Product Description (from the official website):
A fragrance for the true Versace woman. She’s effortlessly sexy, confident, and loves fashion, sumptuousness, and eccentricity. The fragrance is a magical perfume, sheer and sensual at the same time. A floral-oriental scent, it’s absolutely feminine, gentle, and leaves a lasting impression.

Notes:
Gardenia, Amber.
Style:
Magical. Sheer. Sensual.

According to Donatella Versace, Crystal Noir is a rare essence, sensual and delicate. The central note of the composition is mysterious gardenia, fresh, sensual, luminous and creamy, reproduced by ‘headspace’ technology,. Amber and musk in the base make the scent dark and mysterious, very sensual and distinct. The fragrance was created by An-toine Lie in 2004.
Price:
INR 6150 for 100 ml ($94).

My Experience with Versace Crystal Noir Eau de Toilette Spray:

This fragrance was created by Antoine Lie in 2004 and is still around – that itself is remarkable. You may wonder what’s great about a perfume being around after a decade? It is just plain math. Any Company keeps coming up with new products to entice the customer to keep buying – just like MAC keeps coming up with LE collections. Brands keep coming up with new lines of lipsticks, new eyeshadow palettes, new perfumes, etc. It is to ensure you keep buying and unless the existing product is selling well, there is literally no point to keep manufacturing it. Got it?

Packaging:  The perfume was curated by Donatello Versace, which is evident from the humungous bulbous cut diamond cap which has the Versace logo on it. There is little to no aesthetics to it! The bottle itself is a transparent deep plummy purple shade, which seems to be in lone with he fragrance name – Crystal Noir.

Fragrance: Coming back to the perfume, this one is a definite acquired taste – it doesn’t look like a crowd pleaser and yet, its been around! The perfume is warm, sensual, mysterious, almost unisex – definitely an evening perfume. This one makes me envisage walk on the beach with a special someone – once the sun has already set…I’m thinking Bali! Anyways, coming back to the reality and my crowded coffee table, the fragrance opens to a loud floral bouquet with hints of citrus which dies down fairly quickly and the perfume starts developing its deep, earthy, musky, amber notes. The initial floral notes are not the usual – jasmine/rose types. Instead, they are darker scents. The perfumes goes through layers of changes. While the bouquet keeps getter lower in intensity, the perfume itself keeps getting more mysterious – just like a perfect novel. At the heart of the fragrance are the deep musky amber notes – which are so pronounced that they will definitely not be for everyone. There is also a hint of coconut in the mix. I mention this seperately becausd for everyone around the world, it is an exotic fragrance. However, for us Indians, the fragrance of coconut is probably reminiscent of school days – sitting with our mom getting our head massage done! Don’t worry, the coconut fragrance isn’t a pronounced one, but just to let you know that it is there in the mix somewhere.

The amber and musky tones of this perfume at points remind me of Bvlgari’s Perfume Black, but thankfully, this has a mix of the florals to make the perfume more palatable and exotic. Again, a perfume you must really try before you spend on it.

It does have a decent silage, though the initial exuberant bouquet settles down fairly quickly. It gives about 6 hours of wear time.

Pros of Versace Crystal Noir Eau de Toilette Spray:

  • An exotic, extremely unique perfume.
  • Decent silage.
  • Despite the initial floral – almost citrus notes, the heart and base of the perfume are quite musky with amber tones and a hint of coconut.
  • Distinctly an evening perfume or something for the dark night ahead.

Cons of Versace Crystal Noir Eau de Toilette Spray:

  • Perfumes are anyway subjective in taste. However, the deep musky amber notes of this one which may work very well for a man, may not be upto the taste of many females.
  • Packaging isn’t too travel friendly.

IMBB Rating:
4/5
This is my one and only purchase from Versace, so I don’t really have much to talk about the brand as such. In terms of the perfume, again, I would say, try before you buy because the heart notes have this moody and mysterious tone to them which may not be for the masses, but if you do like that kind of fragrance, then you will definitely want to try this because it really is a quite interesting and unique blend.
