Wayne Goss Brush 16 Review

Hello gorgeous gals,

Wish you all a very Happy New Year 2017! I’m back after a short break and wanted to resume my reviews exactly where I left off – with the Wayne Goss brushes! My last review was on Wayne Goss Brush #08. Today’s review is on Wayne Goss brush #16, which is part of the eye brush collection.  This brush is available as an individual, as well as part of the eye collection set. However, do note, there is no price advantage in buying a set. The price of the set is exactly the same as the sum of prices of the individual brushes. So, you can go ahead and pick whichever brush you want. I did just that, I picked up a couple of brushes each time and built a small collection of the Wayne Goss brushes over the last one year. I will try to review these first – before I pick up the more colourful products in my kit 🙂

My Experience with Wayne Goss Brush 16:

The Wayne Goss brushes are handcrafted in Japan – rumour mills believe them to be crafted by Hakuhodo factory, but there is no confirmation on that.

The brushes are well crafted, well balanced with sleek black handles. The point to note is that Wayne Goss brushes are smaller in length than more regular brushes – say MAC, Sigma, etc., which works great for people like me who can barely see where they are applying the eyeshadow and go pretty much inside the mirror to get a better look and don’t care for long handle of the brushes standing in the way. However, if you are a MUA or someone who likes to hold the brush from a distant length for a more diffused look, just head’s up.

As I have mentioned in my previous review of brush #08, I wanted to try the Wayne Goss brush range and decided to pick up a couple of them. This brush is probably the most unique “eye” brush you will come across. I am not a brush connoisseur, but I am a brush hoarder, and I have never come across this shape of eye brush. Such shapes are more prevalent in Japanese brushes, which I haven’t mustered the courage to buy yet. So, even though I had checked online before I bought the brush, I was totally taken aback when I first saw the brush up close. It is a fairly thick, wide, dome shaped, stubby brush. I didn’t know what to do with it.

For almost 2 weeks, I didn’t even try it, I didn’t know how this wide, thick, densely packed brush could be used for the eye. So, without even trying, I tried to find alternate use for it – I used it to set my under-eye concealer, do spot highlighting, etc. It worked fine for both the jobs, but I still wanted to use it for its intended use – eye look!!

So, once I was attempting a smokey look and pretty much all my eye brushes were dirty waiting to be washed, and I pulled this one out and said – here goes! I used this to blend the shadow. I was literally blown away, I do not say this lightly. I hardly had to make any effort and the brush did everything. A couple of strokes and it looked as if I had spent hours blending it out. I was super intrigued! Ever since that day, this has become an integral part of my eye makeup routine. Not only does it work excellently to blend the shades together, it also diffuses the shade in the crease to create the most subtle transition.

The densely packed, ultra soft bristles do all the work for you and in no time, you get the most perfect smokey eye or diffused crease! It’s like magic! You can also use it to flick the eyeshadow out from your outer V to create a more diffused V, which would make your eyes look bigger.

The best part is of course how soft it is! You do not feel the movement of individual bristles. You just feel the softness of the brush like cashmere against your delicate eye area.

You could use this brush to deposit colour onto the eye area, but that wouldn’t be using it to its best potential. Also, considering the size of it, do not expect it to help you do intricate work. It is meant for blending and diffusing and it does that phenomenally.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Wayne Goss Brush 16:

  • Extremely soft and well crafted.
  • Light but well-balanced handle.
  • Short length of handle – allows you to go close to the mirror while using it.
  • Works excellently for blending and diffusing the colour in the area.
  • Perfect for creating a smokey eye look.
  • Bristles are extremely soft.
  • Does not shed.
  • Being natural bristled, excellent with picking up the product.
  • Made in Japan.
  • Cruelty free.
  • Can multi-task – despite the unusual shape.

Cons of Wayne Goss Brush 16:

  • Nothing.

IMBB Rating:
5/5

I may sound extremely repetitive, but I do love this brush! Again, this has a very unique shape and I doubt that one would have something like this already in their kitty, except of course you are a brush connoisseur. This brush, and the others, I will be reviewing next, weren’t part of the original eye collection. The brushes 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 were launched subsequently and I feel, I have more variety in shape.

The bottom line is, who needs this brush – Everyone who does eye makeup! Period!

No, I’m not saying this just for the heck of it. I totally mean it. This brush can help you do 10 minutes of blending in one minute. Literally! And for people who know how painful blending can be, yu get my point. Also, the way this diffuses the crease colour and transitions it into the brow bone in just a couple of strokes is actually phenomenal. And this has been my learning about eye makeup – even before I found this brush – that the transition can make or break a look. I see my pics of EOTD from a year back when I didn’t even know what transition shade was – let alone its importance – I actually cringe! So, if you love eye makeup and enjoy smokey looks, this brush is another must have from the Wayne Goss collection.
