Hi beauties,

I am becoming a great fan of “The Balm” products, this is my second product from the range. I am already in love with their blush, so today I am here to review a tinted moisturizer from the brand. I am really crazy about tinted moisturizers and BB creams, I always make it a point to try them out whenever I see one. Again with the support of our dear IMBB, I will be reviewing this tinted moisturizer “Light” from “The Balm.”

My Take on The Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer:

The tinted moisturizer is enclosed in an outer cover which has all the details regarding the product. The cover provides us with information like ingredients and warnings. The tube itself is a light peach shade with a grey flip open cap and has a matte finish with written engravings in grey also. There is nothing fancy about the packing of the moisturizer.

Now coming to the product, the cream is a bit thick in texture, but very smooth and creamy that it blends with the skin easily and absorbs pretty fast. It does not make your skin oily even though it has a thick texture. There are 7 different shades available and I had chosen Light/Medium for my NC 30 skin tone while ordering online, but I received the shade “Light.” I had a near heartbreak when I saw the color, it was actually the lightest shade I have ever used in my life, but I decided to try it on my hand and see how it works. It really blended with my skin to give a perfect smooth finish and a very natural look.

I usually apply tinted moisturizer with my fingers and I tried it on my face, I never felt it looking ashy, cakey or weird, it merged with my skin tone to give a polished look. But unfortunately it does not cover any marks on the face, the light scars near my chin area was clearly visible. I did not expect much coverage as it blended with my skin perfectly. I like the way it blends with my skin to give a soft glow to my face. It did not highlight any dry patches on my face and covered my pores to a certain extent. I don’t have much acne scars or imperfections on my face so I actually like how it works on my skin. But for those who have major issues with their skin will not have any benefit from using this tinted moisturizer. It does not give an even finish, a little more coverage would have done wonders to the product.

The Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer

I have dry/combination skin and it has not caused me any irritation or breakouts. Though the texture of this moisturizer is thick, it does not make your face look like a grease ball, I feel it is suitable for all skin types. The staying power is also average, it stays fresh for about 3 to 4 hours after which I start noticing oiliness around my T-zone. It is a moisturizer that can be used on a daily basis as it is very light on skin.  It also has SPF 18 which is an additional bonus. It is best suited for clear and problem-free skin as it gives a very fresh and natural look.

Pros of The Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer:

  • The texture is thick, smooth and creamy which blends easily with the skin.
  • It gives a soft glow to your skin without making it oily or greasy.
  • Though the shade Light/Medium would have suited me better, this shade does not make my skin look ashy.
  • It has an average staying power.
  • It does not highlight any dry patches on your face.
  • The quantity provided is great considering the price.
  • It has an SPF 18 which helps in giving additional sun protection along with sunscreen.
  • It does not feel heavy on skin, stays light and fresh.
  • It is suitable for most of the skin types.

Cons of The Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer:

  • It provides very sheer coverage which does not help in covering any sorts of imperfection.
  • It can be used only along with a concealer for those who have scars to cover up.
  • It does not even out your skin tone.
  • There is no attractive quality in the packaging of the product.

IMBB Rating:

3.8/5. I would recommend this tinted moisturizer only for those who have clear skin, others can skip it because there won’t be change in the appearance of your skin after using this product.

  1. Jotsna I swatched this on the back of my hand at the store and I put on a lot, but it was like, nothing happened to my hand. *specs* It’s just that sheer. 🙂 Agree too about the packaging…it looks especially bland next to their cute blushes and lipsticks.
