theBalm Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette Review

I love the story behind the creation of theBalm. The founder Marissa Shipman, worked on TV, decided to start her own cosmetics line in 2004. She started by purchasing 11 books on Amazon and created her first product, a lip balm. Later, she got some funding to hire a lab and a chemist. That was the true beginning of theBalm. It is inspirational! The products and their packaging are impressive, but the story just pumps me with more enthusiasm for this brand. Here I am going to write about Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette, which was released as a limited edition product, but became a part of their permanent line.

My Experience with theBalm Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette:

Packaging:
Like all theBalm products, this palette also is packaged in a colorful themed paper packaging with an envelope in which the palette can slide in. Do not mistake the paper packaging to be flimsy or weak in this case. It is quite sturdy and tough to break and destroy the product. There are two flaps provided, one for the powder product and the other for the cream lip and cheek product. I did not see this innovative idea in other brands. There are 12 eye shadows provided, one highlighter which is a dupe of Mary-Lou Manizer, a blush ‘Fratboy’ and two lip/cheek creams.

The weight of products is as follows:
• Eyeshadow total weight -10.8 g
• Milly and Vanilly lip and cheek cream – 4g each
• Solid gold luminizer – 4g
• Fratboy blush – 2.8g

The flap for the powder section bears a mirror in heart shape at its back. At the back, other details are mentioned. There is no applicator provided. My suggestion is to use a natural bristle flat shader brush for application.

Texture:
I will explain the texture of all the shades separately:

Metallica and Lead Zeppelin have a lot of shimmer, yet they are smooth and do not create fall outs.

Alice Cooper is a satin finish shade with a little bit of shimmer here and there that may not be visible on application.

Iron Maid In, Third Eye Blinded and Blink 1982 have very finely milled shimmer and give iridescent glow.

Adagio, Allegro, Moderato and Presto are totally matte with no dryness or powder like texture.

The Stroke and Rem have satin finish.

Blush ‘Fratboy’ is completely matte. Luminizer ‘Solid Gold’ is shimmery, but gives a very fine glow.

Milly and Vanilly lip and cheek stains are blendable, but have a wax like texture.

Pigmentation:
Pigmentation is A+ for all the eye shadows. I did not feel that they are falling short in any of the colors in the palette. One swatch on finger could pick up a lot. They stain, so it’s better to use a flat brush to apply directly on the eyelids, which will transfer all the color directly on them. The creams are waxy and can be bit emollient on cheeks, so do set with a powder.

Metallica is a silver shade. Iron Maid-In is pale gold shade. Lead Zeppelin is dark, dirty green shade. Alice Cooper is a maroon shade. Adagio is a creamy, matte highlighting shade. Allegro is a fawn colored crease shade. Moderato and Presto are dark violet and dark chocolate colored shade. Blink is taupe shade. The stroke is a very deep navy blue shade. Rem and Third eye blinded are light purple and pale pink colored shades respectively.

Solid Gold luminizer is a good dupe of famous Mary Lou Manizer. Blush has been specified as their famous blush ‘Fratboy’. Milly and Vanilly are baby pink and red (with blue undertones) lip and cheek cream.

Staying Power:
They are really good eye shadows that hold up for 8-9 hours, with or without primer, straight. I have used the shimmery shades mixed with a setting spray and they performed very well. Can be used in any weather except while getting wet in the rain.

Luminizer and blush have the same rating. I am little hesitant for lip and cheek creams, which are waxy. If used on cheeks and set with a powder, their staying power is good for 6-7 hours. On lips, do not use without a lip liner because they will transfer and fade very easily, so there should be some color left on the lips.

  1. I love how fun these products and their packagings are! I just love theBalm for this. I loved all the shade except lip and cheek creams, wanted them to be more pigmented. But it is such a cutie product to own. Love it!

    1. Yes Shikha the packaging is very attractive. Cream products are just okay. I think more pigmentation would have ruined them as cheek products. Imagine clown cheeks.. 😀
