Wayne Goss Brush 20 Review

Hello gorgeous gals,

This would probably be my last review on a Wayne Goss brush for some time. I wish I could pick up the whole collection but there is that little thing called a wallet! Anyway! I have reviewed brushes #08, #16, #17, #19 and shared some thoughts about brushes in general and some quick info on Wayne Goss. Do check those reviews out. This review is about the brush #20, another eye brush. Let’s find out more about it.

Price: US$ 30
Product Description:
Brush 20 is designed with a tapered end for smudging. It is also great for defining anything from a cut crease to a modern soft smokey eye.
Handcrafted in Japan. Cruelty-free.

My Experience with Wayne Goss Brush 20:

A quick brief on Wayne Goss and his brushes:
Wayne Goss is a UK based makeup artist who has made his presence felt on YouTube since ages. He currently has 2 channels running on YouTube. He launched his brush line a couple of years ago. The brushes are handcrafted in Japan and are exceptionally soft.

This eye brush is again from the newer eye collection for Wayne. All the brushes in this collection have goat hairs with the exception of this one. Brush #20 is a mix of squirrel and goat hairs, which is perfect for this brush. Squirrel hairs give this brush ultra softness while the goat hairs give it the ability to hold its shape and not splay too much.

This brush is the quintessential pencil brush; a must-have for smudging the liner/kohl. My first smudging brush was the MAC 219, of which I had heard raving reviews. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t work with it. I found the brush way too scratchy which could well be an issue with my technique itself, maybe I was using too much pressure. Or it could just be that I got a lousy piece. So, my search for a good smudger continued. I finally settled on a Bobbi Brown Pencil Brush and the iconic NARS Smudger (which I absolutely adore).

Both these brushes work well. But when you are upping the game with new eye brushes, I had to pick up a smudger! Personally, I used to prefer the shape of a NARS smudger to a pencil brush even though a pencil brush is more versatile. I think it had more to do with the quality of the brush itself because post getting this one, I haven’t even used the NARS smudger for a while now!

This is again one of the softest brushes to touch my eye area. Being natural hair, it picks the product well and deposits it onto the desired area. As it is a tapered pencil brush it allows precision and controlled application. So, you can use it to deposit the colour onto your lower lash line or to deepen the outer V. You can also use it to smudge the eyeliner/kohl. Being ultra soft, it works well without scratching the sensitive eye area. Also, thanks to the goat hair in it, the brush holds its shape and does not splay out with little pressure. So, when you are smudging, the application remains within a defined space and you don’t end up with panda eyes!

The brush looks luxurious with its sleek black handles. It is well balanced. However, do remember that Wayne’s brushes are shorter in length than the regular brushes in the market, like from MAC and Sigma brushes.

To sum this up for you –

Pros of Wayne Goss Brush 20:

• Extremely soft and well crafted
• Light but well-balanced handle
• Short length of the handle allows you to go close to the mirror
• Works excellently for smudging or for depositing pigment
• Bristles are extremely soft
• Does not shed
• Being natural bristled, excellent with picking up the product
• Made in Japan
• Cruelty free

Cons of Wayne Goss Brush 20:

• Nothing

IMBB Rating: 5/5

I really enjoy using the brush and would definitely recommend it. Is it a must-have? While the shape is not unique and you can easily get similarly shaped brushes in the market, this is a shape we actually use pretty much on a daily basis, at least every day that you use eyeshadow. Keeping that in mind, I feel it’s worth the investment. And, given that the price of this is not so different from say a MAC 219, I would recommend this over the MAC one any day!
