My Take on theBalm Hot Mama Shadow/Blush:
This is a pretty peachy blush with very fine golden shimmer in it. When applied properly, the golden shimmer gives a nice glow to the cheeks and does not look over the top at all. I got this beautiful blush along with my Cabana Boy Blush.
Comes in theBalm signature cardboard with magnetic flip packaging with their signature cheeky cover picture :). It has a decent size mirror inside.
On my NC42 skin, the peach shade doesn’t show up much. Initially, when I got this blush, I tried to build the color and applied over and over again. It ended up looking too shimmery and burnt. Then, I learnt how to use it properly. Once you swirl the brush on the blush, make sure to tap off the excess before applying it on the cheeks. This will ensure that you get rid of excess shimmer and get the right amount of glow on your cheeks.
I found a different way to put this blush to good use, I use it for highlighting. I use it over any peach or coral blush, just to get the glow. I get the color from the base blush and beautiful glow from this one, but lighter skin beauties can totally rock this shade on its own.
This is widely compared to the NARS Orgasm Blush. I don’t own the NARS Orgasm blush, but from the online swatches, this looks pretty similar to the NARS one. Also, they say that NARS blush is a little less pigmented and more shimmery than this one, neither of which I prefer. I think this would be the perfect dupe for me.
This shade does work as a pretty all-over lid shade or to brighten the inner corner of my eyes. Also, looks beautiful as a under brow bone highlight shade.
Pros of theBalm Hot Mama Shadow/Blush:
- Great shade for light to medium skin tones.
- On my skin, it works as a great highlighter shade.
- The golden shimmer is not over the top if applied sheer.
- Works as a very pretty golden highlight.
- Compared to the cult favorite NARS Orgasm Blush.
- Love the cardboard packaging and the picture on it 🙂
- Works great as an overall eyelid and highlighter shade on the eyes.
Cons of theBalm Hot Mama Shadow/Blush:
- Have to apply with light hand, otherwise it can look too shimmery.
Final Thought:
If you have a fair to medium complexion, and like shimmery blush, then this is an awesome pick. Nevertheless, tan skinned beauties can always use it as a highlighter/shadow. This is truly a versatile product.
