Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer Review

I am a concealer junkie. Every time a new concealer comes out in the market, I have to get my hands on it. I have genetic dark circles which have a prominent bluish purple undertone, hence a concealer is not a luxury but a necessity for me! I have my set of holy grail concealer which I will repurchase over and over again (namely Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer, Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, Bareminerals Bareskin Concealer in order of preference), but considering the hype surrounding this Too Faced Born This Way Concealer, I decided to try this out. I love the Too faced born this way foundation, but this concealer failed to impress me. Read on to know more details about it:

My Experience with Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer:

Packaging: This concealer comes in a see-through tube with a thinner than usual doe-foot applicator.

Texture and Blendability: The consistency on this concealer is creamy yet thin. I had a bit of difficultly blending this concealer. Firstly, it does not blend well with a brush or your fingers. For some reason, that only pulls the products away from the skin instead of depositing it, leaving you with a streaky patchy application. It performs somewhat better blended with a Beauty Blender, but even then I feel the Beauty Blender tends to sheer out the product even more. I also feel like it sits on the skin instead of meshing with it which is surprising for such a thin consistency concealer.

Coverage: I am not happy with the coverage of this concealer. It has light –medium coverage, but is prone to sheering out the more you blend. I have quite heavy dark circles and this does a poor job of concealing them to my satisfaction. Even with a layer of concealer, I feel like the darkness of my under eye peeks through it, especially towards the inner corner. You might enjoy this kind of light coverage if you are already blessed with little to no dark circles and need something light for day-to-day use and not really looking at this as “please help me hide the fact that I didn’t sleep 8 hours last night” kind of concealer. For the rest of us, you might be able to make it sort of work if you layer a peachy corrector underneath.

Finish: This concealer leaves a radiant- semi satin finish on the skin. I like my under eyes to be matte so as to not highlight my problematic dark circles hence I am not a fan of the finish either. Granted, I can set this with a translucent powder to make it matte, which I will do regardless.

Shade: I have the shade “Light-Medium,” which is a good match for me but it runs way too yellow for my liking. If it were a bit peach, it would help combat the bluish-purple under eye hue situation better.

Look on skin: Another huge problem I incurred with this concealer is that it does not pair well with powder except that it makes it crusty. It especially does not take well to “baking.” I have tried this with variety of different powders and every time it has created a funny, dry, cracked-looking crust under my eyes. I thought my under eyes were going through a dry phase (which is weird because my under eyes are usually the oiliest and shiniest part of my face), but when I rotated in my other HG concealers between trying this out, they all came out looking fabulous as always, so the problem was definitely this concealer.

I find it works best with a very light dusting of powder instead, something like Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Powder or Giorgio Armani luminous silk powder works best with this.

Staying Power: This concealer creases like crazy on me. It starts creasing right after I blend it and before I can reach for my powder. I don’t have that many fine lines (I am in my late 20s). It has poor staying power. I find it starts to look faded by 5-6 hours into wear.

Fragrance: It has a faint light coconut scent which I like. It fades soon after application.

Overall, this is probably the most disappointing concealer I have used only because I had I high hopes from it. I had loved the Born This Way foundation, but I couldn’t say the same for this concealer. I advice you to stay away from this and instead grab something like the Tarte shape tape which is also a few $dollars cheaper and much much more superior in performance.
