The Body Shop Tea Tree vs Himalaya Neem Skin Care: Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Vedika Asks :

I was wondering if you could tell me whether you thought the Body Shop line was better or if the Himalaya Neem line is better. I tried to look for a review comparing the two product lines, but had no luck.

I have combination skin and have had issues with acne for the last seven years. I have tried proactive, exposed skin care, clean and clear, nutorgena and clinique so far. I picked up the Neem line a few months ago, and it has helped to a certain degree. I also tried having Safi. All of this, plus my nani got me ayurvedic medicines as well.

I’d really love to hear your thoughts on the two companies.
Looking forward to hearing from you (and reading more of your articles!)

  1. I have tried both Vedika…if u r looking for somethng that will stop the occurence of pimples…then both wont help..both help in controlling the oil on face…although TBS claims to help clear blemishes…personally i prefer TBS since i do feel it helps in fading the acne marks…it gives a cooling sensation which himalaya doesnt…both give squeaky clean face..but with TBS i feel doesnt dry out the skin at all…u can also research tea tree benefit over neem if u want to…but my pick wud be TBS.. :waytogo:

  2. I cant comment abt body shop but i’ve used the neem line n its helped me tremendously! Neem face pack once a week n neem face wash everytime i washed my face. My aunt (mausi) is a fan of the face wash in particular coz its not too drying and effective on acne. However results are visible only with longterm usage. If u r expecting miracles overnite then himalaya may disappoint. Hope that helps! πŸ™‚

  3. Also my derma told me the best way to test if the face wash is ok for ur kin type is that u shud not hav a dry stretchy feeling after washing ur face..

  4. hey…I too had a huge battle with pimples, thankfully, they reduced to a great extent, I would pick up TBS tea tree line over Himalaya Neem. Neem kind of dries the skin, but the TBS tee tree face pack does not dry the skin and it leaves the skin clean and supple. Hope that helps.

      1. my credit card bill from nov 3 to dec 11 was 20k. I dont have any courage to buy anything till Jan. Also I shamelessly bought clinique 3 step system after mac….so no more guts to indulge :nababana: :nababana: :nababana:

    1. you know in one of those many things i bought over the past few months, I picked up something called Fruits of the earth from some exhibition. Its a neem based pack and is good for spot treatment. i had this obnoxious pimple which refused to go away and in about 1 week of using this pack, it has come down considerably. am so relieved.

  7. Umm, i dont know if it has worked for other people… but the body shop seaweed clarifying toner has cleared my skin a lot. If i dont use it for more than a few days my skins gets pissed off and starts breaking out into small zits XD

  8. I have tried both and I don’t think either of them produce worthy results.

The neem cleanser barely did its job on my skin; it left it feeling still gunky and when I used toner on my skin after, I could still find a lot of dirt on my skin. The face pack didn’t do much for my acne either, despite me using both neem products for a long time.
As for TBS, I found the cleanser to be average, and the exfoliating scrub to be ridiculous. The crushed apricot kernels which were meant to be the exfoliators were much too large (scratched my face) and the rest of the scrub was slippy and left an oily film after it was washed off. I did not use the toner but it looks like it has some powder residue in it that might help. The tea tree oil (10ml) has a pleasant smell but I find that you can get good quality tea tree oil from other sources at better prices. :nababana:

I have combination (leaning to oily) skin dealing with acne as well and found that using the following have helped me:

    1) Get an oil-free, non-irritating cleanser and exfoliator [I am using Neutrogena Grapefruit cleanser, Cetaphil is also recommended. As for exfoliator, I am using a Biore one that is for acne-prone skin.]

    2) Use Witch Hazel as a toner (I mix some tea tree oil into mine. Witch Hazel contains tannins which tighten pores, preventing them from being open to collecting oil and dirt. It also has anti-bacterial properties.]

    3) Apply Benzoyl Peroxide on whole areas (not spots) affected by acne [This disinfects the area where the acne-causing bacteria reside. You can start from 2.5% and build your way up if you feel it doesn’t have an effect.]

    4) Use a light, oil-free moisturiser, created for acne skin. If it contains salicylic acid, even better. [Benzoyl Peroxide will dry out your skin, so to prevent it from going overboard, you need to moisturise. I use Palmer’s Daily Facial Lotion as it is lightweight and absorbs into the skin.]

    5) Use a light, oil-free sunblock lotion if you are heading outdoors [This will protect your skin and prevent acne scars from darkening, thus helping your skin regain the clarity it used to have. I use Neutrogena oil-free Sunblock in SPF50.]

I found that buying these things individually helped me far more than splurging on a wholesome-looking set that may contain only one product delivering its promises. I was practicing some of the above and I found that GossMakeupArtist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAv8-6hkYko) recommended the same regimen as he also had a bad experience with acne. Good luck! :haanji:

  9. My sister-in-law had probs with Acne n Lotus Tea Tree Face wash helped her..
I have also heard a lot about my auntwho is a Shahnaz husain fan about its Neem range. She swears by its Neem rehydrant lotion and Neem face pack.

  10. I haven’t tried either of them so I can’t really help you out there. Sorry. :(( But good luck with the search! :teddy:
