The New Fashion Fads – Waistcoats, Shrugs and Scarves

A big Hellooooo, to all the pretty women out there!!

You know, I have realized something. That I have got bored of the denim jeans. So, as an alternative, I took to patialas and long skirts. But, wait a minute! What about the top part. I mean, in case of our skinny jeans, almost everything went with it, from kurtis to tops and t-shirts, but surely I couldn’t have worn the same with skirts. Then I decided over the safest option, tank tops and camisoles, but again, I want to have a decent look to go with it. Since I am a bit chubby (just a teensy bit), I want my arms covered, or just some accessory which will “trendify” the otherwise bland tank tops. So came the solution, shrugs and scarves, and the latest fad, waistcoats. I thought to share these beauties with you all, to tell you that with a simple help from these, you can transform an ordinary outfit into a head turner. So sit back, and enjoy the fashion ride with me.

The New Fashion Fads - Waistcoats, Shrugs and Scarves

Shrugs:

Waist coat

Not all of us are comfortable wearing sleeveless tops, and that’s the truth. It might be because your arms give a rather plump look, even if you are slim, or may be just the plain fact that you don’t like to go out with bare arms. It is mostly a matter of comfort level. At that time, shrugs come to your rescue. The best part is that you can wear shrugs on almost anything, be it a t-shirt or a kurti or a top or a cami even. Just be very careful while choosing one for yourself and see that it fits you snugly. Nothing looks worse than an ill-fitted shrug. It can make or ruin your outfit. No underarms done? A shrug can save your day, big time. 😀  Alia Bhatt carried the shrug quite gracefully in “2 States.” I am truly a fan of her style. It’s fun, and easy to carry.

Waistcoats/Nehru Jackets, Denim half-jackets:

Nowadays, waistcoats and denim half jackets, are the coolest and preppiest way to trendify your plain kurtis and tank tops. As I said with shrugs, these waistcoats will also go with a variety of outfits. Be it long skirts, or patialas or jeans, waistcoats can add a charm to all.

Waist coat

Waistcoats were brought back into trend by Parineeti Chopra in “Ishaqzaade.” Though it failed to create much impact as her character wore the same outfit almost throughout the movie, and also, due to the political undertones of her character. Also, it made her then plump figure look toned down.

Waist coat

Sonam Kapoor too, donned the waistcoats in “Raanjhanaa” for her Delhi University look in the second half of the movie. Her character wore denim waistcoat, or you can say a bolero, over kurti, which looked a perfect blend of indo-west.

However, it, too failed to create much stir among the fashion world.

The waistcoats, both traditional and denim ones were brought into trend, by Alia again, in her movies “2 States” and “Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania.” Take a look.

Scarves:

If you are not too keen on layering up, as is the case with waistcoats and shrugs, there is another trendy alternative, scarves. A printed scarf, draped casually over your tank top or just a simple tee, can transform your bland look. Also, as I said, if you are not too comfortable with figure hugging clothes, or sleeve less tops. These can always come to your rescue. You can wear a scarf over your top, with a long skirt, or a jeans. In case of patialas, I would say that give your scarf a skip, but scarves are the new in. Never wear printed scarves with printed top/kurti/tee. Printed scarves suit on plain upper wears only. If you want to wear scarves on your printed tops or kurtis, I suggest that you get some plain and neutral colored scarves.  Scarves were brought into fashion by none other by the pretty Anoushka Sharma, while playing the fiery Shruti Kakkar in Band Baaja Baaraat.

So people! Plain-jane tops are a thing of the past. Get yourself some of these cool accessories. You will be surprised to see how much of a difference they will make to your otherwise bland daily apparels, and that too, without pinching a hole in your pocket. 😀 😀
