those who don’t like fruity fragrances.
• Does not moisturise skin, but this is not exactly a con because the product does not claim to moisturise skin.

Will I Purchase The Body Shop Earth Lover’s Apricot and Basil Biodegradable Shower Gel Again?

Definitely yes. This is the second best thing for my mornings after my cup of tea.  I feel this product is good value for money; however, I wish Body Shop introduces more products to the Earth Lovers range.

The Body Shop Midnight Bakula Body Wash

Well, most TBS body washes do not have the complete list of ingredients. What is written on the back of this bottle is, mysterious bakula flower extract and community trade honey from an organic source.

A fragrant body wash to leave the skin feeling cleansed and subtly scented with the captivating Midnight Bakula fragrance. A soap-free cleanser, with bakula flower extract.

My Take on The Body Shop Midnight Bakula Body Wash:

This was a limited edition product which I bought during Diwali. The bottle looked exotic and I just couldn’t ignore it. The fragrance is just so heavenly. This is the best fragrant body wash ever! It has musky and floral scent. The musky note being stronger and has a very sweet undertone. When you have bath with this, be assured that your entire bathroom will be fragrant.  The fragrance lingers for a long time after bath.

Bakula is a very fragrant flower, also known as “maha gandh raj” or “emperor of fragrance trees.” It has medicinal properties and is widely used in Ayurveda for dental ailments! In Thailand, bakula flower is an important element for the relief of fatigue and you can feel this when you have bath with this body wash because it just calms you down.

The body wash is a yellow liquid with very tiny white beads (you can see in the pic below).  I have used this body wash mostly in winters and found that my skin (combination skin type) did feel a little dry after taking bath. I think in summers, it won’t dry the skin and with a fragrance like that, it will be awesome in summers. I should have bought more of this

Pros of The Body Shop Midnight Bakula Body Wash:

• Fragrance! It smells heavenly.

Cons of The Body Shop Midnight Bakula Body Wash:

• Skin becomes a bit dry.
• Limited edition product, not available in TBS, Hyderabad.

The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Polynesia Lotus and Frangipani Flower Bathing Milk

Best if you want to create tropical oasis in your own bathroom and float away to paradise as you fill your bath with the heady scent of tropical flowers with an indulgent, conditioning milky cream with derived ingredients from around the world.

How It Works:

• Community Trade organic cold pressed coconut oil from Samoa moisturizes and softens.
• Community Trade honey from an organic source moisturizes the skin.
• Lotus extract is reputed to have skin softening properties.
• Frangipani extract is reputed to have calming properties.

I wish I could have written this review before the winters, because this is one of the best body washes for winters.  It is rightly called “bathing milk” because it is such a creamy-creamy formula and does not leave your skin dry, itchy or stretchy. I am using this bottle from October 2011 and it has just got over now. The texture of this is perfect, just creamy enough to spread easily all over the body.  My skin is not very dry and after using this, sometimes I don’t even need a moisturizer! The bottle suggests that you use it as a soak, but I use it as a body wash. The fragrance is heavenly, smells just like a Frangipani flower. The perfume lingers for a while after the bath too.

Pros of The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Polynesia Lotus and Frangipani Flower Bathing Milk:

• Creamy texture of the bathing milk.
• Leaves you skin fresh and hydrated.  I skip moisturizer occasionally.
• Mild fragrance, not overpowering.  The fragrance lingers for some time after the bath too.
• Lovely moisturizing ingredients like honey and coconut oil.

Cons of The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Polynesia Lotus and Frangipani Flower Bathing Milk:

• Expensive.
• Err, might sound silly, but I prefer flip-top bottles. This one is a screw cap.  Most of the times, we have bath in a hurry, and opening this bottle is a pain.

I’m back again with another review and today, I’m reviewing The Body Shop’s Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm.

About TBS Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm:

This non-sticky balm quickly hydrates lips. It is flavoured with vanilla and a hint of spice.

My Take on The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm:

This is one of the BEST lip balms I have owned till date.  It’s milky white, smooth and moisturizes the lips, keeping them soft and supple for a good 3-4 hours (without eating or drinking) and even when you eat or drink, it stays on to some extent. It comes in a classy, metal tub unlike the other lip balms, which come in a plastic tub. It smells exactly like vanilla with a spice flavour and it’s really hard for me to resist sniffing it often.  The only problem is that if you apply more than required just because it smells nice and yummy, it’ll make your lips look “white.” (so does it mean its tinted?! :P)

Pros of The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm:

• Super moisturising.
• Staying power is good.
• Good base for lipsticks/glosses or stains.
• Lovely smell.
• Paraben free.
• Takes care of chapped lips too.
• Price is fine for the quantity.

Cons of The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm:

• Limited edition.
• No SPF.
• Gives a whitish cast if applied too much.
• Unhygienic tub packaging.

Will I Buy The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm Again?

Definitely!! I just wish this wasn’t a limited edition product  :( or else it would have been my HG lip balm.

Do I Recommend The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm?

YES!! A big fat YES if you love the smell of vanilla and if you really need a very good lip balm, don’t think too much, just go for it!

The Body Shop Spa Wisdom On a high Hydrating Puree

When I was in Sydney (for my higher education), I would call this TBS Spa Wisdom Body Lotion my best buddy during summers.  I first came across The Body Shop when I was in Sydney.  Whenever I crossed their store, the yummy fragrance of their body butters invited me to their shop. There were so many times that I would go, have a look around the shop and come back empty handed as I was a student then and never felt like buying anything from my part-time earnings.

The first time my aunt gifted me this body lotion, I fell in love with this and ended up buying it again and again. My cousin who visited me recently knew that I love this one and got one for me. The packaging of this hydrating puree comes in a convenient pump dispenser bottle. Though it is not travel friendly, I like the packaging so much. I am not sure about the price and also I doubt the availability in India. We have other variants like the African Spa Wisdom but not this one, I wish we get this here pretty soon.

The lotion is a baby pink-colored one and looks so tempting in the bottle. When I smelled, it gives a mild rose water fragrance that mesmerized me. No need to talk about the fragrance much as it is a TBS product !! I really love the fragrance so much. I take a generous amount of the lotion and use it as my skin is dry. It is a light lotion, so I guess it would better suit people with oily skin. Even in summers, I have to re-apply the lotion once or twice, so this is absolutely not to be used during winters.

Pros of The Body Shop Spa Wisdom On a high Hydrating Puree:

• Amazing rose water fragrance that is very mild and soothing.
• The fragrance stays on for a while.
• Easy-to-use pump dispenser.
• Baby pink lotion looks attractive.
• Not tested on animals.
• The lotion gets absorbed quickly in the skin and thus application doesn’t take much time.

Cons of The Body Shop Spa Wisdom On a high Hydrating Puree:

• Not very moisturising. This is my summer moisturizer, that too not in India.  I prefer a better or heavier moisturizer than this.
• Not travel friendly.
• Nonavailability in India.
• Pricing is a bit high. Though I am not very sure about the price, it should be around Rs. 1000 for 250 ml.
• I need a lot of this lotion every time as I have dry skin, so I finish up the bottle pretty soon.

Will I Repurchase The Body Shop Spa Wisdom On a high Hydrating Puree?

The sole reason that would tempt me to buy this is the fragrance and nothing else. So, I stopped getting this. This bottle was a gift and thus I am still having one. People with oily skin might like this. I have super dry skin and thus I do not prefer this much.  I prefer TBS body butters to be perfect for my dry skin, so I might end up buying more body butters and not this hydrating puree anymore.

The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo

I am back with a new review.

Today, I am going review The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo.  I have combination hair type, i.e., oily scalp and dry ends. It’s the worst hair type possible. So, basically if I use a product that removes excess oil from the scalp, it would dry out my ends. If it’s too creamy or moisturizing, then the scalp becomes oily the next day.  So, I’m always on the lookout for a product which removes the oil effectively without drying my hair too much.  So, cutting the long story short, let’s find out if my quest to find the perfect product worked this time or not.

Product Description by Body Shop:
Cleanses to reduce excess oil for hair that looks clean and fresh all day. With pracaxi oil, white nettle, seaweed and Community Trade sugar and aloe vera. No silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants.  For oily hair.

Price:

Rs. 515 for 250 ml.

This shampoo contains no silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants. It also meets our eco-conscious standard. It is respectful to the aquatic environment, meets strict biodegradability standards, and minimizes the use of non-sustainable packaging resources. We’re working hard to help protect our planet. Together we can make a difference.

The pracaxi tree grows in the wet tropical climate along the Delta of Amazonas River and its precious seeds are cold pressed for its oil.  White nettle is traditionally used on oily and greasy hair due to its mild-cleansing properties.  We buy Community Trade sugar from the Montillo Co-operative in Paraguay and aloe vera from the Guastatoya Farmers in Guatemala. Our trade rewards local suppliers fairly for their expertise, and helps them invest in their futures.

My Take on The Body Shop’s Rainforest Balance Shampoo:

This shampoo works and how!!!! I usually oil my hair overnight before my hair wash, I literally smother my hair with oil.  :P I was pleasantly surprised when it washed my hair and all the oil was gone in just one wash, that too with a coin-sized amount for my shoulder length hair.

This is how the shampoo looks:

The shampoo has a clear gel-like consistency which is neither too thick nor runny.

What I Like about The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo:

• Just a small quantity required to wash shoulder length hair.
• Removes the last speck of oil from the hair without causing any hair fall.
• Not very drying for my type of hair.
• The shampoo is very mild.
• It is environment-friendly.
• Does not contain silicones, parabens or colourants.
• The Body Shop does not test on animals.
• Better packaging compared to the older bulky bottles that The Body Shop had.

What I Don’t Like about The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo:

• The smell isn’t that great, but I guess I can put up with that.
• Not suitable for gals with dry hair.

Would I Recommend The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo?

Definitely yes.  It’s a boon for oily-hair beauties. I have found my HG shampoo

The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover

Hey Everyone,

Today, I will be reviewing this amazing eye makeup remover which I use everyday to remove my eye makeup.

Price:

Rs. 495 for 250 ml.

Packaging:

It comes in a regular body shop 250 ml bottle with a nice flip-flop cap but the bottle is opaque, so you can’t actually see how much quantity is left.

You can see that it is transparent and very watery and creates a foam if I shake the bottle too much.  I got it in July and I use it everyday to remove my eyeliner and kajal and still more than half of the bottle if left.  So, I really don’t mind shelling out that 500 for an eye makeup remover.  This one is going to last me a long time.

One more major reason is very little product is required to remove my eye makeup.  It works well on waterproof makeup too, no need for rubbing or anything, just a gentle wipe of it is enough to remove my eye makeup.  It has a little weird kind of a smell, but nothing much of a problem though.  It is meant for all skin types.  I have sensitive skin, but I didn’t have any kind of a rash or anything and its safe for contact lens wearers too.  It does make my eyes feel very soft after I use it.  Overall, I like this product a lot.

The pic on the left shows my Chambor eye tattoo liner in ET 02 swatched thrice on the back of my hand. The pic on the right shows The Body Shop Eye Makeup Remover swiped lightly over it once.

The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover:

• It removes make up in one go.
• The quantity is a lot.
• It does live up to its claim of softening my eyelids.
• It is meant for all skin types.

Cons of The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover:

• I don’t like the smell.

The Body Shop Tea Tree and Lavender Camomile Blotting Tissues

Today, I’m going to review two of my all-time favorite blotting tissues, The Body Shop Blotting Tissues in Tea Tree and Lavender.

Blotting Tissues, basically blot/absorb all the oil from a particular area where you place them. These are real helpful when your skin gets oily due to heavy makeup, or if you have naturally oily/combination skin such as mine. Blotting tissues absorb the oil without messing up the makeup as in the case of an ordinary facial tissue paper. I have a combination skin, which tends to get super oily on my T-zone, especially when I apply makeup. I WORSHIP blotting tissues!!!!

I’ll first review the The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues.

These blotting tissues are infused with tea tree oil and are especially made for blemished skin which is acne prone. I like this one a lot. Each sheet has a beautiful Tea Tree fragrance to it. It absorbs all the excess oil from my face and while doing so, it also nourishes my skin.

Now, the Lavender Blotting Tissues.

These are especially made for sensitive skin. I use these only on occasions as compared to the Tea Tree blotting tissues that I use almost everyday (because of their acne-fighting properties).

Each sheet has a very subtle lavender fragrance to it.

This is how it looks when the oil is absorbed from the skin. The blotting paper turns a bit translucent.

These are 2 of my all-time favorite blotting tissues.  They not only absorb all the excess oil from my skin, but also have a beautiful fragrance to them. I LOVE THEM!

Rs. 175 for a packet of 65 sheets.

Pros of The Body Shop Blotting Tissues in Tea Tree and Lavender:

• Both these blotting tissues absorb excess oil from my face.
• They do not mess up my makeup.
• Beautiful fragrance.
• Inexpensive for the quantity.
• Easy to carry while traveling.

Cons of The Body Shop Blotting Tissues in Tea Tree and Lavender:

• I honestly cannot think of any!
