Vichy Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream Review

“Beauty is truth’s smile when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Hi Ladies,

Let me start by telling you about my skin (face). I have combination skin and it’s normal for us people to have the T-zone oily and the rest dry/normal. If I consider my T-zone, then typically the forehead, the nose till the chin should be the oily parts and the rest should be dry or normal. However, in my case, the glabella is oily (rest of my forehead isn’t so) and so is my nose except the outer corners of my nose which is dry. My chin area gets super dry especially in winters and so does the outer corners of my lips. So basically, I can’t pin point an exact oily T-zone but you get the drift…it’s a combo of both oily, normal and patches of dryness (which appear mostly in the dry months). Having established that, I do get breakouts every now and then and mostly they are small pinhead-sized breakouts which mostly vanish in a week or so. Other than that, I do get the occasional large and quite painful pimple either at the sides of my nose or just below my lower lip, but that’s rare. I also have open pores on the apples of my cheeks.

In terms of a basic and suitable face wash, I have been using the Avene Cleanance Soap-Free Gel Cleanser for over 3 years as suggested by my dermatologist, and it was suiting me fine. However, since I was religiously stuck to it for such a long time, I wanted to change my face wash as was looking for something with the much-talked about salicylic acid.  Hence I found Normaderm’s Anti-imperfection deep cleansing foaming cream at my local drugstore. I was really happy with the price as I was used to paying around 1900 + INR for my previous one.

As we know, Salicylic acid (SA) is a phenolic phytohormone and is found in plants and is commonly used in products for beating acne and other such impurities. So, I decided to give this a try and have been using it since October last year, so it’s been roughly 2-and-a-half months and the tube is still going. Not bad!

Price:

590 INR for 125 ml.

My Experience with Vichy Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream:

As I have oily patches, open pores and the occasional blemishes that pop up, I was very comfortable using a gel-formulated face wash earlier. I had tried some cream-based ones in the past and they never suited me. I always felt that cream-based ones didn’t quite reduce the oil on my face. This particular face wash comes in a foaming cream formula and to my surprise, only a pea-drop size is required and lathers up quite well. It comes in the form of a squeeze tube which is quite convenient. I lather a teeny weeny drop between my palms and gently massage onto my skin. Initially, I would use a generous dollop as I was apprehensive in how well it would lather, but this only requires a very small amount and does the trick. Yup believe me! Washing off is easy too as comes off quick. As a rule, I never rub a towel onto my face, just simply pat dry.

In the months of October and November, this wasn’t drying me out as it used to leave my skin feeling squeaky clean and tender, but December onward, my skin feels a bit taut and the non-oily parts quite dry, so I have to immediately apply some face cream; maybe that’s the salicylic acid as I have never faced this before. It claims to tighten pores, but in all honesty, I haven’t come across any product that does that. Time shall tell but I’m not banking upon it. I do like the creamy texture for a change and it barely has any smell. I like the fact that it has been tested on Asian imperfection-prone skin and is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic which means that it does not cause blackheads by blocking the pores of the skin.

It also contains glycerin which is good for nourishing skin and anti-ageing and hence my skin feels fresh and soft on touch after using this and looks clearer for sure. I’m not sure about completely eliminating impurities as since last October, I have had some break outs and two large painful red pimples/boils on my face, but I can’t directly hold this face wash responsible as my skin needs cleansing at least twice a day and I do get lazy and just wash it once at times. The winter months are dry and harsh and full of pollution, so now, I have started washing my face twice or even thrice daily followed by toning with rose water or ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) and then moisturizing.

Pros of Vichy Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream:

  • Tube packaging is easy to use.
  • Only a pea-sized drop is required for one wash, so the tube lasts long.
  • Does not smell.
  • Controls oil but not all day.
  • Leaves skin clean, clear and supple.
  • Removes grime and washes off makeup too.
  • Contains salicylic acid which is good for anti-acne/blemish.
  • Contains glycerin leaving skin feeling soft and hydrated.
  • Value for money.

Cons of Vichy Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream:

  • Can cause dry skin to feel stretched, especially in the winter months.
  • Haven’t seen that it tightens pores.

Would I Repurchase Vichy Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream?

Due to the fact that this is a moderately priced overall decent face wash for oily to combination skin, I would buy this again but probably wouldn’t use this in winters as it dries out certain areas of my face.

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5

Conclusion:

It’s definitely a good cream-based face wash for acne-prone/oily skin and does make the skin look clear and fresh. However, my previously used Avene Clearnance is still a strong contender for blemish-prone oily skin and I will always prefer gel based ones over cream based ones but that’s just me.

Au revoir!

    1. I prefer gel ones as opposed to cream based ones and this is a cream based one (not foam based) as foam based one come out of the bottle in a foamy consistency. This is creamy but lathers quite well, which seems fine for my combo skin so far…welcome and hope it helps Jasmine!
