What Are BB, CC and DD Creams?

Hi ladies,
BB creams took the cosmetic industry by storm. Then came our very own CC creams which were a step further than their predecessors. And now as if the alphabets weren’t enough, we are now hearing of DD creams too. In today’s post, let’s find out about all the 3 creams and which one is better?

What are BB, CC and DD creams

BB Creams:

1. It is short for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm. BB creams were first to hit the market and were popularised by South Korean actresses.
2. BB creams are supposed to be lighter than foundation but heavier than moisturisers.
3. BB creams provide light to medium coverage, smooth the skin, conceal the redness of the face, have SPF and also give the skin a dewy look.
4. BB creams can also be used as a primer, foundation, or your moisturizer.
5. If you want to hide a lot of imperfections of the face, then this is not the right alphabet cream for you.
6. If I talk about the cons then it may be the limitations of the shades available. Only a pea sized amount is needed of the BB creams, so you cannot rely on them completely to prevent the skin from sun rays.

Popular Options Available in the Market:

2. Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-In-One BB Cream
3. Maybelline BB Cream

CC Creams:

1. CC creams are termed as Colour Correcting or Complexion Correcting creams. They are the more refined version of BB creams.
2. They are ideal for those with issues like redness, dullness, pimple marks, dark spots, minor scars and imperfections on the face.
3. CC creams have higher colour content so they can be your great alternative to regular foundations. They also have higher SPF content in them.
4. These definitely work better than a BB cream in keeping the skin looking healthy, luminous and by providing more coverage.
5. Their formulation is lighter than BB creams so they feel really light on the skin compared to a foundation or a BB cream.
6. Not all CC creams provide good coverage so you have to check out various creams before settling for one cream that will suit you well.

DD creams:

1. It stands for Daily Defense or Dynamic Do-all cream. These are a hybrid of BB and CC creams but their main focus is on anti-aging.
2. DD creams work to diminish wrinkles and fine lines and also balance skin tone and protect the most sensitive areas of your skin.
3. This cream has thick texture; because of this, it provides better coverage and is also more suited for slightly matured skin.
4. As they are heavy in texture, they were primarily meant to be used as a hand and foot cream. But as they work really well on matured skin, now we can get variants especially made for the face.
5. DD creams are multipurpose products that eliminate the need to apply anti-ageing cream, sunscreen and foundation.
6. These are not yet available in India, but in few months time we will be able to get them here.

  1. I have never tried DD creams, and I guess I need not yet. I do have tried BB and CC creams and I must say that I anyday prefer BB creams cos I feel they give more dewy look which looks natural. My favorite one is Colorbar BB cream. Which one is yours Vandana? 🙂
