Tarte Rainforest of the Sea So Fine Micro Liner Review

Hello everyone,

This review will be on the Tarte “Rainforest of the Sea” So Fine Micro Liner.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea So Fine Micro Liner

About the product:  A waterproof, liquid eyeliner with a micro-thin, fine tip for precise liner looks.

What it does:  Achieve a tight line, and define and volumize lashes with this water-infused liquid liner. Featuring an ultra-fine tip, it makes it easy to create a crisp, precise line and expertly fill in spaces between lashes to extend and volumize the appearance of the upper and lower lash line. It’s formulated with tarte’s antioxidant Rainforest of the Sea complex to help hydrate and protect skin. Loaded with triple-black pigments, it’s perfect for creating a crisp line or dramatic cat eye look with ultimate control.  It is formulated without parabens, phthalates.  This product is vegan, ophthalmologist tested, and dermatologist tested.

My Experience with Tarte Rainforest of the Sea So Fine Micro Liner:

Packaging:  This eyeliner is quite thin and lightweight. It does not have that weight to it which makes an eyeliner easy to grip and ergonomic. The slender body of the pen does take a bit of getting used to hold during application. The packaging even though it looks very cute with the colorful cap, does not reflect the high price.

Texture and Application:  This eyeliner has a very very short and fine tip. You can see just how small it is in comparison to my Lorac Pro Eyeliner. The short tip does take a bit of getting used to. You can make an easy cat eye wing with it, but when it comes to drawing a line over your lashes, if you are accustomed to the method of stamping your eyeliner with the side of a pen style liner, you cannot do that with this fine tip. You only can use it in small strokes to get a line drawn on the eyelid. On the plus side, this short tip makes it perfect to create an inner corner eyeliner point or create a double wing or any sort of artistic liner look.

The eyeliner liquid is also quite thin and runny. You have to draw your stokes quickly or else it tends to spread and bleed around if kept in one spot for too long.

Pigmentation:  This is a true jet black liner. It has amazing pigmentation, goes on fully opaque in one stroke, and dries quickly, but the downside of this is that it does not leave you any room to make mistakes. It requires a very steady hand to get a clean and crisp eyeliner look.

Staying Power: This eyeliner claims to be waterproof and the swatch test proved that. I ran my hand under water and even rubbed it, and it did not budge. Since I don’t go swimming with eye makeup on, I cannot testify to the same when it is on my eyes, but it did last for 8+ hours with no smearing or fading on my oily lids, which is quite impressive.

Overall, I wouldn’t call this eyeliner beginner friendly. Even though I am quite used to applying eyeliner on a regular basis, I still had a difficult time and got used to the application on my third try. But I really love the super jet black hue and how strongly pigmented it is. I like it but not as much as my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner or Lorac Pro Liner, and given the choice between them, I will still go with my all-time favorites. Even though I like this product, I will not repurchase it.

I have used this eyeliner to create cat eye wings in both EOTDs.

Eyeshadows in the EOTDS are from the Viseart Sultry Muse Palette with the exception of a pop of bright blue with the Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in the shade “Paranoid.”
