Tie Your Scarves in These 6 Classy Ways This Winter

By Grisha Gupta

Hey all,

The warmth in the weather is fading away and the chill is creeping in. Even in a place like South India, where winters are non-existent, the evenings are cooler and so are the early mornings. Despite the weather, scarves are my favorite thing ever created. It can protect you from the winter winds and for the unfortunate ones, winter rains. I truly rely on my scarves for winters. I just can’t wait to go back home and sport these new knots with my outfits. If someone would take away my scarves, I would die, I would literally die. The best thing about them is that you can tie them in a million ways. Just playing around with them can teach you a new trick. So, I will tell you some of my favorite ways to tie them.

1. The Modern One Loop

This is the classic drape with one loop around your neck. This is my go-to style. It is simple and chic. Here are the steps:

• Drape the scarf over your shoulder with one end longer than the other
• Take the longer end and loop it around your neck once
• Now you can have the two ends equal or unequal and also adjust the size of the loop

2. The Infinity Loop

This is another one of my favorites. This is best done with long scarves. Here’s how to do this:

• Drape both the ends of the scarf so that the ends are at and equal length
• Tie the two ends together
• Take the ‘O’ shaped loop and twist it so that it’s an ‘8’
• Now put the bottom loop of the ‘8’ over your head and voila!

3. The European Loop

This was taught to me by my 5th grade teacher and I remember exactly what he said then. He said this is the right way to wear a muffler (woolen scarf). Well, apparently there is no right way sir, is there? Let’s have a look:

• Fold the scarf in half in length
• Drape the scarf around your neck with the non-folded end longer than the folded end
• Now pass the non-folded end through the loop of the folded end and adjust

4. The Quick Toss

This is the simplest look ever:

• Drape the scarf over the shoulder with one end longer than the other
• Now drape one end over the shoulder and let it hang freely on the back

5. The Braid

I was playing around with my scarf one day and ended up with this look. I didn’t really know this was one of the ways to tie a scarf. Steps:

• Follow the steps of European loop and instead of tightening the folded end, twist it to make a ‘8’
• Now, put the non-folded end through the ‘8’ and adjust
Now you have a scarf style that resembles a braid; aren’t we all fan of braids?

6. The Waterfall

I personally have never been able to do this successfully. But I will keep trying.

• Drape over the shoulder with one end longer
• Loop the longer end around your neck once
• Now take the top corner of the longer end and secure it behind your neck
• If done properly, will resemble waterfall

These are some of the looks. Which is your favorite? 🙂
