Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer Review

Hello everyone,

Being someone with genetic dark circles, concealers are a vital part of my makeup routine. Though I have been pretty happy with my current concealers – Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (for when I seek full coverage for special occasions) and Bareminerals Bareskin Concealer (for everyday use), I am always on a lookout for newer and better versions to try. This review will be on the newly-released Tarte Shape Tape Concealer.

My Experience with Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer:

Packaging and Applicator:  The concealer tube is pretty cute with the design on the cap. The applicator is a doe foot with a wide surface area (bigger than most other concealers I have used) which comes up to a point. The applicator picks up a good amount of product and hence you need not keep dipping the wand back again to get more.

Texture/Consistency:  This is not a thin runny concealer. It has some thickness to it hence it can feel a bit heavy on the skin but I don’t mind it since the thickness does give me coverage I desire and does not crease or settle.

Blendability:  This concealer spreads and blends easily. I do find that it sets quite fast hence I do have to work fast. I prefer using a Beauty Blender to blend it out and I have had no issue of it getting patchy or not giving me even coverage.

Coverage:  I am amazed by how full coverage and pigmented this concealer is (even more than the UD Naked concealer in my opinion which is already so full coverage). I find that the thinnest layer (hence a little goes a long way) helps me get a super opaque coverage, good enough to not need a corrector underneath. I can use this both to cover my dark circles as well as blemishes. This might be a con for those who do not prefer such heavy-duty coverage on a regular basis.

Since it sets on its own, I don’t feel the need to set it with powder. I do not find this concealer to be apt to bake since it dries down so dry and matte that more powder would make the area look dry and cakey. At most, I will do a light dusting of powder (I prefer my Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush flawless finish powder) and I am good to go.

Finish:  This concealer gives a complete matte finish.

Shade:  I have the shade “Light Medium,” which does match my skin but it is a bit too yellow. Since I do use it to highlight as well, I don’t mind the tone.

Staying Power:  This concealer has impressed me the most with its fantastic staying power.  It does not fade, does not crease, does not get shiny, does not need touch-ups for a full 8-9 hours that I have worn this at max. For reference, I do have normal to oily eye area.

Overall, I do love this concealer. This might easily replace my UD Naked Skin Care Concealer, which I still love, but the lasting power of this Tarte Concealer gives it an edge over my UD one. It is excellent product and I will recommend this.

Pros of Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer:

  • Long wearing.
  • Absolute full coverage.
  • A little goes a long way.
  • Super matte finish.
  • Does not crease or settle into fine lines.
  • Covers even the darkest dark circles.
  • No setting with powder required.

Cons of Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer:

  • Not a lightweight concealer, can feel bit a bit heavy and thick on the skin.
  • Does dry down to a super matte finish which works for oily eye area, but for dry skin, make sure to properly moisturize the skin first.
  • Blends better with a sponge than with fingers. Since it does dry so quickly, blending with fingertips can yield uneven finish.
