Toners for your Skin Type
We all know that one has to follow the three basic steps of cleansing, toning and moisturizing for a beautiful skin. As far as I am concerned I just can’t keep up with this routine daily. At times, due to lack to time I just skip the toning part. Though I am well aware of the importance of toners, yet my laziness take a toll over me at times.
Here is a brief guideline that will help us all to select the best one for our skin type and embrace this product in our daily skincare regime.
Use toners to:
• Make skin feel fresh and clean
• Remove excess oil from the skin
• Eliminate the toxins
• Refresh tired complexion
• Tighten pores
Types of toners:
Skin fresheners: These are the mildest form of toners; they contain virtually no alcohol (0-10%), water, and a humectant such as glycerine. These are most suitable for use on dry, dehydrated, sensitive and normal skins.
Skin tonics: These contain a small quantity of alcohol (up to 20%), water and a humectant ingredient. They are suitable for use on normal, combination, and oily skin.
Astringents: These are the strongest form of toner and contain a high proportion of alcohol (20-60%), antiseptic ingredients, water, and a humectant ingredient. To prevent dehydration, astringent is best applied only to problem areas of skin, such as spots. No wonder these are suited for oily to very oily skin types.
Toners and your skin:
Dry skin: A hydrating or a moisturizing toner is best for your skin. Make sure there is no alcohol content in it to avoid dryness. Find ones with nourishing oils and moisturizers.
Normal and combination skin: You really have to take into consideration the weather. For hot sweltering summers go for refreshing toners. In harsh winters go for moisturizing ones.
Oily skin: Opt for refreshing toners without moisturizers. The ones with AHAs and salcyclic acid are your best bet.
Sensitive skin: Stay far away from alcohol based toners. Try Witch hazel instead.
Tips for toning:
• Always apply the toner to a cleansed face.
• Dampen a cotton ball with toner, and wipe it across your face. Allow it to dry naturally.
• Avoid the eye area while applying a toner.
• Don’t use toner more than once a day, especially if you have dry skin.
• If you have combination skin you may apply toner only to your oily T-zone.

That’s a good round-up Era.
Toners are such an underrated part of skin care.
I personally prefer toners that are hyalurons because they contain humectants which prep the skin for further moisturisation. They work both for oily and dry skin types. You can read more about it on my site if you like.
