My Experience with The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask:

I like using products which are made of natural plant extracts, organically grown and processed using the Ayurveda tradition. So I was an easy game for this The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask, which is 100% vegan and infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil. My sensitive and combination skin type tends to become oily in extremely hot summers and dry in extremely cold winters. The current weather was the best time to pick up this mask when my skin is neither too oily nor too dry.

Bamboo charcoal absorbs minerals, toxins, impurities and other harmful substances from skin, making it stronger and healthier. It also acts as a natural exfoliator to remove dead skin cells. Green tea has antioxidants that benefit the skin in many ways and is also used to treat acne. Tea tree oil is known for its healing, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It’s known for helping cure acne and many skin diseases like psoriasis, eczema, etc. The Body Shop mask is a tingling clay mask and is not advisable for sensitive skin types. So, I did a patch test on the back of my hand and results were good. Then I did a patch test on my chin, results were good. That very evening, I first applied this mask on my full face, away from the eyes. Results were fantastic!

Yes for a few seconds tingling sensation is felt, which is not at all bothersome to me. It is a brownish green coloured mask and has finely milled granules. This mask changes colour during application and after drying. The consistency is perfect; it is neither too thick nor runny. It applies smoothly, evenly and quickly. I usually wash it off once it dries. Drying time is anywhere between 3 to 10 minutes but can differ from person to person. For me, one side of my face dries very quickly and the other half takes more time. The mask makes my skin firmer and purifies my skin by removing impurities and gives an even skin tone. I had some red marks on my cheeks since my skin becomes oversensitive and reacts badly to some products.

These marks had lightened but not vanished. And, guess what? The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask has cleared all those marks, made my skin tone even and my face is back to normal. In my opinion, this mask is good to cleanse and purify the facial skin at home without having to visit the parlour. It can be used once or maximum twice a week. It is not advisable that you use this mask frequently since it tends to absorb excess oil and regular use may lead to an overdose, resulting in over drying of the skin. Currently, I am using it twice a week and in winters will limit it to once a week or once in two weeks.

It is advisable to use a brush to apply this mask. I prefer applying with my fingers. In my opinion, it’s a yes for combination, acne prone and sensitive skin types and also for normal to oily skin types. But do not opt for it if you have a very sensitive or very dry skin type. Please note that this is my personal view, which can vary from person to person. Skin feels firmer, smoother and brighter, gets a purifying glow and skin tone becomes even with regular usage. It does not cause any burning sensation or irritate my combination and sensitive skin.
