Urban Decay Bittersweet Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush Review

Hello everyone!

Urban Decay recently came out with Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blushes which consists of a vast array of shades from the regular pinks and reds to neutrals along with some unconventional colors like the one I bring for you all today. I have already reviewed the shade Rapture here. For my first purchase, I got a wearable color mainly because I wanted to test out how the blush performed in itself. After being truly satisfied with the performance of the blush, I decided to go for the shade ‘Bittersweet’ on which I had my heart set on from the very first moment I saw it.

My Experience with Urban Decay Bittersweet Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush:

I applaud Urban Decay for being gutsy enough to come out with a bright purple blush and second, I wanted to test it out because I was curious if a color like this could indeed be wearable. Being the makeup collector that I am, if I see something I know I don’t have the likes of in my collection, I have to have it and this blush shade was definitely that!

Packaging:
Grunge yet gorgeous, which is the signature style of packaging that Urban Decay is so well known for. The compact case is incredibly sleek and has a thatched design on the lid through which hint of the blush shade inside is visible. The color of the blush is clearly marked through a sticker at the bottom of the compact. I do miss having a mirror in this compact, but since the design of the lid doesn’t really allow for that, I will let it pass. There is no applicator provided and the case does attract fingerprints.

Texture:
There blushes are very smooth and finely milled and packed firmly into the pan. They do kick up some powder when you dip your brush in. It is very easy to pick up enough product onto any kind of brush whether it be dense or wispy like my Wayne Goss Brush 14.

Pigmentation & Shade:
The pigmentation is wonderful. The color does show up with a good pigmentation from the first swipe, but the intensity is easily buildable. Hence, you need not be afraid of going overboard with this blush as the intensity can be easily controlled. It does not apply chalky or too powdery , instead goes on smooth and streak free. It does not cling onto the dry patches of the skin nor accentuate pores.

The shade Bittersweet is a bright purple. The finish is matte and free of any kind of shimmer, but does not look flat on the skin as it imparts a very subtle satiny sheen. The shade is best applied sheer. I was very sceptical about the wearability of this shade, but I find no issue carrying off a color like this. It gives a unique, beautiful plum color to the cheeks which in no way makes it look like you have a bruise.

This blush will work best and look most flattering if you wear it with purple accents either in your outfit or in you makeup in form of lipstick. This shade will be most easy to work with for light-medium to deep skin tone. If you very fair or pale, I would advise against this particular shade.

Staying Power:
This blush is true to its claim. It stays on my skin for a good 7-8 hours with very minimal fading.

Overall, a fantastic product and if you are a collector of unique makeup items which are not easily duped, this shade is a must have! I have not seen the likes of this shade in a blush form in any other brand yet. I will most definitely recommend this.
