Neha Sharma Asks:

Hey Angels,

I am a big big fan of IMBB.  I am addicted to IMBB.  Actually, today I want your help.  My sister is getting married in February 2013, and being her sister, I also have to take care of myself on that day, but due to my exams, I was not able to give proper time to myself.  I am worried what to wear and how to reduce my weight.  Di wants me to wear saree, but I am afraid of my tummy.  I am not tall just 5 ft with wheatish complexion.  I want to know whether I should go for saree or not, which would be better lehnga, saree or 2 colored saree or a single color? Waiting for your replies, thanks in advance 🙂

  1. go for some traditional saree with traditional jewelleries on the day of marriage and a some gorgeous designer sarees and gorgeous jewelleries for the reception with lots of threads work. dont forget the finger ring. in sarees u better try dark colours like red, blue, green or deep pink. and u can even focus on your blouse… that’s the best thing u can do… go for a designer blouse and mix and match. and for makeup imbb is the last word there are awesum tutorials… start practicing dear.. and taking care of your skin and hair is the fast thing u should start with.

    1. Thnx di. . .i thnk tht i vl wear saree on d day of weddng n lehenga on reception. . . . .bt d problm is i dnt knw how to manage d chunri . . . .is thr ny tutorial 4 dis also. . . .

  2. Hi Neha!

I think a saree is a very forgiving garment. It usually suits all body types. I don’t wear it often, but have been on a shopping spree for my own wedding, so herez my gyaan. If you are afraid of showing your tummy go for fabrics like Georgette or chiffon. They drape well and make you look slimmer. Avoid Silk(will makeyou look heavier) or Net (will expose your waist and tummy).

You can try out sarees at the store and see what looks best on you. You might want to try a heavy blouse with a light saree, it is the latest trend and will draw all attention towards your upper body and face.

If you want to try something different, there are these gararas of sort in the market which is basically like an anarkali on top and lehenga in the bottom. I think they would be perfect for sister of the bride 🙂

I hope this helps. Enjoy your shopping and my best wishes to your sister the Bride 🙂

      1. Hi Neha,

Half sarees are very common in south india. its like a split up saree, where the skirt, blouse and pallu are separate. you can easily find images online and it looks very pretty. also its comfortable, if you are scared of managing a saree.
my opinion is that a very full length anarkali salwars may make you look shorter. so try the dress out before you decide.

  3. Wear some kinda designer saree with less work in georgette or chiffon (any synthetic kind rather than cotton mixed ones as they will show you plumpy).. Based on the work in saree, choose your jewellery.. If it is a saree with heavy work, then just go for a simple gold chain or necklace and if it is a simple saree, you can accessorize well with a broad and stylish neck piece 🙂 Hope it helps! Please donot try lehenga as it would show you still short 🙁 Im of your same height and i know the pain of being short 🙁 But always people tell that i appear tall when i wear a saree 😉 So it would definitely work that way for you too as well.. 🙂 Do post the pics on what you get for your sissy’s marriage.. Convey my regards to her as well 🙂

  4. hi,
i would suggest you to wear a a good quality georgette/ crape saree with banaras or silk patch work.

and a matching designer blouse for wedding.
    and an anarkalli for reception.
go for minimum makeup. heel sandals. properly trimmed hair.

which part of india wedding would be….

  5. hey neha do wear a saree my guess going by the photo is that a deep violet or burgundy shade saree with silver or antique gold work with make up to match will suit you best! and you should surely try anarkalis with heels they give that tall look! do let us know how the amrriage went!

  6. Sweety if you don’t want to look shorter, its not advisable to go for outfits in more than one colour. Dark colours tend to be slimming, so your best bet is a dark coloured saree in a single colour. Pay attention to accessories but let only one piece be the focus, for instance if you’re wearing a statement necklace, let the earrings be understated. Since you’re concerned about your height, its best to wear chandelier earrings and a light or no necklace as heavy necklaces tend to make the neck look short. Since you’d be doing a lot of walking or standing around, wear wedge heels, they are the most comfortable. But then again, its your sister’s wedding so you should probably wear whatever makes you feel gorgeous.
