Hey there!

Like all kids, my love for lip balms and glosses began eons back. I loved looking through the hypermarket aisles that stock lip balms, finding a cute one and then forcing dad to buy it for me. Studiously ignoring his vehement protests that I probably own enough lip balms to be the lip care specialist for a Third World country 😛  Thanks to my urge to boost the economy by procuring a huge collection of cosmetic products 😉 , I can now boast of a pretty big lip balm collection too. The product I am now going to review is something I found on one such shopping trip, and due to its inexpensiveness, I didn’t hesitate to snap it up.

30 INR for 4.5 grams.

Product Description:

Pretty lips, cherry smile, smooth skin come with this Melon Lip Shield. Almond oil, melon, Vitamin E combined with SPF 15 to nourish your lips and protect them from harmful sun rays.

Packaging:

It comes in the regular screw up-down packaging that most lip balms come in. It works perfectly and is sturdy. While the packaging is not the most attractive on the planet, it is travel friendly and can easily be slipped in anywhere without any risk of spillage.

My Take on VLCC Lip Shield in Melon:

VLCC – Vandana Luthra Curls and Curves, (isn’t that cutest name ever?) is a well known company as far as weight loss is concerned but the products that I have purchased always seemed like a bit of a miss, this lip balm is no different. At 30 bucks a pop, even if it doesn’t work for you, it isn’t a huge loss, but nonetheless, no one wants to waste their money even if it’s a small amount like this.

The packaging isn’t something you can complain about, it is utilitarian even if it seems a tad too staid. Information like Manufacturing Date, Quantity and the like are all provided on the packaging, but the glaring flaw here is that they only provide a very vague active ingredient list in their claims that immediately raises my hackles. When a company doesn’t provide its complete ingredient list, it’s pretty obvious that they have something to hide. I am guessing that it’s the presence of a ton of chemicals, but I can only guess.

The product smells like pumpkin or melon which is a hit, seeing as it’s supposed to do so, but the formula itself is a little too waxy. It’s pretty okay as an overnight lip balm as it just stays on top of your lips in a thick layer till you smudge it or eat it (in my case!), but seeing as it has SPF 15 which is a huge plus, that’s not its intended purpose. Nevertheless, one may find it hard to use as a lip moisturiser on the go, due to its waxy uncomfortable texture.

Due to its waxy texture, I have taken to use this product on my elbow, knees and ankles before sleeping and have seen noticeable softening. So, this product can be pretty versatile, aside from its primary purpose.

Pros of VLCC Lip Shield in Melon:

• You can control the product dispensed easily.
• Inexpensive.
• Versatile.
• Presence of SPF 15.

Cons of VLCC Lip Shield in Melon:

• Periodic reapplication is required.
• Not very attractive packaging.
• Waxy textured product.
• Smell isn’t reminiscent of melon but some chemicals.
• No complete ingredient list.

Will I Repurchase VLCC Lip Shield in Melon?

Nah! I will look for something better.
