vicco turmeric skin cream review

Figure 1: One tube down already, purchased new one day before.

Remember the age old jingle? Vicco turmeric, nahi cosmetic… Well, the jingle sums up the benefits of this product wonderfully. I purchased it recently about a month back and it is my current skin cream, which has replaced a 2000 bucks dermalogica tinted moisturizer.

About me – oily, sensitive skinned damsel, in distress because of a breakout prone skin and enlarged pores. Read on about how this product turns me into Cinderella.

What the website says about Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream: VICCO has combined the goodness of Turmeric which is said to prevent the penetration of ultra violet rays of the sun into the skin and thus maintains the original color of the pigment of the skin, with the richness of pure Sandalwood Oil which is supposed to be the most cooling element in Vicco Turmeric Cream. The production process is described on the site! What amazing confidence in the product by the makers.
Ingredients: Turmeric and Sandalwood oil

vicco turmeric skin cream review

My experience with Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream:

I use it after I wash my face. I was using it twice a day, but since my skin has become better, I have been alternatively using this and Lacto Calamine. It was a goldmine for 125INR. The quantity is huge as you can see. Texture is that of a thick cold cream but is not heavy at all on the face.

The first thing I noticed after using this product is that it gives a nice matte finish that only makes your skin look softer as the day progresses. Next, I noticed that the pigmentation is reduced considerably. My skin feels and looks softer and fairer with an even skin tone. I noticed it has made my face and neck of the same color, earlier I had a much darker neck than face. It discourages pimples and fades away scars too. There is reduction in blackheads as well.

I tried it on emerging pimple, but it kind of stung just a week bit so I replaced it with lacto calamine for spot treatment. Also, I noticed its effectiveness has decreased just a little bit since I have been using it for over a month now. I guess my skin has got too used to it and its time to switch things up a bit.

Packaging and fragrance:

Packaging is very convenient. It’s a simple tube. The color is yellowish and if you use it in combination with haldi-besan, it may stain your face a bit. So do that at night if you really want to. Fragrance is very nice and is a blend of turmeric and sandalwood. Quite strong though. If I walk into a room wearing it, my parents say what are you wearing? 😀

Pros of Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream:

1. Very effective for pimples, blemishes and inflammation
2. Reduces scars and pigmentation. The only product that works on scars!
3. Turmeric is supposed to be good to remove facial hair, so I believe with regular use, one may experience a reduction in facial hair
4. Inexpensive
5. Easily available at your local kirana store
6. Age old product, being used for over a 100 years.
7. Ensures soft and fair skin

Cons of Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream:

1. May stain very fair faces
2. No spf, if that’s a consideration for you
3. Per the law of diminishing marginal utility, effectiveness has decreased a bit in the second month of continued usage. Will it continue to dip? I really hope not.

Would I recommend it? Totally

Would I purchase it again? Yup!

  1. it never suits me…. i never had pimple, but when i tried this cream its got me rashes and pimples too… not for me

    1. You may try the WSO version of Vicco Turmeric. I experienced breakouts too when i started using the standard Vicco Turmeric. However, i found out that sandalwood oil is a comedogenic agent and may break your skin out if your skin is oily. The WSO version (Without Sandalwood Oil = WSO) packs all the benefits of turmeric and other ingredients without making your skin react adversely to sandalwood oil.

Don’t get me wrong – sandalwood oil is a potent skin vitalizer but it may not be suited to oily and acne prone skin.

  2. I love Vicco Turmeric cream :hihi:
I have been using it for more than 15 years now….and its a marvel…
Any skin problem and it helps…it really helps..
And with time, its efficiency or potency hasnt reduced…it works well for me now just as it used to a decade back.
So here are :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: for this wonderful cream

  3. I love Vicco Turmeric! It’s the mother of all skin creams and has been a panacea for all kinds of usual skin problems for me – acne as well as its scars, blackheads, whiteheads, even tanning sometimes. I’ve been using it for 3 years now and I agree that its benefits seem to decrease with continued usage but I think that may also be because your skin texture improves. Funnily enough, I was recommended Vicco by a guy. :stars: In his words, it’s a “miracle cream and if you apply it at night, you wake up with a glowing face.” Hahahaha. :rotfl:

    1. Strange that both you and Shivani mention that its benefits have decreased with continued usage… For me it works wonderful even now…Even a little zit or breakout is taken care of by this cream…

      1. Actually, I did not mean that it ceases to be effective on zits or breakouts. It is indeed very good in such cases. I meant that if you apply it every day, little by little, the dramatic glow effect is lessened. That’s because your skin has already become so good that there’s nothing dramatic about having a perpetually glowing skin. The oh-my-god factor is gone after a while once you get used to it. :silly:

  4. Excellent post Shivani….
And here I was wondering where is the review of the mother of all Indian creams…. This is my knight in shining armor ! Always rescues me from small skin troubles. Excellent excellent cream!

  5. I have tried this once before. Used it for a week, and threw the rest of it away. Why?
The atrocious smell!!! It smells so bad, I would never go back to buying this product again. And it didn’t work wonders anyway.
Have they changed its fragrance or something? ?:)

  6. i love ths product …………during my pregnancy i had pigmentation .. :waaa:
my friend suggested me ths product and OMG with the usage of one tube my pigmentation gone :yahoo:
    i am loving it :yahoo:

    1. my mom uses this and this only and nothing else he whole life. and i havn’t seen a single pimple or scar or any problem on her face ever, it keeps her skin sooo even tonned..
i have been using this for sometime now. i have oily skin, ya it make me sweat but can do with tha if it gives me even tonned and healthy skin.
(plus my mom always discourage me from using any cosmetic on my face except this…… ma ka pyaar)

  7. “Vicco Turmeric Ayurvedic Creeam!~~~”
    😀 😀 😀 😀
That jingle has been stuck in my head ever since I saw the ad. 😛
I will definitely try it out sometime soon!!!

  8. it doesnt suit my dry sking…………..and also i dont like fragrance…….but i think is gr8 product for oily skin people :waytogo: :waytogo:

  9. I have been using this cream on and off since more than 7 years now and must say its fabulous cream for oily skinner gals as it seriously gives such a matt finish that sometimes I feel my skin has gone dry..I agree the smell can be little too much for some but it never really bothered me..I used use this everyday when was in college and sometimes it used to leave yellowish cast as if I have applied turmeric on my face..i left using it as no spf but def one of the best creams ever! My best friend uses this cream right from her childhood and her skin is flawless! Def  for this one!

  10. I tried this cream when i was in college. I found it aggravated the oiliness on my face. Although it did help in restoring the original skin colour. But thats about it. I think its an effective and inexpensive way to remove the tan from your arms/legs.

  11. I love this cream and have used it for years, still have it .. but it makes me sweet like anything .. so now I have bought an alternative but I still apply it sometimes 🙂

  12. great post shivani… well i used this cream occasionally during my teens n there is a noticable change O:) but as i didnt like the smell so discontinued using it… par this article made run to the kirana store to buy this once again… :woot:

  13. i know a relative who is more than 65 and swears by this 🙂 but i start sweating immediately and yeah they can tone down the smell a bit 😐

  14. Glad this works for you Shivani!! :))
I used this….but I found the smell absolutely disgusting. It also left a weird whitish cast on my face and irritated my skin… 🙁 so I used it for my feet instead… :haanji:

  15. this is like an all purpose cream. i have an oily skin and it makes my skin look like a frying pan. but i use this on areas like neck , elbow, feet , knees, where pigmentation is a problem. it does help in evening out the tone. haldi bleaches the hair to a golden yellow tinge, so it may make the hair on your face less visible, but i dont think it will bring about any hair reduction. besan or any powdered dal if used as a scrub works because it scrubs your hair out, literally like an epilator.

  16. I never tried it, the review really tempted me!! 😀 😀 I’m gonna buy this as soon as possible!!

  17. i recently got the vicci toothpaste n i ws surprised to actually like it.. :waytogo: aftr reading this i really want to gt this cream… :thanks: fr d review

  18. Hi Ladies,
I have very sensitive skin and even the costlier products, (including Clinique moisturizer) did not work for me. Lacto calamine would dry my skin out and the other moisturizers would leave me with terrible breakouts. About 3 years ago my dermatologist suggested I use this and i haven’t looked at another product since then 🙂 I tried using Olay for a couple of days but I started breaking out and and I promptly switched back to Vicco! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this!
Just make sure you are not allergic to turmeric or sandalwood. If you are, this product may not be for you.

  19. Thanks! it seems we both were born with the same skin type! worked the same way for me! a damsel in distress becomes a darling dame! 😀 Thanks for the review! helped me a lot!

  20. It is truly a magic potion. Not just for pimples, but skin rashes also and works well for cuts and other skin problems as well. The only cons I feel is that it makes my face look so white. So usually I apply it at night before going to bead and overnight it reduces the pimples..yes, that’s true!! I have been using this for quite some time now and will continue to do so! 🙂 🙂

  21. I used the WSO variant of vicco n it was the only thing that actually worked for me. This one didnt suit my skin (oily/sensitive/acne-prone). I tried WSO n within a month the scars faded..my skin has actually become better n scars are barely visible. Plus it didnt break out my skin.

  22. I’ve been using this cream fot one year.it gave me a faur tone to my skin but it never works on the black marks on my face then also i’m using this

  23. I am using this cream from last one week and its awesome. I hav combination skin with sensitiveness nd White heads too.but it wonderfully worked on dat within a week.i can feel its effectiveness on my skin.nd m happy wid it.i m using the wso version.never tried the original one.hope i willnt need dat..i just luv this one ….
